Anyone seen the new trailer released yesterday? I’m so excited for Christmas, it looks amazing.

I think the trailer looks good. They can't make it feel too different from the films, as a wizard school is quite specific. Making it into a series means they won't try to split the last book in to 2 and spend most of film 1 going for a walk.

I don't really understand the remake objections. Using the same logic, Hamlet must be waayyyyy overdone. It's had four hundred years of repeats.

Actually that’s a good point, I wonder if they’ll stick to book 1= series 1?

That could mean series 1 has 6 episodes and series 7 about 20 🤣

I hope they get Ron right, not just some goofy comic relief. All his best bits from the books were wrecked in the films: why oh why did his takedown of the troll have to have Hermione going ‘swish and flick!’, rather than completely frozen as she was in the book. And taking out ‘are you a witch or not??’ and making him the idiot instead was sacrilegious. Even his chess game had Harry figuring out that he was going to sacrifice himself.

Rickman wasn't perfect in the role of,Snape. Good ,yes. But not perfect,he was too old, too fat, too handsome, too theatrical, not unpleasant enough, a bit too likeable and sexy.

Snape is supposed to be an angry, bitter, jealous ugly man that takes his frustration out on small children that he's forced to teach potions because he has no choice in the matter.

Ah me too! I LOVE the books so much but the films always fell short for me. Though they did improve towards the last few but still not good enough. I really hope the series is closer to the books 🙏

No, you’re not the only one. I dislike them too. They left out lots and personalities changed. I love Alan Rickman but his Snape was far too old @wheelhouse1717and far too calm. There are lots of book fans who said Rickman was too old - he’s supposed to be 31 years old in PS, not in his 50s.

Really looking forward to the new adaptation.

It’ll be on HBO Max I think, so I will switch from Netflix to watch it.

Great spots! I’ve seen some other bits mentioned online too- Ron has a bloody nose when congratulating Harry after his first quidditch match which indicates the punch-up he and Neville have with Draco in the stands.

Also some of the background details look great, someone pointed out a Woolworths carrier bag with the luggage in their dorm, keeping in with the 1990s Britain setting!

I enjoyed the details from the trailer. I love Seamus’ PJs with the quaffle and the quidditch hoop.

Yes the films really did Ron dirty! One scene that sticks out is the devils snare bit in philosophers stone which they completely changed to make Ron even more idiotic in the film. They also took multiple lines from him in the book and gave them to Hermione instead.

Really looking forward to this. Lenny Rush will be interesting as Dobby. I wondered about that casting to begin with, but he was sensitive and very moving in A Woman of Substance.

The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the presence of Peeves. He's a tedious little tit who adds no value and poor humour to the books. In particular his crass little jape in the last book, right at the end of the Battle of Hogwarts, when we're all in bits about the deaths of Fred, Tonks, Lupin, etc. I'm sorry that Rik Mayall was cut from the first film but the character was absolutely no loss.

Harry Potter is massive and will be massive despite people bitching about "ohhhh the original films were the absolute best, with shit child actors the best most perfect cast evaaaaaaa".

And actually, I’m not sure that fact had been established in the books released at the time the initial casting was done. And even once it is in the books, I think it’s only on their gravestones. So you do have to be paying attention to their birth and death years.

Alan Rickman was only a few years older than Julie Walters as Mrs Weasley. If Lily and James had been older parents, he wouldn’t have been wildly off on the age.

I don’t know why JK Rowling made them so young when they died. It means Petunia must have had Dudley at about 18.

I am so excited about this series after seeing the trailers.

The films were okay but missed so much of the rich detail and background in the books. The half blood prince film adaptation in particular was a travesty. All that fascinating history of Voldemort and working out what objects the horcruxes were likely to be - all removed from the film.

But the biggest travesty of all was missing out the muggle prime minister scene. I love that scene in the book!

Series 1 covers the philosopher's stone book and is 8 episodes long.

It's because she hadn't fleshed it out properly or thought about the timelines properly when she wrote the first few. She wasn't great at the maths.

Also half blood Prince was supposed to be the second book original and it got changed etc
