I let some of my garden go wild. There were some twenty year old oak trees growing there. I'm very carefully strimming the grass now and about ten baby oak trees and also a few hazels have appeared, so it's a baby forest. I had one bluebell in the spring and I'm hoping that strimming and removing the grass will mean more wildflowers appear next year.

Knowing that my bank branch closes in 3 weeks and I’ll be “unemployed” for the first time in my life - can’t wait to have a break, enjoy my redundancy and get to take my kids to school everyday and pick them up

A little less enjoyment in my life this past 2 weeks 😔 palliative care then death of a close family member (husbands side). Shit show to go with it, son acting up at school already( little shit, wants to drop modern studies cos its shit apparently). Red wine has been my sleeping friend 😴. I did love cross stitch and done it loads to chill my head but ive never picked it up again from my mum passed 8 years ago. I need a hobby and fast. 🤣. Im going to watch this thread for ideas 💡.

I've been loving audiobooks at the moment after discovering the Libby app where I can listen to them for free via my library account. I've been listening to all sorts of different books and genres I wouldn't usually so it's been great to try new things and it's made otherwise boring tasks like cleaning the house or driving to work much more enjoyable!

I've also been enjoying mooching round the charity shops. I found an amazing set of shelves for DD's bedroom the other day. It doesn't even matter if I don't find anything in them I just like a browse and when I do find something I love it gives me such a happy feeling!

We're planning a spur of the moment day trip to France. We have two small DDs and are a couple of hours away from Dover but have decided to just get up super early, get a ferry to Calais about 8am, go to the French supermarkets and for lunch and then come home later that day. It probably means leaving the house at 5am and getting home at 8pm but sod it, it's an adventure! I've been making a list of what I'd like to buy over there so that's been a nice distraction from work.

Spending time at home after working away

I've enjoyed returning to simpler things after having a big operation & needing to be off work for 6 weeks.
I'm trying to make use of this time by doing a small task each day like decluttering a cupboard or drawer. I've been on the look out for a new set of saucepans for ages & today because I had the time to have a good look, I've managed to buy a great set at a good price. We realised today we've had the last set 30 years & we hope this next set last the next 30 years.
Tidying kitchen cupboards & wardrobes has been nice as I have the time to do it. I've also enjoyed making/eating nice food again after the operation. Lots of salads & vegetables have been eaten in the hot weather.
Although I struggle with the heat, it's been lovely to wake up to sunshine. It helps to keep you feeling positive. I was hoping my garden would be green & luscious but the UK heatwave has obliterated most of my plants & the lawn so I'm considering paying someone to come & dig up any dead plants & to get the garden ready for the winter by clearing the borders. It will be nice to start with a clean slate in the spring when I can get back to doing the garden myself again.

We've just moved back to UK. I am really enjoying living back by the sea, catching up with friends and having a new, more stress free job where everyone seems lovely. Even the supermarket is a novelty at the moment. And takeaways seem half the price. On Sunday we had a cliff top breakfast overlooking the sea and it was just marvellous.

I rediscovered my foot bath, and it has been bliss to sit with my feet in cold, bubbling water during heatwave days. My children are also loving it!

Riding my mare. I had to retire her due to arthritis but a change of stables means I am able to get her out in the field far more, and as a result we are back pootling about together. Such joy.

The Rest is History podcast, especially listening to it outside in the sun, will be peak memories for 2026!

Learning to paint with watercolours using online tutorials.
I already knew I have no artistic eye but I’m looking around me more at textures and tones. I’m learning the techniques and colour theory.
It’s also nice to allow myself to fail but use lovely paper and materials while doing so!

My job ended a few months ago, and it’s been a bit stressful finding a new one. Thankfully I’ve been offered a job that starts in September, so I’ve been enjoying being blissfully unemployed through the summer, not having to juggle the school holidays and work, just being able to spend time with my family and enjoy a bit of downtime before life resumes in Autumn.

Four and a half months on from the end of my marriage and I am starting to sleep and eat better. Finding new things to do, joining new clubs and continuing my degree despite everything I've been through x
