Your E is very chic (?)

In the loo in a pub in Richmond last night. 2 young women chatting, as I was going out one of them tapped me on the back and said “your E is very chic”.
any idea what that means? I’m 63 and not particularly stylish

Both expressions are neo-bollox

Maybe they said “pee” 😂

This is the sort of ‘speak’ I have to endure with my teenagers. I’m forever having to ask them to translate it into proper words for me.

I was wearing this

Nice frock!

chaosmaker · 07/08/2026 18:32

@Mumblechum0 why didn't you ask them what they were on about?

Brodo · 07/08/2026 18:56

Your 'eels? Were you wearing chic heels?

Noodledog · 07/08/2026 18:59

I was wearing this

Can't answer your question but it's a great dress! Could you comment on how comfortable it is, as that's my primary concern these days 😁

Emptyandsad · 07/08/2026 22:12

You were in the loos. Had you just urinated with great elan? Your wee was very chic?

Nobody sane could think “aesthetic” starts with an “e”; it doesn’t even sound remotely like it does.

They may be referring to “energy”?

@BlackSwansWearDoveFeathers But surely 'aesthetic ' is indeed pronounced as starting with an 'ee' sound? Like Aesop.. Or have I been pronouncing these words wrongly all my life?

(I do know this is not the point of OP 's post!)

Promisingtree · 08/08/2026 06:52

When I click on the link to see the dress it says "50 people have viewed this in the last few hours" 😂

No, it's pronounced with an "uh".

YvieYfronts · 08/08/2026 07:20

What pub? This information will shape my reply 😁

Bathroomphilosopher · 08/08/2026 08:05

You could have just asked her what she meant OP. After all, she knows what she meant and we don’t.

You’ve been pronouncing it wrong your whole life.

Ethelspagetti · 08/08/2026 10:34

I showed this to my daughter who is 17 and she’s sure she was saying your fit is -T very chic. Meaning your outfit is lovely. T means spot on, and can be used to describe nails, body, hair, clothes etc.

pippistrelle · 05/08/2026 16:05

And someone should tell the OED that they're insane:

https://www.oed.com/dictionary/aesthetic_n?tl=true

Sorry, @pippistrelle - I've only just seen your post.

Slight difference of opinion with @ThatLilacTiger and @Bathroomphilosopher , I see! 😀

Ramallamading · 08/08/2026 18:38

I would not give a flying f**k about the opinion of someone who talks like that. I bet they call everyone babes too.

LivelyGreyShark · 09/08/2026 00:09

I asked teen DD who is my translator for teen talk and she didn't know.

Oh, interesting! I always read it as Ay-Sop. Don’t think I’ve ever had cause to say that one (do all people who have that bottle refill it?)

Aesthetic = Aas-tetick. But my accent means I speak with long vowels, so maybe that’s me. Absolutely no idea what E is though…

Daftypants · 09/08/2026 12:48

I am old and Scottish and I don’t have a clue 🤣
However ..that’s a very stylish dress

SmotherhoodandApplePie · 10/08/2026 08:21
