As my user name says why do we bloody exist, or why do i bloody exist.

OP posts:

I go down consciousness and meaning of existence and probabilities very often, my YouTube looks like it needs a tinfoil hat but I love deep questions like this! I follow a few good channels if interested 😂

Banjas · 06/09/2026 09:05

I wondered why we exist too and why some of us exist for such a short time, when reading about the beautiful children murdered by their mother and the loss of a baby after a day by a celebrity. 😢
Why do some exist in absolute luxury and some exist in appalling conditions.
Why do some exist suffering terrible pain and illness and others healthy and pain free.
It’s a mystery.
I have no idea.
The fickle finger of fate comes to mind.

We aren’t supposed to live beyond reproduction age. It’s modern medicine that keeps us going, even when we’re frail, infirm and/or gaga.

Back in the day the wolves would have got us if we couldn’t keep up with the tribe.

Humans exist for the same reason every other living organism on the planet exists - to reproduce.

I think we need to revisit this argument. If we are only for the purpose of reproduction, then why do we live beyond reproduction age and get old?

Modern medicine mainly.

We’re basically chemicals that can be seen accross the universe constantly. You need building blocks for life and the earth
had those.

This does not explain it all though. Like - why do we think at all? It. is clear that all animals think but why do humans think this way?

I am constantly amazed by scientists and what they manage to find out by asking Why? Human intelligence is incredible and we are just born with it - we don't really have to work for it all!

But, within that, we need to remain humble and recognize that no matter how great we are, what we understand is a sliver of what goes on. Every discovery shows how much we don't know.

It’s millions of years of evolution and natural selection to make us better adapted to our environment. We all started off as the most basic primitive creature and over time different species evolved in to what we see today. That’s why we share such close DNA with chimps because we all came from the same place but humans adapted a step further

You exist because you chose to experience life in a human body. The real you is a soul, and before you were incarnated on Earth you chose the lessons you wanted to learn and the experiences you wanted to encounter in your physical lifetime here. After your human life ends you will return back to being a soul.

With zero consciousness in the same way no one can remember before we were born, it will be the same after we die.

Many species don't live beyond reproductive age. If you are just focusing on humans then you're missing the point. Humans are the same as every other species in respect of why we are here.

Yes, there are massive variations between a may fly and an elephant but the principle is the same.

Well, we are a species of ape.

Evolution is not about making any species "better" as such. There is no driving force behind it. It is tiny random changes that may or my not give a species an advantage in any particular environment.

OtterlyAstounding · 06/09/2026 15:57

Why would you think there's a reason?

No. We, and a few whales, have menopause. If we were all dead there would be no need. Grandmother hypothesis. For a species so frail in infancy, having Grandmothers makes perfect sense.

Men aren't supposed to live longer. Women are.

User3456 · 06/09/2026 19:06

This is why I was so interested in philosophy as a teenager. It's a very interesting question. No one knows the answer, of course. There's probably some interesting free courses on it on openlearn if you wanted to explore it further.
I think it's good to try and make a meaningful difference in your life though - whatever that would look like for you.

Luckydog7 · 06/09/2026 19:30

Evolution isn't WHY we exist, it's HOW we exist. The bigger question is why/how ANYTHING exists. Once you get past the universe existing/the big bang, everything has a decent model for how it exists now but that's because we understand the rules of this universe.

Anything outside of our universe we can't even imagine how things work. Time likely doesn't exist in the same way, Ditto space, matter etc so we can't make a model for anything before that point.

I've always looked at fractals and wondered if we exist in a fractal. Particles orbit around particals, planets orbit around sun's. Maybe universes orbit around universes. Maybe the amoeba is wondering what created the puddle they live in, while we wonder what created the universe. Maybe some larger intellect is looking down at us and wondering if we are wondering.

If we have become self aware then I see no reason why other parts of the universe haven't too.

If in doubt...

If nothing we do matters then the only thing that matters is what we do.

Openmouthinsertfood · 06/09/2026 19:40

Time likely doesn't exist in the same way - Luckydog7

Am I imagining it or do I generaly remember watching atv progtamme that said time is different beyond the Earth anyway?
Just Googled it and it's called time dilation.

You think people who have horrific lived have chosen to experience them? So who chooses to perpetrated thoat abuse?

To understand it fully you will need to read around the subject I’m afraid. Spirituality. We live in a world of duality- good/bad, hot/cold etc. whereas the soul is singularity so it has no opposite. I can recommend some authors if you’d like?

Nonsense. People can quite naturally live past menopause. From an evolution point of view, after your useful reproduction years are behind you, you still have a role raising those kids and their kids

No, happy for you to just answer the question, are you saying that kids who are beaten to death or women who are taped have chosen that before life, and if so do the perpetrators also choose it or are they compelled to to fulfil the other person's learning objectives? By that logic is punishment and sympathy necessary

pimplebum · 06/09/2026 20:03

What have you been smoking ?

Pedant61 · 06/09/2026 20:03

We exist because previous generations reproduced. It's very simple - there is no Grand Plan, and there is no actual point to our existence.

ThisOldThang · 06/09/2026 20:04

If you think about it, there's an unbroken link between you and the very first single celled organism on earth. Every one of your ancestors made it through the trials of life.

Who are you to break the chain?

Weeellokthen · 06/09/2026 20:07

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/09/2026 22:23

Depends. If you're religious it's one answer. If you're talking about science it's all evolution.

IMO I like the Peanuts conversation. Lucy asks CB why we're here. He says to make others happy. She asks why they're here. He say to make us happy. She shouts SOMEONE'S NOT DOING THEIR JOB.

I try to make the world better. Works for me.

😂😅

Rocket1982 · 06/09/2026 20:08

The fact that any of us exist is down to random good luck and the marvels of evolution, physics and biology. We should make the most of it.

We are genetically programmed to find a match and have children. Nurture and raise them so they can do the same. Our grandchildren rising as we are ebbing away.

It is life’s longing for itself.
