Did anyone else NOT get the wildfire alert?

Just curious as nobody in my house did (we don't live particularly rurally but there is no phone signal here so we rely on WiFi calling). When the system has been tested previously we bavn't had the alerts then either.

It seems a but of a flawed system if it doesn't get through. I can only assume it's due to our poor signal unless there's a different reason.

No, and alerts not turned off either. In London.

Alerts turned off here so I didn't get it. We were in a restaurant at the time and there was a bit of panic, people thought it was the fire alarm, including some of the staff.

Im amazed at how many have turned them off. Very odd.

“Don’t light a bbq” is not an emergency. That message was not an emergency. It was a misuse of the emergency system.

I like the emergency system, hence why I kept alerts on, but if they’re going to be misused like this by casual Andy then I will be turning them off.

I didn’t get it. My husband got it in Central London, I’m about an hour outside and it didn’t come to me.

Only a few months ago, incoming missile alerts were pretty useful so I could pull over while they were intercepted when driving. But there were obviously extra police around abd traffic lights automatically filtered us away from the the danger so it wasnt just alerts. But we were also grown up enough not to see it as yet another conspiracy. Being directly under an interception is probably as scary as being close to an out of control fire.

DS got 3, DH got 2, DD got 1 and I got nothing whatsoever.

And I have the newest phone.

I got it twice for some reason, like they’ve identified me as a big risk

The care home where DD1 lives rang me up last night. I could hear what was their third alarm last night, during the conversation, although I wasn’t getting an alarm myself.

I would have thought that noise frightened all the residents with learning disabilities.

I can’t see the need for three alarms to people at work?

It was requested by the fire service, the poor sods who are having to fight fires partly caused by idiots with disposable BBQs etc.

As posted earlier I live near a huge expanse of land that luckily so far hasn’t gone up in flames but if a fire was to start would spread like ‘wildfire’. Our local fire brigade are just retained firefighters so already have busy lives before being asked to tackle fires and aren’t equipped to tackle major fires

I don't think most people got 3. Maybe it was just different staff members getting it at slightly different times. They'd have no idea who was at work and who wasn't or where they worked. It's always going to be an inconvenient time for some when a message is going out to millions of people.

We all did and absolutely shit a brick running around the house wondering where the noises were coming from! Thankfully the kids were already heading to the park!

No one in our household seemed to. I think I heard someone's going off when I was in a shop and they seemed a bit puzzled about what it was.

We didn't, but we are in a part of Scotland that has had the wettest summer ever.

Not sure if the bbq ban applies to the whole of the UK or just areas affected? Cannot find any definitive info anywhere online.

It would need to stop raining long enough to warrant lighting a bbq here though!

I got four them disabled it in my notifications as I was concerned it was going to keep going off through the night.

wonder if posters who turned off the alerts would have felt the same about air raid type sirens etc which are still used in other countries. We have got rid of the ability to warn people by sirens in this country

What if a wild fire started late evening/nighttime in your location and you are oblivious as either watching something on streaming or tucked up in bed. Quite useful to get an alert

I have 4 phones - personal one, and one for each of my part-time jobs - and it didn’t happen on the android phone.

I got mine only once thankfully, but saw lots of Mumsnetters that got it multiple times. Thought it wasn’t worth the risk of it waking me up and I disabled the alerts just for last night.

That’s how I feel about clean drinking water. How did everyone manage before? I’ll stick to swamp and puddle water thank you very much.

And the internet. I’ll stay clear of that. I use a talk forum that uses carrier pigeons and it’s just as good as Mumsnet any day of the week.

Been running around setting stuff on fire because of that.

DH and both DS got it multiple times - they are on one network - I am on another and only got it when I turned off wifi calling and put it on a window sill .. is it perhaps network related . But irritated as I kept my phone on a different network as coverage has historically been better here
