Whats the purpose of life, what is the purpose of MY life, not just life.

It just gets weirder lol.

You're not a tool, you were not invented, you were not designed for a purpose.

In the grand scheme of things any of us existing is highly improbable yet here we are. It's amazing. If you need meaning, make your own meaning.

If you think about it, there's an unbroken link between you and the very first single celled organism on earth. Every one of your ancestors made it through the trials of life.

Who are you to break the chain?

I have to have a baby because my parent did??

This is my belief.

so can you answer then? do you think people chose to be in a body that would experience abuse and harm then? because their soul decided they needed to learn a lesson?

No, happy for you to just answer the question, are you saying that kids who are beaten to death or women who are taped have chosen that before life, and if so do the perpetrators also choose it or are they compelled to to fulfil the other person's learning objectives? By that logic is punishment and sympathy necessary

Yes, in spirituality it is thought that the perpetrators and victims are usually part of the same soul family/group and agree to play these roles before incarnation in order to help their souls learn and grow. Remember, the soul only sees the singular so doesn’t see things in terms of good and bad (duality).
This is my belief after having a spiritual awakening. It is just like any belief. No one is forcing you to accept it.

Nonsense. People can quite naturally live past menopause. From an evolution point of view, after your useful reproduction years are behind you, you still have a role raising those kids and their kids

There's also evidence that prehistoric people cared for every member of the tribe.

Evidence of Care in Prehistory

  • Healing and Survival: Fossil records show that severely injured or disabled early humans survived for years, which means their groups fed and protected them. For example, a famous Neanderthal known as Shanidar 1 lived with debilitating injuries that required ongoing community help. Older hominins who lost their teeth still survived, implying others processed food for them.
  • Group Collaboration: Around 1.8 million years ago, Homo erectus worked together to scavenge meat and support pregnant females and young children.
  • Burials and Grief: Deliberate burials from tens of thousands of years ago—such as bone placements at Sima de los Huesos and formal graves at Tabun—prove that early humans and Neanderthals shared emotional bonds and experienced grief when loved ones died.
  • Resource Sharing: According to the Smithsonian Institution, early humans gathered food and tools from various places to bring back to central spots, where sharing resources built strong social ties.

I was actually thinking something similar which led to this. My dog was on an ultra sniffing session on a walk and I was just stood there watching some bugs on the floor. Thinking why were these created, why were we created? It’s a reasonable question we will never know the answer too. Which makes it all the more irritating.

Yes, absolutely.

Iheartpasta · 06/09/2026 23:28

The “why”ness of the question is the human thing. We apply that. When, really, there’s no why. There’s a “how”. But “why” is us projecting the fact we need add meaning where there isn’t.

Mammut · 06/09/2026 23:30

There’s no sense to be made of it. It’s all random.

Most probably not.

I am not a biologist, But I do know that the thinking is that abiogenesis likely happened multiple times on earth, in multiple places, with extinction events.

I love the fact there are 15-21 recognized species with the human genus, and that at one time 8 different human species walked the planet at the same time. When I was young and heard about evolution I used to wonder why there was only one species of human. Now I know!
Have you also heard the panspermia theory?

Do you ever think we might be someone’s pets, or people in a SIMS game or something? With someone putting obstacles in our path and watching us deal with them. Like a child’s ant farm.

Ha! 😁My BFF and I had the same sort conversation in an RE lesson in 1974. We decided we could be atoms in a glass of water being drunk by a person in a Universe whose size and time we couldn't comprehend.
All while we were peeling tangerines out of sight of the teacher and rocking on the two back legs of our chairs.

We aren’t supposed to live beyond reproduction age. It’s modern medicine that keeps us going, even when we’re frail, infirm and/or gaga.

Back in the day the wolves would have got us if we couldn’t keep up with the tribe.

An owld Yorkshire Terrier could get the best of me now 😂

Life ( or building blocks) from space ?

For sure that is possible. I think the signatures of the building blocks have been detected ?

Time likely doesn't exist in the same way - Luckydog7

Am I imagining it or do I generaly remember watching atv progtamme that said time is different beyond the Earth anyway?
Just Googled it and it's called time dilation.

But Time, when you think about it, is a bit nuts.

We have identical units of time - the clock. That is fairly new.

Then there is natures time - sunset, sunrise, seasons and all that kind of thing.

Then there is our experience of time - it flies if you are having fun, if flies if you are late to something, slows to a crawl when bored. Remember as a small child - your birthdays and Christmas took YEARS to come around but the days raced by - it always seemed to be bed time. Now, at this stage for me (late 50s) Christmas is every few months but my days are lovely and long.

Also, for me, time functions in a bizarre way re memory. My mind visits different stages of my life in the most unexpected ways, and "reveals" things to me.

I dunno! Time just short circuits my brain. 😂

Humans exist for the same reason every other living organism on the planet exists - to reproduce.

I think we need to revisit this argument. If we are only for the purpose of reproduction, then why do we live beyond reproduction age and get old?

Because in humans where our young are so vulnerable, grandparents (particularly grandmothers) are nature’s little trick to help human babies survive. It’s all about successful reproduction.

Other species don’t have this because their young are more independent.

I think the Douglas Adams puddle works well on this

"Imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, " This is an interesting world I find myself in, an interesting hole I find myself in; fits me rather neatly, doesn't it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well! It must have been made to have me in it!"

The puddle is just physics and chemistry. But it thinks it is in an environment made for it.

I was wondering if anyone would mention Douglas Adams. Of course, this is all just an experiment run by a couple of white mice. I hope I get to meet Slartibartfast (who's name, I notice, never crops up in baby name threads) before the Vogons build their galactic super highway.

In the meantime, I know where my towel is.

I don’t know but it’s something I’m thinking about more as I get older. I just don’t see the point in anything. Working to acquire more stuff, or to pay for my kids to go to uni, so they can get jobs that allow them to do the same thing. The constant wars, the drive to look a certain way, the caring what other people think. It’s all inconsequential in the end so what’s the point if any of it?

I know you aren't, but any belief system should be strong enough to be questioned.

do you believe perpetrators really deserve punishment then as it's not really their fault? if it's predestined that he has to hit her, rape her, murder her and she was predestined to be hit, raped, murdered? does that give us an out from personal responsibility? well I could do X but it'll work out how it wants so I'm powerless so might as well not?

thing is, if you don't believe in God there's no why, only how. we exist because evolution keeps going. it happens to have "ended" at us but will continue beyond our species existence

how about happiness? joy? love?
working to earn money to do things that keep you safe and warm and fed and that fill you with joy? paying for the kids to go to uni to get good jobs to protect them from the pain of poverty and enable them to experience more joy?
caring what others think, looking a certain way to please other people, that's a choice.
war is obv shit. life is full of shit stuff. I'm not sure that makes all life pointless.

do you think you're generally quite low ATM or just cynical? it might be worth sharing there feelings in RL too to get some support

Yes they deserve punishment as we obey the laws of duality here on Earth. You can’t say, oh I’m really only a soul so you can’t punish me. The choice of incarnating into a human body means you also choose to abide by the rules on Earth.

but you're preprogrammed to NOT obey them. if someone is choosing to enter a body that will die at 23 through DV and someone is choosing to enter a body that will kill their partner at 23 through DV l, there's surely no free will or choice? I don't obey the law because I choose to, but because my soul chose to be someone who didn't kill someone else.

anyway, my point wasn't to say you were wrong, it's my opinion and you're opinion and they don't have to agree, I just don't understand how you can align personal responsibility with a decision your soul apparently made to let you live a life of suffering / make you live a life perpetrating evil
