How often do you find money - and do you keep it?

I was out walking today and musing about the money I've found over the years. On average I find about £15 per year ( this year so far it's about £7, still a few months to go).

I tend to keep anything under about £5, but for big amounts I hand it in to the police, who give it back to me after a month if it's unclaimed (which it always is). I once found £60, and last year I found £40 - both of which I got to keep.

Does anyone else find money often?

@Ifailedits a joke!!!

I found £200 and in a red phone box and tracked down the owner who was really nasty to me and insisted on carefully counting it whilst filming himself. In a bizarre coincidence he walked into my business about 12 months later and oddly I couldn’t fit him any time that month.

@Ifailed sounds like she hasn't raised a smile since 1963. There's always one and here she is!

I sometimes find the odd £20 in DH's wallet which I'll keep.

Where are you regularly finding so much money that you hand it to the police?? I’ve found the odd fiver, pound coin and once £20 over the years, all of which I’ve kept as none had any obvious owner. If I saw someone drop money I’d hand it back to them. It rarely happens these days cos few people carry cash anymore

I normally find it in the street or on pavements or carparks, or once in a park.
I live in a tiny town, so normally DH will put something on Facebook asking if anyone has lost some money in x location, and when nobody owns up I hand it in at the police station, who give it back when it's unclaimed.

I found £5 this morning as I was taking the dog out. It was 3:30 in the morning, and no one else was about, so I've kept it and I'll get the dog some treats with it.

I never find any money outside the house, sadly. I find a fair bit of change in the bottom of bags/random notes occasionally in old handbags which is always fun.

I found £15 as a teenager which at the time seemed like loads and just kept it. As an adult one year I found £40 right near Christmas. There is no police station where I live so I put it in a local Christmas appeal box. I found a £1 in a shopping centre once, that’s it I think.

I lost £40 when I was a student I remember the security guard on campus laughing at the thought someone may have handed it in. It was my rent money for the week.
