Our sofa has died. Where shall we buy a new one from?

Our sofa has died. Absolute pile of crap it was, I couldn’t be more delighted to be getting rid of the bastard. Only 8 years old and a leg has broken, and the upholstery has a massive rip in the seat.

So we need a new one. Hurrah! Any recommendations of where to buy a sofa these days?

Our last one was from Heals: we will not be going back there.

100% agree. Our sofa looked good but turns out to be the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever bought it also looks saggy and old. We bought our smart sofa from Pinch…£££ but it’s gorgeous a piece to hand down. We use it too…dogs sit in it etc. i chose a hard wearing dark fabric

DD got one from John Lewis. It was used in her house share for 5 years and still looks like new.

I got one made bespoke by a local furniture maker. It was about the same price bracket as Darlings of Chelsea/Arlo&Jacob but about 10% cheaper. We’re in Essex.

I have good spending power, but very honestly if I were to buy a new sofa now, I would seriously scour facebook market place first. There are people on there getting rid of eg £6000 duresta suites because they’re moving and just need it gone and they can be an incredible bargain

Absolutely agree with looking at pre-owned. My pair of sofas weren’t old or worn, just a young professional couple each with a house were moving in together so one lot of furniture was surplus to their needs. Actually they’d listed the two sofas separately on eBay, auctions finishing about an hour apart. Someone else was bidding against me, but when I won the first one she pulled out and the vendor immediately messaged me to say if I’d like both (and could collect them together), they’d withdraw the second from eBay and I could have it for the same price! I borrowed a big van from work but there are plenty of “man and van” services who could have collected them otherwise.

We have 4 Tetrads, oldest of which are 31years old others 29, all still in very very good condition except one cushion which the material is splitting. Debating to get re covered or get new, think newer ones will not be made as well but would still recommend Tetrad.

Have had people out to look at re covering and was told not to get rid!

Looked at other offerings, the usual out of town shops and they all seemed to be quite poorly made.

If you want something that lasts buy a Tetrad. Mine will be 30 come December and still really comfortable with joints and springs in good condition etc. They’re not cheap but built to last and you can buy replacement covers if you get a loose covers style. We bought a Loaf (Pudding) one 4 years ago and whilst still in great condition it isn’t nearly as comfortable.

Our Tetrad was 20 years old,it was amazing. We only got rid of it as it needed new cushion covers and it would've cost a fortune.

OP I would look at IKEA and go for one with washable covers.
