Help mums. I am turning 50 in 2028- in 18 months and I need a life plan to help me with this phase of my life. Please help!

Don't worry, I have. The point I was making that it was a decent suggestion from the poster that made it.

I turned 50 last year - you may well find that you naturally change, I did. My daughter occasionally asks me what I've done with her mum 😂.

I found I just naturally worried less about what other people think and have embraced a more mindful way of life.

I'm changing job imminently for a better work/life balance, I enjoy getting outside a lot more, have stepped away from social media a bit and drink less. I've spent some time journaling and thinking about what made me happy before adult life got me in its clutches and am picking up old hobbies and exploring new ones.

It's all come as a bit of a surprise but I'm really happy and at peace with the changes.

Love the PP's advice to start saying no. Put yourself first at least some of the time. Don't be a doormat or a mug. Shed people and commitments that drain you.

My top three things that saw me through my fifties

  • Start weight training. Could be bootcamp, bodyweight, gym, lifting. Find a form you like and do it regularly.
  • Make a bucket list of things big and small, free, cheap and expensive, that you want to experience and start doing them as often as you can. Small/cheap things once a week, bigger things once a month, major things at least once a year. Those countries you always wanted to visit, bands you always wanted to hear live - do it now.
  • Do something new - every day if possible, if not, every week, to prevent a rut. Try new forms of exercise, food, clothing styles. Go to new places on holiday, for nights out. Listen to different music.

I never tried HRT so can't comment but I bet there will be some great advice on here about it.

No one can tell you what your plan should be. For all we know… you aren’t one to continually say sorry when you’ve done nothing wrong

but we can tell you categorically that if you deal with the drinking issue… life will become measurably better no matter what age you do it . Sooner the better
