As a child what advert really made you want that item ? Did you get it ?

(I think all of us of a certain age wanted a Mr Frosty , I got one , it was crap ! )

My instant thought was Mr Frosty (which I got a partial share in!). Yes it was complete rubbish. Not enough strength to mush the ice and the syrup was vile! 😬

I also had a bingo machine! The type you turn with the balls inside a metal globe - only no-one ever wanted to play it with me 😂

Things I never got: Teddy Ruxpin, a Glo-worm and a children's kitchen.

What was your favourite toy from that time?

(I liked dolls: Jem and The Holograms and He-man and She-Ra along with the usual Barbie and Sindy dolls)

My favourite childhood toys were my Tamagotchi, sky dancer and Polly Pocket.

After 8’s from the fridge, left over in the morning after one of my mum’s raucous early 80’s dinner parties !

Most shocking thing you’ve ever eaten ?

I've never liked sweets; I'm a 'chocolate' girl.

I liked a Nestle Animal bar. I think you could collect the wrappers to get a full set of animals, though I never did.

The local paper shop used to sell 1/4lb bag of whatever they had in jars. I can remember having a paper bag of dark chocolate mint poppets every now and then.

Other chocolate bars I liked that were discontinued were 'Fuse' bars and 'Cabana' bars.

Did you have a school 'tuck shop'? If so, what did you used to choose?

I was horrified but I'm not sure if others would be. I didn't eat any more of it once I realised what it was..... We had booked a table for dinner at a restaurant in Malta. The menu was only written in Maltese (a sign of a good restaurant we thought.... and there were mainly Maltese people dining in there too). The waiter explained each meal to us. I chose something called 'Fenkata' which I only heard described as "stew with vegetables". I couldn't quite tell the meat type when I was eating it, gave a bit to my Husband on my fork to try.... he said "no this is something we don't usually have"..... he asked the waiter what meat it was...... it was rabbit 😔 All I could think of was Thumper from Bambi. Never again.

Back at you - worst food you've eaten?

Oh crikey lol I was brought up on rabbit stew living in the West Country ( before my mum remarried in the 80s and we then had a solid 80s freezer diet and unlimited access to the /cereal junk drawer of plenty)

I will just about eat anything but my nans neighbours boiled tripe n onions with bread n butter was awful (ate it obvs as you did back then- god the smell I remember it now)

Later living in Spain loved tripe (Callos’) as a tapa -with beers - cooked in tomato , garlic n herbs etc or the way my first DH nan prepared it as a first plate !
But man, Auntie’ dottys tripe n onions was the stuff of nightmares …shudder!

Now- I physically could not eat a cheap frozen burger or sausage - ditto a night van kebab /battered chip
ship pink sausage these days- all once lived childhood/teenage staples mind !

Will eat anything else including very random offal /body parts when abroad travelling but only fried with flavour or in some sort of broth -except chicken feet - I draw the line at those !

Fave dish your mum /dad or a loved one cooked when you were a kid ?

My Mum used to make a Beef Curry on a Saturday I think - it was ok-ish 😬. There was a lot of us so I think she just made the children what they wanted as we got home from school/college/work etc.

Do you prefer your maiden name or your married name?

I aren't married so I don't mind my surname. If I got married, I still don't think I'd change it tbh. I don't feel the need to.

What is your most favourite memory?

Crikey! I read this yesterday and still haven't thought of anything 🤷 My Husband is very thoughtful and romantic so 'surprises' are really his forte. I'm wondering if that's why I can't think of anything! I think one of the 'bigger' surprises was booking a long weekend abroad and he'd even arranged my annual leave for me! 😂 which completely astounded me!

How did your other half propose? 💍

My favourite memory is sipping a drink on a terrace at a wine bar, listening to live music overlooking Villa Crawford at Sant'Agnello in Italy. It overlooks the bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. It was the perfect evening and I remember thinking 'I wish tonight could last forever' 😊

Also, laughing so much at work one day that none of us could actually remember what had started us all off laughing 🤷 Still - no idea! We had tears streaming down our faces!

Maiden name handsdown -( mind you as a kid in a little village hated it as nobody could pronounce it at school (as my dad was from the Channel Islands lol)
I hated my first name also - which is now as common as muck but was always pronounced wrong back then too lol!!
My dream was to be called something like Louise Thomas when I was a kid ( or my alter ego if you remember a previous question -Esther Shapiro lol!!)

My 1st DH was Spanish so you don’t change surname when married there any way, and then the kids take both names as standard

For My 2nd DH, although very easy going, it meant a lot to him so I did change the old maiden name

I hate his surname with a passion and wince when I hear it now - as while it’s a mainstream albeit not common surname I cringe and as I now live back where I grew up in my teens I’m still referred to by my
maiden name and never correct them lol x

Back at you baby??

My Husband is French. I initially kept my maiden name (basically due to my career and not wanting to renew my passport 😂). Then I changed to his surname (and renewed my passport 😂) and used both surnames for work (I'm long-term separated now but we still get along amazingly). Anything goes now! Oh and I have to spell and pronounce any combination of the above so why change the habit of a lifetime!

There's a lady that works in a bank close to where I work and her surname is 'Christmas'. I always comment on it and how it must be amazing to say you are 'Mrs Christmas'. She doesn't share my enthusiasm and says she doesn't like Christmas either! What an absolute waste!!! 🧑‍🎄

Is there anything you think you could win an olympic medal in? (Not just a sport)

That’s interesting you say that as working in Children's services with a lot of West African Social worker colleagues and managers names like Christmas are a very, very common first name (not the second one I think you are referring to?) Also -
Pious/ Charity/ Hope/ Mountain/ Knowledge/ Clarity/ blessing/ Patience/Goodluck/ Friday

Not so much maybe now - ( although could still give it it a go) In my heyday I could out drink most men/ women I know

And I am fantastic at pub general knowledge pub quiz

if a gun to my head tho for an Olympic sport - out do anyone I’ve ever met on Prosecco. After the third bottle most people are on the floor. I could easily do four if a gun to the head

Fave item in your house ?

My dog or if I can’t have him then my Air Fryer it’s a game changer, hardly use my oven these days!
Talking of dogs what’s your favourite breed?

Sorry, I'm not a dog person but if I had to choose it would be a GS (which is not bred to be deformed and neurotic) or a border collie for their brains and loyalty.

My favourite item in my house is 4 embroidered pieces my grandma did in 1935 and 1936 which are framed in simple black frames.

What was your last take away?

(I always ask questions I want to answer so mine was tonight. It was chicken momo soup and a Thai jungle curry)

We’ve just started getting McDelivery where we are and I’m sat eating one now 🤣 Big Mac, fries and 4 chicken nuggets. I don’t care how crap it is, Mondays I don’t always feel like cooking. No drink because I’d already poured a large Brockmans and tonic.

Would you rather 5 brothers or 5 sisters?

The big dining table! 😂 I can use it to do arts and crafts on too. There's no way I could go back to a little table now. 😂

I'm not a dog person but I do think a Dachshund is cute.

My last takeaway was a Chinese. Chicken and Sweetcorn soup, Chicken Satay Skewers and Rice with Prawn Crackers 😋

Tell me about something you're really good at?

5 Sisters would be novel having only brothers! I remember dressing one of my brothers in a dress to pretend he was a sister. We had photos of him wearing it but my Mum threw them away as she didn't want to embarrass him! 😂

Are you sentimental?

This sounds like I’m blowing my own trumpet but I’d genuinely say I’m good at listening and helping. I’m quite straight talking but give good honest advice and will always help those I can in anyway I can (though I may chunter about it to DH because I don’t have a lot of free time)

Best thing about your home?

Not at all sentimental. I don’t get the kind of emotional attachment to objects like many do. I don’t do clutter so I don’t really mind if it’s an heirloom or something like that, if it doesn’t fit the aesthetic, it’s got to go!
