Hotel buffet breakfast, what's your selection?

I love a great buffet breakfast. Due on holiday in a few weeks and this is a part I am looking forward to! I tend to skip lunch so a lush breakfast is a real treat.
Just mulling over what I might have...maybe a small plate of savoury bits like ham, cheese, tomatoes, olives, and a slice of toast and butter. Then a bowl of fresh fruit, or a crepe with honey and fruit. A mini pastry or two. A mini cafetiere of coffee (my hotel does coffee by the cafetiere, yay).
Also love trying the local breakfast specialities such as those flaky honey crepes you get at breakfast in Morocco.
What's your choices?

A glass of prosecco, a pot of Earl Grey tea, scrambled egg and smoked salmon. Maybe a bowl of fresh fruit too. 24 days until we go on holiday......can't wait!

I would basically work my way through the menu, varying my choices each day.

I think I’d be the same - always so much lovely choice.

I usually start the holiday thinking I must be low fat, low sugar and look after my not and never has or will be beach body.

On day one I’ll be up early for muesli and prunes, and by about 9am, I’ll head for my weakness - the pastries! Plain abrasion, the apricot ones, perhaps a cinnamon swirl. Won’t bother with a croissant, muffin or pain au choc, I’m not a pig.

I also love grapefruit segments, so they’ll be next up. I could easily have these at home but never do and they taste better in the sunshine.

Then maybe an egg (runny yolk) and bacon, a hash brown and some toast.

I’ll wash it down with yogurt and fruit compote and take a banana, pastry and lots of coffee outside with me and enjoy the sugar and carb slump relaxing on a sunbed.

Fresh fruit, yoghurt ( pref greek), granola and raspberry compote or honey.

Tomatoes on toast

a couple of mini pastries

A latte

If in The Uk staying in a hotel for work, especially in winter a bowl of steaming hot porridge ( providing its proper and not microwave porridge) with fresh fruit topped with a small amount of peanut butter or honey and seeds.

occasionally a veggie sausage, baked beans and a hash brown.

If in America US pancakes with bacon and lashings of maple syrup.

Black espresso with sugar.
Fried
or poached eggs with buttered toast.
Another espresso.

whythehellnow · 24/08/2026 21:24

I’ve never had a hotel breakfast but my perfect brekkie would be -

eggs Benedict
hash browns
tea
maybe some coco pops

CoastalCalm · 24/08/2026 21:29

Omlette and some bacon
Fruit and pastries
Fruit Juice

troppibambini6 · 24/08/2026 22:03

Fruit, Greek yogurt and eggs.
Much as love all pastries and sweets treats I have to stay away as the make me feel like absolute crap for the rest of the day.

Dsfdf · 24/08/2026 22:08

Mixing about 3 different types of cereal with a bit of yoghurt, some fresh fruit and milk. An example would be Special K, muesli and bran flakes with dried fruit. Can't explain why I enjoy this so much but I do.

Dilemma999 · 24/08/2026 22:19

A proper Greek yoghurt with honey, sprinkled with nuts and seeds, then a mini platter of fruits, usually the tropical varieties like pineapple, papaya, kiwi’s, fruits I don’t often buy at home. Then the less healthy stuff like a bit of local ‘bacon’, always an egg and tomatoes and maybe a side of cheese. Always bring my own decaf teabags down to breakfast.

I always smuggle a couple of rolls and ham/cheese/piece of fruit out for a light lunch.

Mysticguru · 25/08/2026 06:20

Scrambled eggs
tinned tomatoes
cappuccino

DeftGoldHedgehog · 25/08/2026 06:26

I'm always torn as I don't normally eat breakfast and would prefer it after 10.30 as brunch.

Globules · 25/08/2026 06:28

No one choice fits all for me.

This morning I had Dosa, pea Idily, sambar, coconut chutney with beetroot juice. And a chocolate muffin. Lots of black coffee too.

I think I'm going to have an omelette tomorrow.

In England, my favourite is freshly cooked kedgeree but it's so rare to find.

I am also partial to a "station" where a chef whips up what you want to eat.

pinkishtongue · 25/08/2026 07:05

I tend to go for the sweet options, I can’t be doing olives and cheese for breakfast 😂

If I’m fuelling for the day I’ll have some sort of eggs - either an omelette or eggs on toast, followed by yoghurt/fruit then a pastry (or two if they’re tiny). Greek yoghurt in Greece is amazing ❤️

landmarkyear · 25/08/2026 09:00

Yoghurt and fruit, ideally with a fruit compote
pain au chocolat
Lots of English breakfast tea

or

bacon, tomato, mushrooms and toast
lots of tea

😋

MurielTheTerrible · 25/08/2026 09:08

Always black coffee.
If in the UK, poached eggs (if they do them). If not, bit of scrambled, few mushrooms if they aren't boiled.
On holiday recently: cheese and tomatoes, some days a bit of spanakopita. Piece of toast on the Sunday. Dates every day because I love them.

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 25/08/2026 09:23

If it’s somewhere fancy then all the fruits with Greek yoghurt and honey, some crusty bread and Brie. With a decaf latte and pineapple juice.

if it’s not I get toast, bacon, hashbrowns and ketchup and assemble a sandwich, with an apple juice on the side, or a cup of tea if I’ve remembered to bring a decaf teabag.

moppety · 25/08/2026 09:27

Round 1, cooked breakfast stuff. Pause and coffee. Round 2, fruit, yogurt and pastries.

Flannelfeet · 25/08/2026 09:31

curly100 · 24/08/2026 17:16

Orange juice
Sausage(s) (links not square), bacon, black pudding, haggis, fried egg(s), tattie scone, fried bread, baked beans (not touching egg)
Followed by yoghurt, granola, and berry compote

I can't do the beans touching the egg either so always avoid the beans unless they come in a little ramekin.

Crikeyalmighty · 25/08/2026 09:38

off to Majorca and 2 hotels beloved by Germans , so will be having an ensaimada pastry, cheese and ham omlette, smoked salmon, tomatoes and Greek yoghurt with grapes plus coffee and orange juice and cava

I have the Full Monty with 2 cups of decent coffee. And then I pilfer a banana to take with me for elevenses.

I do the exact same!
Once had a lovely buffet breakfast in an Edinburgh hotel, there were kippers and porridge as well as all the usual things. Marvellous.

Oooh no. No beans for breakfast. 🤮🤮🤮

My fave hotel breakfast is the rival in Stockholm ( owned by Benny from abba) - They have a buffet plus a fresh menu - so my ideal is mountains of gravadlax with a dill sauce , fresh poppy seed bread and butter and some Greek yoghurt and fruit off the buffet and then their handmade rosti with garlic crispy fried kale plus a great omlette off the fresh - Other days I’ve had fabulous oatmeal with lingonberry jam and tiny fried cheese and ham toasties with fried eggs ( not healthy I know but terrific) they also do great fresh ginger shots , smoothies and ginger tea.i look forward too it every morning and the room is gorgeous too- red velvet curved booths - i would live in the hotel if i could- lol!! It’s not the cheapest , but not drastic either and the rooms are also lovely -I’ve been 6 times for new year I like it that much
