How much did your wedding cost, and what was the day like?

How much did you spend on your wedding?Was it big or small? What decade was it? What sort of a day did you have, and did you have a nice time? Did you have a honeymoon, and was this part of the budget?

I am not even engaged, just nosy.

We got married in 2022. Had a church wedding then a barn venue reception with a bbq and then an evening buffet for 140 people. We spent just over £6k in total

Early 2010s and cost probably around £20k. 60 guests at exclusive hire venue. Plus we had a separate registry office ceremony in the morning because we had a humanist wedding. All the usual, drinks reception, 3 course meal, live band, cash bar in the evening, cake plus evening food and some accommodation for the weekend.

It was a lovely day and so many friends and family have told me it was the best wedding they’ve ever been to and they borrowed some ideas when they planned theirs. But I’m an only child from a well off family and I didn’t pay for a penny of it. No way would I spend that much of my own money on a wedding. My family didn’t even notice it was gone. But £20k is an awful lot of money!

We went off to a rural self catering holiday cottage in Spain for our honeymoon. We mostly paid for that ourselves, which was maybe £1500-2000 for about 10 days.

£400, 2024 and was easily forgettable.

1999, at hotel with registrar and sit down meal for 32 guests. I can't remember exactly how much it cost, but no more than £3000. It was all pretty low-key. My non-wedding dress came from Monsoon and cost about £70, it never occurred to me that it was quite normal to pay someone to do my makeup, hair, nails! Also, I'd never heard of such things as wedding favours etc so these were all savings. We did have great food, including a lovely cake, lots of flowers, a photographer and the hotel grounds to spill out into on a hot August day. We didn't have an evening do, dancing etc (that would have been a nightmare for us both!) and we left for our honeymoon at about 8 p.m. We've now been married almost 27 years, and we celebrated our silver wedding by spending a few nights at the hotel where we got married. If I was doing it all again, I would opt for immediate family at registry office followed by a meal at a local restaurant.
