Due to the war in Iran, I simply cannot afford to heat my home.

I'm on heating oil, and since day 1 of the war, oil prices have risen sharply. I've just done a quick calculation, and to fill my tank today it will cost £550, the day before it all kicked off it would have cost £260. I'm just hoping and praying we have a mild winter. 🙏 Just venting.

Thanks to everyone for responding. Hopefully the government will cap oil prices (as with gas and electricity), if the war continues.

I read somewhere the Government are planning to help people who rely on heating oil.

What are you planning to do for hot water then if you've no oil? Do you have an immersion heater?

But we are talking about a couple of hours a day…. Is this really unaffordable? How much does that work out a day?

Wouldn't it be better to buy a half tank of oil for now and use it as sparingly as possible?

Good idea. Also, Online Home Shop are great for blankets and oodie style jumpers etc, very good value and snug and warm.

Can you buy kerosene at the pump in your area? I went a few times and got 20 litres each time when I couldn't afford a big delivery. Might be an option if you can't afford a big amount in one go.
Also I have thermal bcked blinds and curtains. I didnt think they made much of a difference nd took them out of a bedroom but they definitely increased the temperature by 2 or 3 degrees. I got an electric blanket last winter for me and dd. If the house is cold at least a nice warm bed is comforting and they are cheap to run

Definitely heated throws. I wfh, and in winter won’t have my heating on during the day. Heated throws are brilliant and pretty economical.

I’m in the same boat. Have not used any oil since March as I can’t afford to fill up the tank. I’ve used the electric shower and dishwasher. Fortunately I have a wood burner. I do feel that we are the forgotten few.

When we had no heating and single glazing, and only the electric shower for hot water I seriously considered putting a tent up in the front room to keep heat in, if we'd have done it, we'd have slept in there too.

Apparently cocooning in a tent really works.

im looking at my tank and worrying about it already . The problem is , that most oil suppliers do a minimum order of 500 litres , and unless you’ve got an account with them , you’ve got to pay that up front . I’m very lucky that my oil suppliers does a budget account , so I pay £70 a month, and as long as I’ve got two payments in advance , they let me have 4 months on credit . Thank goodness we’ve got a wood burner and an endless supply of wood , or we’d be in trouble.

I've piled on a few pounds and I've started the peri menopause I think and by God I'm my own water bottle ATM. I hate central heating anyway but this winter I'm going to be cooking like a rotisserie chicken . Deffo recommend gaining a few pounds.
