What was the last takeaway you had?

Does a Krispy Kreme doughnut count? 🍩

If you had to change your name, what would you choose?

I always fancied being called Lois πŸ˜‚ not a superman fan at all so no idea why. I don’t mind my name really, it gets shortened and I much prefer it.

Do you use a diary or calendar app or do you use one hung up in the house?

I have music on almost all day so lots and lots. I’ll say Cian Ducrot - β€˜I’ll be waiting’ because I do always hit repeat on that one.

Is there a word or phrase that you hate?(question inspired by the regular threads on MN about people hating the word snacks or picky bits πŸ˜‚)

Feed the animals, breakfast soon. A drive into the Peak District later (we live on the edge of it) farm shop, dinner somewhere. I thought today was going to be a wash out but so far so good!

2 people from primary who also went to the same high school. One lived in my street, and we were good friends, and the other I met in P1.

One from high school.

I met my best friend in uni when I was 18, and she had just started a masters. We were in a dodgy house share with the worst landlord so we did a flit to a flat in the city centre. We have been friends for over 30 years now and have been there for all of the big events in each other's lives, and also had fun and loads of holidays together.

Plans for today?

Had Fat lie in with loads tea and biscuits then x 2 Cafetière coffee pots, while scrolling and watching Great British Menu in bed

Jumped in Hot tub then made a mini fry up for DH and 2 of my sons dropping by

House jobs/ uploaded some bits to Vinted while sending DH to Aldi for a quick shop to get ahead for a roast tomo and Pizzas in the outdoor oven BH Monday

Logged onto work, while listening to a podcast for couple hours, to make life easier for myself- basically by mitigating the Tuesday carnage after a bank holiday weekend ( social worker)

Went over to DSS and his DP to see their new house, (big day) did a dump run and DH helped them put up blinds /shelves. I helped DSDIL organise kitchen and unpack boxes

Later Left the love birds to it and headed to my DSIS who had cooked a b’day meal for our DM add lovely Step dad with my other DSIS and their partners.
We stuffed our faces, drank loads wine and had a couple hands of cards.

Home by 9.30, jumped in hot tub again for a bit and now watching YouTube planning our itinerary for going away this time next week.

All in all a nice day tbf x

Would you rather take your chances coming across a shark or a bear ?

Lavendersong · 30/08/2026 00:05

Just back home from a night out.

That's very detailed! You must be an excellent Social Worker!

🐻 I'll take my chance against a bear. I can run faster than I can swim. Plus seeing blood in sea water would turn my stomach πŸ˜‚ There's always an off-chance the bear will be like 'Gentle Ben' too 😁 I don't know of any friendly sharks.

I can only expect you to answer this one!.... Worst intimate moment? 😁

Oh there are lots of words and sayings I don't like:
'Sweetie', 'Duck', 'Duckie', 'Sorry not Sorry', 'Holibobs', 'Mucus', 'Balls in the air', 'Circle back on that', 'Gaslight', 'Smashed', 'It lives rent-free in my head', '6/7', 'On the pop', 'Havin' a sherbet?', 'Team Building Away Day'..... 😁 There will be more!

I like to think I get the job done and even do a bit of good here and there !

Easy one - Up the bum decades ago -hands down most hideous intimate moment of my life and never again
each to their own of course , but not for me- for love nor money lol x

I love your openness and honesty! You're so rare!

As a child it would have been my Dad but he was always at work. My Mum and I's relationship has dramatically changed as we've aged. Not for the better either.

Worst suggestions off top
of my head hands down

Up the bum -decades ago -never again

To join Slimming World - bizarre only went once - never had a group experience quite like it -not for me

Encouraged to apply to do a PhD - rocked up to first part of interview and realised that not only had a peaked doing a Masters, I was so out of my depth it was embarrassing even being in the room. I felt I had been set up in a practical joke / I had hugely overestimated own ability and probably misunderstood my tutors suggestions about continuing in academia by selectively hearing x

Paddle boarding- no balance no co ordination , no interest lol

Fave advert/s of all time - ( mine are the Ackrington Stanley - who are they??’ and the Guiness /horse /waves beach one)

Have you ever been asked to leave anywhere?

Yes a couple years ago was thrown out of pub in Cambridge.
we were a couple of minutes late for last serving of food as kitchen had to close early or suchlike.
It was a big birthday pub crawl, about 14 of us including my parents and all the adult
kids /partners etc
My BIL who had had like all of us been day drinking got silly and challenged this making a song and dance to the poor waiters asking to see the manager etc.
My DSIS then started arguing with him for being a knob head and his DD then got cross with her, whereupon DM then told her to keep her nose out etc etc,
It all got a bit like an episode of β€˜shameless’ (minus the head-butting thankfully)and we were asked to leave.
The next day BIL went back and apologised and took an M&S Hamper with a handwritten card for the waiter - most middle class apology I’ve ever heard of and we still laugh about it today.

BIL is a bit of a twat when in the sauce ,but he’s our twat and generally stays out of the booking side of eating out now lol as is mercilessly reminded of the incident on at least a weekly basis.

I also got kicked out of a pub in Hounslow about 32 years ago arguing with my then boyfriend who actually pushed me over of if I recall correctly. We were both pissed and high -I went bananas and subsequently got physically thrown out into the street on my own. I think I accepted a lift from a random couple of guys home, snogged on before being sick out the car window

The good old 90s…

Favourite Christmas present so far in your life?

OP posts:
ilovesushi · 30/08/2026 12:59

Favourite Christmas present ever was a blonde haired Sindy Doll in a ballerina outfit. I was about 4 or 5 years old. The shoes had tiny criss cross plastic ribbons like real ballet shoes. Later I got a dark haired Sindy with a horse who I adored equally but that was for a birthday. I don't think anything could top those Sindys.

What has been your worst restaurant experience where out of politeness you felt forced to eat something you loathe? Or would you just reject it/ leave it?
Mine was being taken out for a business lunch in Italy to a restaurant specialising in all things Mortadella. Hate the stuff. Ate my way through numerous courses of it. I was in my twenties. I don't think I'd do that now.

I can speak some French, a little Italian and a little Spanish - just for fun/holiday! My Husband (we're separated) is French.
I used to be reasonably good at speaking Italian but 'if you don't use it you lose it' I've found. I also have a 'Learn to speak Mandarin Chinese' book on my bookcase; flicked through it maybe 3 times! I must have been feeling radical that day!

Do you have any books that you haven't read?

πŸ˜‚ I love reading your replies!

I feel like I keep talking about cooking a Roast Dinner πŸ™„ so one of my other favourites to cook that's nothing like that is an Indian curry. I gave up trying to replicate a Chinese dish years ago - it's never going to happen. I do have 'waves' of baking cakes too. Apparently I make a good coffee cake and a good lemon cake!
