Anyone seen the new trailer released yesterday? I’m so excited for Christmas, it looks amazing.

I think there were poor black boys living in the midlands in the 60s.

Yeah my dad for one, lol. Well, 70s anyway.
But Snape IS a poor white working class boy.

But anyway, we are not going to agree on this so I will leave it there.

It makes no difference whatsoever what colour his skin is. No element of the book or plot changes.

Well, the marauders were bullying Snape.
Is it some how ok if Snape was white,.as it's far too shocking that he was black.

Sirius and James were nasty pieces of work... maybe Snape being black will highlight just how awful they were. Because right now, people are thinking of them as loveable rogues who were a bit stupid when they were young.... But actually they were utterly awful and bullied their peers...

Sirius and Lupin actors haven’t been cast yet (afaik) so it’s possible the marauders won’t all be white

I know for me in my eyes it will never be better than the films. I guess that’s my era so it’s what I’m used too. I did watch the trailer and looks quite good as I know it includes bits from the books that the movies didn’t show . I just wish they wouldn’t put it on at Christmas. I’ll be waiting until after Boxing Day as I’m busy busy Christmas Eve - Boxing Day. They did the same last year with stranger things… I always watch the movies the week (10 days) running up to Christmas along side my Christmas movie advent.

Mine too! I was sooo disappointed by the final battle ending! The whole entire point is that without the horcruxes, Voldemort was mortal. And was supposed to die a mere mortal. Not randomly explode and shatter into a million pieces. And it was meant to be in the great hall at sunrise. I think I had that image so perfectly in my head that I was outraged they went flying around outside and then he just exploded into nothing. Ridiculous!

agree that Hermione is perfect and seems a much better actress than Emma Watson. Can’t wait to see all the little details the films missed

This was one of the biggest things that angered me about the film, the Battle of Hogwarts is probably the best part of the entire series (closely followed by Snape's memories in the pensive) and makes me emotional every time I read it. They completely ruined it. It was the bit where Voldemort turns on Molly when she kills Bellatrix, and that's the moment Harry faces Voldemort because he couldn't see Molly get hurt, they could have had that moment and they fluffed it.

I don't understand how people can say the films were perfection, maybe you can think that if you didn't read the books but if you did the films pale in comparison.

I'm very excited for the series, also don't have HBO but will subscribe just to watch this. The actress who plays Hermione voiced her for the first 3 of the audible books I believe and she was excellent. Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe were appalling actors (in my opinion anyway) so I'm hoping the new actors do a good job.

Looking forward to it! Hoping there will be time to show some fun things from the books.

In the (excellent) full cast audiobooks there’s a very different performance / take on Snape to Alan Rickman’s that’s interesting - nastier! I’m interested to see the portrayal in this, too.

worry for the young cast members. I enjoy shows ‘for DC’ a lot, but aspects of the film industry and fame still seem quite dodgy for young performers.

In the audiobooks most of the voice actors sound similar to the film ones, which for me is both a good and bad thing. With exceptions including Harry (deeper voice, good) Hagrid (fantastic), Snape (good) and Dumbledore (good but distractingly Hugh Laurie).

Civilservant · 09/09/2026 23:06

I too want to see a properly antagonistic, vindictive Snape.

BlackeyedSusan · 09/09/2026 23:12

Like the new Hermione. Do not like the new Snape casting. (Don't know much about the actor himself, not a criticism of him) I hope there are fewer annoying moments as they are more faithful to the books.

Can't get more perfect than the original Draco. That will be strange.

I find it fascinating how the kids aged. The cute "11" year olds didn't all age as well as each other.

The pictures in the book are better! Only just watching all the films and am surprised at other people's interpretation of Hogwarts!

Maybe not but the same people have no problem with Alan Rickman playing Snape when he’s 20 years too old. There’s an obvious reason for that.

The most racist thing is for you to assume that the defining characteristic of a person is there colour.
It makes the actor only his colour, when he is so much more than that.

There was a lot of dislike about Alan Rickman being older, and actually he isn't like the Snape in the books- but he made the Snape role his own.

The Snape from the film's is cold, aloof and in control, the character in the book is so different and after recently re reading i found it hard to accept that Dumbledoor allowed him to teach. He is a mean bully, trying to make up for his inadequacy. I don't think his death redeemed him ultimately.

Seen the trailer. FWIW I thought Hermione was better than the original, Harry a bit better too, but Rupert Grint was Ron and seems odd to have another ginger kid in the role.

Not going to watch though. Seen the films, read the books, not enough of a potterhead to rewatch again.

If you’ve read the books you’d know the whole Weasley clan is ginger. It would be immensely weird if Ron didn’t have ginger hair 🧑‍🦰

Themsofcoffee · Yesterday 08:53

I didn't explain it well. Obviously he's going to have ginger hair. What i meant was that he just looked like any random ginger haired kid but that i couldn't see him as Ron.

Nincompoo · Yesterday 09:03

Ahhhh, got ya. Yeah it’s going to take some adjusting to for sure.
