Due to the war in Iran, I simply cannot afford to heat my home.

I'm on heating oil, and since day 1 of the war, oil prices have risen sharply. I've just done a quick calculation, and to fill my tank today it will cost £550, the day before it all kicked off it would have cost £260. I'm just hoping and praying we have a mild winter. 🙏 Just venting.

Completely untrue. Migration has had no impact on the oil price. I last filled just before the war started. The price was 54p, it is now around 95-97p. This is entirely due to the war in the Middle East and we need it to stop soon so we can all get back to normal. For many of us it will be a difficult winter where we will need to watch the pennies very closely indeed.

Migration has had no impact on the oil price nor the price of food, read whatvi said . immigration HAS reduced the Per Capita Wealth of this country which means that We Are Poorer, and Less Able To Pay For things, so when the Price if Food and Oil goes up people ca. it afford to buy them.

@dreamiesformolly I rarely catch coughs, colds or other viruses thankfully, but I live alone and don't mix much. I was surprised how well I coped last winter. Like yours my body temp is lower than normal (is this an ME thing?) but, since Covid I have developed histamine intolerance/MCAS and spend hours a day overheating and flushing. Much like perimeno symptoms but I'm long past all that. I am concerned about how I'll cope as I age further, so I've applied for a grant for solar panels which will help if I get it of course.

I love this. Well, I'm certainly on the plumper side of what is apparently healthy. I'm not in the UK now but when I was and was working outside I used to say "I'm fat and happy". I have to say I was never cold. We stress too much about what the glossy magazines tell us we should look like, men and women. Stuff them all. Be you, be happy, enjoy food and it'll likely self regulate. But, whatever, a few extra pounds during the winter certainly helps keep the cold at bay. Being a little active helps hugely too. Not necessarily gym active but just doing stuff. Maintaining the house does that, right?

Hi OP. Another vote from me for a dehumidifier. I’ve seen them on gumtree / freecycle and some charity shops every so often. They will help in a few different ways - by removing excess humidity after bathing / laundry, the room air doesn’t feel as cold even without heating. The lower humidity reduces risk of mould which is troublesome to get rid of in a colder house. Also, they definitely generate warm air when they’re running. I find the small-medium sized room dehumidifiers to cost around 10p per hour, when looking at my smart meter. Most of them will shut off when the tank is full or when the humidity level is down, so you can run these in the evening when you get in, without needing to worry about staying up to switch them off. Moisture in the air just hangs around in winter as the doors and windows are shut. I hope you’ll be able to get one.
