upupandaway45 · 23/07/2026 18:04

There’s a fun trend going on on TikTok atm and I’ve been thinking about what my five would be.

My five.

Eating out/takeaways

Botox

Disneyland paris

My tv bed (so much money but worth every penny)

Tumble dryers

What would yours be?

Love this - the things that really add value and are entirely selfish that add joy to my life are:
Weekly cleaner
Mounjaro
Moisturiser for body, face, hair - everything has dried out in my 40s
Meals out with a good bottle of wine
My favourite ring

RamblinRosie · 24/07/2026 02:10

DL gym membership - love the classes, kids activities, indoor and outdoor pool, spa, soft play, coffee in the club room - adds so much to my health and quality of life and ours is a lower tier so not horribly expensive
Sage coffee machine and beans delivered from local coffee roasters - our home coffee is now better than most local cafes/the big chains and cheaper
Kindle - read it daily, has allowed me to keep up with reading whilst having young kids (backlit so can read in the dark)
Good quality food from local farm shop
Holidays with family

sashh · 24/07/2026 07:32

My echo dot, I'm disabled so not having to get up to turn a light off makes life so much easier.

Ned -that's my name for my mobility scooter, it has given me much more independence.

My Kindles - yes plural, I have one at the side of my bed and one in the living room, when I was working I had three. It is fantastic reading in bed at night on one and the same book at the same place opening on the other.

Watches that do not need a battery either eco drive or automatic.

My clogs. I have had a series of falls so I bought some clogs that are actually meant to be used in kitchens so they are non slip, I've had a couple of trips but have stayed on my feet.

Sorry to derail the thread, but there's no evidence that generic annual health screens are helpful, and they may do more harm than good. See the Cochrane Review on this subject:

https://www.cochrane.org/evidence/CD009009_general-health-checks-reducing-illness-and-mortality

If you're worried about your health, I'd recommend actually seeing a doctor face-to-face to discuss your concerns so you can have tailored testing as appropriate. If you're struggling to see your NHS GP, a private GP may be able to help. I'm a doctor and I don't have annual health screening myself, and I don't offer it or recommend it to my patients.

I get an health check through my private health insurance via work every couple of years which is a full two hour session checking everything including blood tests, smear test, mammogram, ECG, etc and spend time with a doctor discussing any health concerns etc. they also follow up with any ongoing concerns I have no idea how much it would cost if I had to pay out of pocket but it’s worth doing for peace of mind.

For me -

sauna and swimming outdoors - in fact anything outdoors (walking, camping etc)

Velvetandleather · 24/07/2026 08:06

Ooh interesting one.

  1. mounjaro, I don’t like the cost and I genuinely think it should be lower and more widely available. But it’s worth it.
  2. victoria Beckham the drops foundation , seriously pricey, but absolutely worth every penny, I’m in my fifties and my skin looks amazing when I put it on, gently glowy, blurred and perfect, I bought some for my daughter in her 20s and it’s the same on her.
  3. good quality clothes, love me and em particularly, but also buy a lot in sales and vinted, new with tags. But at full price, still totally worth it.
  4. good quality food, particularly meat. The cheap stuff has clearly been messed with in some way and doesn’t taste the same
  5. good holidays with a great hotel. Always price, but so worth the indulgence.
TwinklyRoseTurtle · 24/07/2026 08:07

RedStripeLeaf · 24/07/2026 08:15

This is too hard, so I've limited myself to one room of the house (admittedly, one where I spend a lot of time - my home office).

  1. Thick leather desk mat.
  2. Decent pen that feels just right in the hand.
  3. Large capacity mug, with attached joyful memories (one bought on a particularly nice holiday).
  4. Good office chair.
  5. A healthy houseplant in a planter that looks just right for the plant and the room.
ThatAgileLimeCat · 24/07/2026 08:35

Good theatre seats
All weather garden furniture
Private transfers
Shutters
Buying additional annual leave

LittleLlama · 24/07/2026 09:44
  1. Frozen onions (no tears)
  2. Good quality bed/mattress
  3. Wide fitting comfortable shoes
  4. City breaks
  5. M&S good quality underwear and thermals (in the winter).
CypressMoon · 24/07/2026 09:53

Really good mattresses. We spend roughly 1/3 of our lives in bed.

Cashmere sweaters. Life changing for someone with very sensitive skin that itches like crazy at all other wool.

Days out and holidays. I never regret spending money on gigs, theatre tickets, weekends away, holidays abroad, dinner with all the adult DC and their partners gathered round. They stand out as the best days of the year.

Books.

Fresh coffee. It's not really an expense, as a bag costs about the same as a single take away coffee in a cafe, and lasts all week. But I haven't drunk instant in years.

Purplecatshopaholic · 24/07/2026 10:00

Ooh, good one.
My pets
My iPad
Botox
My shoes
My hairdresser

craycray431 · 24/07/2026 10:22

-1000 thread sheets
-Le Cresuet pot and frypan - cooks food sooo much evenly and better
-Good leather shoes - I have awful bone-y strange shaped feet so need good shoes - cheap ones just wreck my feet
-Fresh pasta
-Aesop hand cream and Lush lip balm and perfume
-Proper good quality warm/waterproof coats. Most of my clothes are 2nd hand (except for my shoes -see above) but it really is worth shelling out for decent woollens/proper waterproof coats for myself - and kids. Nothing worse than cheap 'showerproof' ones that still leak and constantly smell!

  1. Raised flower bed, my back loves it.
  2. Micro bladed eyebrows, I look like a skull without them.
  3. Motorbike, I love everything about it. That and my protective clothing is ££££!
  4. Kindle, I haven’t been reading much lately, but I still love it.
  5. Artwork, I’m not very arty, but the pieces I have are very special and beautiful.

A skull tickled me 😆
