Our sofa has died. Where shall we buy a new one from?

Our sofa has died. Absolute pile of crap it was, I couldn’t be more delighted to be getting rid of the bastard. Only 8 years old and a leg has broken, and the upholstery has a massive rip in the seat.

So we need a new one. Hurrah! Any recommendations of where to buy a sofa these days?

Our last one was from Heals: we will not be going back there.

Our Sofology ones have been great. 10 years of heavy use and still in good condition

Don't know if you're near Leeds but Redbrick Mill has lots you can try. One brand I found comfortable but had never heard of was Zofa. Stokers is also a good place to try out a lot.

For me, most sofas are simply not deep enough in the seat. If they're not at least about 58cm minimum, then I won't be able to sit comfortably on them.

We have 2 large sofas made by Duresta - they were ex display in a local independant shop we paid about £2500 for them both they should have been about £6000 they’re absolutely solid and we have had them about 8 years now! They’re like new.

Loaf

My DFS ones are ok still. 2.5 years on. Mostly protected by covers but feel pretty decent. I found some great ones in an outlet at Salford quays but DH wasn’t keen so we carried on looking. They’re French connection ones by DFS. Fingers crossed they stay decent until I’ve paid for them ! I’d go Ikea if choosing new now though my friend’s one was quite flat in the cushions. What ikea ones are you all using ?

I absolutely love my Loaf sofa but it wasn't cheap.

Some friends have got a Loaf sofa and the cushions are so floppy it would do my head in, especially the back ones.

Ikea. Reasonably priced and washable. My wool M&S sofa went into holes in the middle of the cushions after 5 years. Cost me a fortune.

I would have said Multiyork, but they're no longer in business sadly. John Lewis is the best we've had since. Bought a second-have Loaf sofa recently cut a snug and it's absolutely terrible quality, don't touch them. The frame is made of such thin wood.

We’ve had M&S ones for 12 years which are comfortable and still look good despite our puppy’s attempts to ruin them. We really want to change them now to update our room but as M&S no longer sell sofas we are nervous about where to shop. We’ve been pleased with Next in the past and not very happy with DFS.

We have the most beautiful sofa set from Sofology. A mix of co-ordinated material and leather. Reclining seats and head rests. Really modern design & super comfy. A year later and they look like new.

DFS, going strong after 12 years and with 2 kids. People always comment how comfortable it is.

My DFS sofas are still going strong after 8 years but we fancied a changed so are waiting for our new sofas from Poltrone Sofas (partnered with SCS). When we were browsing we found their sofas were sturdy and you can pick whatever fabric you like no limitations to certain styles. About £200 more than DFS for us but seemed much better quality

We have a GPlan vintage from John Lewis, about £2k, it seems very good. We also have a Next sofa which we bought from the clearance for about £450 which is also good.

DFS. Like new after about ten years

We are just getting rid of two Multiyork sofas after 25 years and replacing them with two from Ercol. If you are anywhere near Aylesbury, go to Lucas, their customer service has always been excellent.

If you’re in or around W Yorks try W&T Nettleton in Horbury for Ercol. Lovely big showroom of lovely furniture across many brands and superb customer service. They are 5 mins off the M1 at J40.

has anyone had a sofa from Nick scali? I have found some that I love but I don’t know anyone who has bought from them to ask for a review. Thanks

I loved Harvey's, we had sofas from there years ago, all our bedroom furniture came from there also. Sadly, they went into administration, probably about 5 - 8 years ago

Avoid Poltron esofa

We got ours from Sofology 10 years ago and they still look like new after two children and two dogs.
the recliners all still work and I will buy from them again when we need to replace them.

We have a Loaf sofa and it's shit. linen fabric ripped and stained. cushions come off and end up in a heap.... anyone over 60 can't get up from it...

We also have a Habitat one which has last years and still looks good.

Both in the same room so get same sofa use.

I know two people who have bought from DFS recently and the quality has been shocking. The second one the seams were split in some places on delivery.

We’re just waiting for our new sofa to be delivered and didn’t even bother to look at DFS.

I agree. Ours is nearly twenty years old and te fabric hasn't worn or faded, the cushions haven't needed to be refilled. Still looks fine.
