Can you recommend a really gripping podcast?

very grateful for recommendations for gripping, distracting podcasts that will get me through five hours.

Roots of Evil about the Black Dahlia murder. One of the strangest crime podcasts I’ve ever listened to.

The teachers pet and the teachers trial

Going back a bit but S-town is a wild ride. I still think about it.

Paradise - it's a BBC one, but it also comes up if I search it on my Apple app.

Noble on Spotify. It starts with a man in America who is delivering gas and realises there are dead bodies around him.

Sweet Bobby is easy to listen to but I found I got very frustrated with the story

The birth keepers podcast by the guardian. It’s an investigation into why women choose free birth. Although TW, it talks a lot about birth trauma and baby loss

The Gift is really interesting look at DNA testing and how this interest in looking at our genetics has at times revealed information that has turned peoples lives upside down

13 Minutes to the Moon (the first season) about the Apollo 11 mission is phenomenal podcasting (or radio, might have been made for radio first). Very very good stuff.

RTÉ Documentary on One have some good series, interesting stories, well presented, also some one-offs.

I'm really enjoying Noiser's series Real Dictators. Very informative potted histories of the rise of leaders such as Idi Amin, Bokassa, Pol Pot and (interestingly) General Hideki Tojo in Japan - and of the social/economic/historical circumstances that led to their rise. I found this series courtesy of trailers in Noiser's much tackier (but still enjoyable) Real Survival Stories

I REAALLY hate the nauseating conversational faux-cosy style of so many podcasts. so I'd love to hear of more scripted ones like these.

Paradise is a good shout. I also liked Death in Ice Valley.

Central Intelligence on BBC Sounds is a good history of the CIA.

Oh yeah @SabrinaThwaite Death in Ice Valley is great. So atmospheric.

Tortoise Investigates have done several different series investigating some really intriguing stories (they also did The Foundling which was gripping).

I agree with what a PP said about Sweet Bobby though - I struggled to understand how such an incredibly intelligent woman couldn’t see all the red flags!

Another one here who found Sweet Bobbie frustrating to listen to. There were SO many red flags…. I just can’t believe her story.

Dr Death - series 1. It follows medical malpractice cases. Thoroughly gripping if you can stomach it, pretty gruesome.

This was incredible, and Who Killed Emma, Muder in the Masai, and Gina about Gina Rinehard, all riveting. Of course the original mouth dropping one the Teachers Pet, my partner is an identical twin and I found this mind blowing
