2026 is turning out to be a right rotter, isn't it.

I saw him in the original stage performance of the Rocky Horror Show in London (Royal Court, Theatre Upstairs) in the late 70s and he was mesmerising, sashaying into the audience in drag. And what a voice!
With Richard O’Brien and Little Nell too.

Me and the DDs are huge Rocky fans, I can’t even recall how many times we’ve been to see the stage show, it’s so many but DH is very much not a fan. However, every time we go he can’t help but remind us how he too saw the original in the 70s - he’s a bit older than me I was a mere child 😁. Even he has to admit Tim Curry was sensational.

I first remember seeing him in a film called CLUE, based on the Cluedo board game. Saw it as a kid in the 80's and loved it and thought he was great.

Have liked him in everything he has done since then. Great actor.

I loved that film too! It was widely quoted from by my DB and his friends. Wadsworth the butler was a great character, well-played.

He was a wonderful actor. He was great fun as Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers and the only Long John Silver better than him was Brian Blessed. Like Michael Caine, he was terrific alongside the Muppets.

Same here. I absolutely loved that film - I remember recording it from the telly on VHS and watching it back again and again and again - and Tim Curry was the one who held it all together so brilliantly. I just bought it on DVD a couple of months ago.

Fantastic in Ricky horror. Loved clue growing up.
Makes you realise you are also beginning to get older when some of your favourite actors/singers from the 80's are passing away.

vincettenoir · 26/08/2026 17:39

I LOVE him in everything. He was a huge comic talent.

I loved him in Clue! Also for us 80s children, does anyone else remember him as the grand wizard in the Worst Witch film? (Has anyone seen my tambourine!)

First Dolly, now him. This makes me very sad.

Just coming on to say the same, I adored him as the Grand Wizard in the Worst Witch. That music break is properly bonkers and I properly fancied him 😂

They say it comes in three’s and there’s another 80 year old who also appeared in Home Alone 2 who a lot of people won’t be sorry to see the back of….

Happyhettie · 26/08/2026 17:44

Nooooooo! I love Tim Curry (even though I never stood a chance as his one true love was Miss Piggy)

What a shite couple of days!
It’s the same feeling I had when Alan Rickman and David Bowie died within a few days of each other.

Latenightreader · 26/08/2026 17:44

Wasn't he Miss Hannigan's brother Rooster in Annie? I think that was my first experience of him, but he has been in some crackers over the years.

Bloody hell. 2016 all over again. He was 80, but I wasn't expecting it!!

R.I.P. xx

Hey, stop being rude about Brenda Fricker. 😃

(RIP Brenda. You were a genius.)

The Worst Witch - one of my fave films. So many people don’t know it! He was brilliant.

Brenda is already dead though.. ? That poster was talking as if this other 80 y.o. wasn't dead yet. (Although it is a coincidence that she was in Home Alone 2 as well, and was 80-ish when she died, (81 I think...)

.

Butchyrestingface · 26/08/2026 17:59

Imma watch Clue again tonight.

Fare ye well, Wadsworth. You DID do it in the library with the candlestick. And in various other locations with numerous household items too. 💔💔💔

CatLady199 · 26/08/2026 18:02

Bloody loved him 😭

Happyjoe · 26/08/2026 18:02

Oh shit, I am now officially gutted. He was amazing.

Awww great that someone else remembers this film!! It was so funny 😂I watched it with my kids when they were young too and they loved it and have rewatched it many times since.

fundamentallyauthentic · 26/08/2026 18:27

Adored him in Annie, my first memory of him (and that film is the best version of Annie!).

Has anyone read his memoir?

He did a few episodes on Criminal Minds that were an acting masterclass.

I adore him and fell in love with him as an actor when I saw RHPS for the first time but damn, he was sooooo good in criminal minds. Really scary. And fab camp scary in Monk. He was dale the whale in that. Another mega talent gone but what a body of work he leaves behind. I’ll be raising a cheers 🥂 to him at Christmas when my family watch home alone 2 as usual 🥰

SummerNocturnal · 26/08/2026 18:46

What a shame. Also 80. Also died yesterday.
I do hope he gets the plaudits deserved. He was dazzling.
Will never not hear the word "anticip- ation" without thinking of him.

BlindGuyMcSqueezy · 26/08/2026 18:53

Another 80s Worst Witch fan here! My best friend and I watched it over and over. Her cats are even called Maud and Mildred 😄

RIP Tim 💐
