Did anyone else NOT get the wildfire alert?

Just curious as nobody in my house did (we don't live particularly rurally but there is no phone signal here so we rely on WiFi calling). When the system has been tested previously we bavn't had the alerts then either.

It seems a but of a flawed system if it doesn't get through. I can only assume it's due to our poor signal unless there's a different reason.

I don’t get them but I’m glad they sent it out. Idiots where I live were letting off fireworks the other night and people here have had regular bonfires for the last month . They must actually be stupid.

No bloody way am I letting the government scare me like that. I live near one of the fires. A general national alert isn't gonna save me. I know not to play with fire.

I turned mine off, I would probably turn it on in other countries. Our government seems to use them for public information messages rather than actual imminent danger.

DH, adult DS and me were together but mine was the only phone alert.

What's the point? If you're the sort of person to diligently follow these alerts you're unlikely to be having a disposable barbecue accompanied by 10 Silk Cut and some cans of Stella, anyway.

Really? So only those with phones would know to evacuate? Not old people? Or people who work nights and turn their phone off? I think if you were at risk of wildfires there would be more than a phone alert!

I had one, a couple of hours after everyone had the first.

My dh didn’t but he selected do not receive on his phone when the test happened. It relies on mobile signal so all phones (even ones from overseas) will get it if that mobile phone mast is within the area they selected to receive it, WiFi calling phones won’t receive it. Not sure where they drew the line to receive the message, it’s been wetter in some places so risk isn’t there.

I switched them off after the test alerts years ago and didn’t get any. Result, rare that something actually works.

My parents didn't, but they both have really old (brick) phones. Probably quite good really as my mum is a real worrier. I live locally to them so should get the same localised alerts if there ever were any and can keep them in the loop if appropriate.

But looking at it another way, if we have to evacuate from a wildfire, there will be fewer people clogging up the roads in front of me 🤷‍♀️
