Morning all!

Another sunny but cool day here.

Despite washing off the useless face cream I've got puffy eyelids, so I've been sitting with cold compresses on my eyes. I think my system overreacts to everything when I've got PEM.

September is lovely. All the autumn colours are so cosy. Plum, mustard, teal. Bye bye summer!

Oioiqueen · 01/09/2026 09:23

It's September ❤️ I love this time of year. Although I'm very twitchy about picking up some germs when the kids go back. I've had a sore throat since yesterday and keep sneezing. DS has been the same so I think he is breeding something annoyingly. I'm not as twitchy as last year when on chemo but conscious I've been off it only about 6/7 weeks and the immunotherapy turbo charges my immune system so expecting to end up in bed. Sigh, however we go on.

I think there will be a lot of seasonal allergens about from the damp weather, too, so could be triggering sneezing. Hope you don't come down with anything.

Do you make any provision for bed rest in advance, have books and fresh pillows set aside for if you need to rest, or do you just collapse in a heap? I confess I tend to overdo things to the point of no return. Then wish I were in a lovely convalescent hospital being waited on hand and foot, but it's not going to happen! Poor DH does his best but hasn't a clue about fluffing pillows and bringing cups of tea, i just lie there like a piece of lost luggage until I can stagger out to rejoin family life.

Gentle pinches and punches for the first day of the month. I love September. I will be at kings Cross in an hour to catch the hogwarts express 🚂
We went to a village show this weekend and bought a tree for a tenner! I was thrilled.
Also did some jigsaw puzzling and listened to "my dad wrote a porno" - hilarious.
Back to work, have already made a stupid mistake that wil be a faff to fix.
Just let me watch gardeners world and knit!!!
Hope everyone is well

Well done on the tree. You can get some real bargains at places where keen gardeners sell their plants etc. I love that sort of thing, nothing shrink wrapped in sight! There is a manor house near us which has an open garden during the summer months. You get a tour of the walled garden, a cup of tea in a little marquee, and choose a bunch of flowers which the head gardener cuts for you. All for £5!

Enjoy Hogwarts😁

TodayIsabetterone · 01/09/2026 10:39

Happy September everyone
Our first year with no back to school/ sixth form/ uni etc.. so feels a bit strange. DD starts a gap year instead so has work/ travel plans but not just yet.

Good luck with work @bedfrog and what a bargain on the tree! 🌲

Fingers crossed you can stay germ free @Oioiqueen It’s so difficult with children and schools and must be even more so of a worry after chemo.

Sorry about the face cream issues @TeaAndStrumpets frustrating for you!

martha79 · 01/09/2026 11:24

Happy September! Hope we can all have an easy autumn with no lurgies.

It's a beautiful day here. Taking it easy this morning as got a friend coming over later to help me (finally) build my bed - wish us flatpack-luck!

TodayIsabetterone · 01/09/2026 11:39

Ahh I was wondering if you ever got the bed built @martha79 Wishing you lots of luck and a well deserved sleep on your new bed!

CoffeeBeansGalore · 01/09/2026 11:48

Morning all.
Good luck building the bed @martha79 .
@Oioiqueen hoping it's just dust & not germs.
@TeaAndStrumpets annoying. Hope it goes down soon.
@bedfrog hope the rest of the week goes smoothly. Hogwarts Express, oh wow!

I have had a productive morning. I've trimmed my ( small) lavender bush, made a double sized veggie lasagne ( that's dinner today and tomorrow sorted) and organised my understairs log cupboard. I think we've got enough logs for this winter.

Time for a sit down. We're binge watching Trigger Point.

danglethedingle · 01/09/2026 12:48

I love autumn, its my very favourite season. It still feels like summer here though, its just on the hot side of warm, with a gentle breeze, its just about perfect.

Thanks, reminded me I need to trim our lavender as well!

martha79 · 01/09/2026 18:11

I have a bed! It was an experience... bit tricky in places and I had a huge wobbly moment in the middle where I went boiling hot and shaky and had to lie down for half an hour). But we got it done. Obviously the cats have claimed it immediately 😂 I am also in it now and don't think I'll be out of it much this evening.

danglethedingle · 01/09/2026 18:39

Well done! and enjoy your lie down, is it comfy?

TodayIsabetterone · 01/09/2026 18:53

Well done! Glad it has the cats approval! Enjoy a comfortable nights sleep 😴

martha79 · 01/09/2026 19:06

It's very comfy. I knew the mattress was good but it's even better now it's not on the floor 😂

Oioiqueen · 01/09/2026 20:46

@TeaAndStrumpets I used to have provisions when I first started chemo incase it side swiped me. I tend to just make sure I have a topped up bottle of water and the TV remote nowadays. Sorry that you keep going until you crash, do you ever verbalise that you are heading that way? I find if I mention it my husband snaps into action and takes over. I usually go in another room and rest then.

@FuzzyPuffling that sounds like an epic day of doing stuff

Are we meant to trim lavender? I've never touched ours, does it help it grow back better?

I feel feel sneezy today but it hasn't progressed any further. I take anti histamine anyway so not entirely sure what's going on.

I don't tell him specifically about going into a crash but he knows what happens when I am heading that way. I get a sudden burst of energy and talk nineteen to the dozen, so he knows I'm pushing myself and often suggests I go for a nap. He has the patience of a saint really.

FuzzyPuffling · 02/09/2026 08:01

Lavender trimming....it has a tendency to go woody, ie only growing nicely at the tips. Trimming helps to prevent this, while keeping it a nice shape and flowering well.
Don't cut into old wood though, it doesn't like that!
And it doesn't mind cold, but hates wet feet in the winter!

I'm still struggling along with feeling ok in the morning ( and doing stuff) then by the afternoon/ evening feeling like I have flu. It's rotten!

It's awful when you have the energy to start a project but not to finish it! I do tend to carry on after I've run out of energy, or feel really useless that I've not done the useful thing intended!

Lavender is on my list for the new garden. It's half the size of the one we're leaving and hopefully can be pretty easy care. It's a sea of mud at the moment but it was lovely when we first bought the plot and I want to re plant lots of bulbs for an informal look.

FuzzyPuffling · 02/09/2026 08:27

Nothing in my calendar today ( hurrah) except for a shower and hair wash (exhausting) and the final episode of Trigger Point! I wouldn't let DH watch it all in one go- deferred gratification!

TeaAndStrumpets · 02/09/2026 08:32

I'm on Amazon looking for a lovely get well card for someone we know who is having stem cell therapy. Such choice!

I've often been tempted to get a convict crop to save hairwashing but I suppose I'd still have to wash the stubble!

Ah you need to go short on the sides and slightly longer on top. I literally rub a shampoo bar over the top, rinse and done. Never going back to long hair now.

That sounds stylish. My aunt did this into old age, huge colourful specs and earrings to clash with her cropped red hair. I'm mousy so maybe not the same impact!

Morning all,
Back to the osteopath late afternoon so will attempt to take it easy until then though need a shower first.
Strapping up the shoulders has definitely helped and I’ve had less of the shooting nerve pain in the evenings that was really getting me down so that’s good.

Still not fully got everything back in place after the decorator so yesterday DH was busy trying to sort out upstairs and as I felt a tad better I started doing random jobs downstairs that weren’t even a priority and of course the energy ran out and my arm started to throb again.

So frustrated with myself. DH does the best he can to keep things ticking over cleaning wise, but I guess I can see things building up now and I just want to be able to do a few bits to help.

Sorry that descended into a moan! Believe it or not I’m actually feeling quite cheerful today too 😀

Have a good day all
