Did anyone else NOT get the wildfire alert?

Just curious as nobody in my house did (we don't live particularly rurally but there is no phone signal here so we rely on WiFi calling). When the system has been tested previously we bavn't had the alerts then either.

It seems a but of a flawed system if it doesn't get through. I can only assume it's due to our poor signal unless there's a different reason.

I wonder if people in other countries turn the alerts off or if it just a British thing

Interestingly in some countries you are not allowed to opt out of certain alerts

Other countries most likely use them properly though, for an actual alert not a public information message.

To be fair, we didn't get the alert (I'm Scotland), but I'm very well aware that there was one, and what areas it was aimed at!

DH and I were in the same room when the alert came. His phone received it (Samsung), mine didn't (i-phone). He read it out to me.

When there's a severe drought, everywhere is bone dry, there's a shortage of water, people's homes are burning down and there are numerous out-of-control wildfires all over the country, then it is an emergency.

The emergency services (the fire brigade) asked for it to be issued.

What do you want to wait for - flames a hundred yards from your house?

Jeez imagine if they piped the public information films of the 80s to kids' phones these days - the trauma counselling bill required!

It'll stay disabled on my phone - I'm OK with my choice, sorry if randomly outraged internet resident is wailing and gnashing teeth.

I got it, but an hour after everyone else! I'd just got in the car to come home from the gym and nearly crashed the bloody thing in fright! Oddly enough, I didn't hear any go off at 7pm whilst in the gym itself. I did have headphones in, but there's no way I'd have missed that noise going off on multiple phones in there! My phone was on the public WiFi, and the alert came when I was just far enough away from the signal. So perhaps there's an issue there?

I got it 1.5 hours later. Bad mobile signal here but my DD on same network got it at the right time and was sitting next to me at the time
