How much did you spend on your wedding? Was it big or small? What decade was it? What sort of a day did you have, and did you have a nice time? Did you have a honeymoon, and was this part of the budget?

I am not even engaged, just nosy.

small,Covid times wedding.did not enjoy it.always wanted a small destination wedding..regret not doing it..those who attended were nervous with restrictions, and i guess did not want to be there.day was sadly not special..,castle,fab images, dress, flowers cake everything was perfect but not a good day in hindsight...definitely did not feel loved or special by the chosen few who attended.but have an amazing husband so,,i know it makes him sad that i did not enjoy the day...was yelled at, told they were bored..was awful really, had to get therapy after it.....a huge issue i have worked on a lot to let go...i never mentioned my dissapointment to anyone...but i felt it and still do tbh.

Got married in 2009. We spent 35k for 65 people. I still look back and think it was the best wedding! Loved every minute. Goes so quickly. We went on honeymoon the day after and not part of the wedding budget.

HolidayPlanningAgain · 21/07/2026 23:30

2007 - 12k on the “perfect wedding” horrible, stressful, way over the top, hated it!
2021 - £500! amazing, so many laughs, loved every second!

start of 2009, was cheap and small as we had it cheap and small we were able to have a nice venue and it was small as we have very little family in our life, I did not enjoy it as I felt my mum took too much control and I would have preferred to have eloped. Even hated my dress, it all felt rushed somehow. 1 day but the rest of life time married, so that is all that is important at the end of the day.

Cheeseandolivesplease · 21/07/2026 23:34

Never added it up but not a lot. We had 17 guests and it was absolutely perfect ❤️

honeymoon not part of budget we went travelling in the highlands of Scotland. We are Scottish lol.

Whatweread · 21/07/2026 23:47

Late 2010s. About 600 for the registry and meal - just 10 of us.

Then about 35k for 450 or so people but that was abroad. Great day would definitely do it the same way again.

Honeymoon was around 4k.

TowerOfWashing · 21/07/2026 23:54

Wedding cost 10k which was half the Scottish average at the time. Priority was a hotel with a big dance floor. 100 guests at the wedding/meal and another 100 at night.

Dress was a sample (as it was the perfect dress but the style was discontinued) so it was a bargain (£600 including all cleaning and alterations).I found perfect shoes in Next for only £20!

My mum paid for the band who were brilliant and did a mix of ceilidh and covers. Finished off the night with bacon rolls!

shumbuffle · 21/07/2026 23:54

Around £25k in the mid 2010’s - it was a fab day but in hindsight, I’d invite less of DM’s friends & family to reduce the cost associated with numbers, and I shouldn’t have become quite so obsessed with things like table cloths, the decorative plates that sit beneath plates, and favourites etc. as that all added cost.

InfoSecInTheCity · 21/07/2026 23:57

wedding was $120
dress was £200
flights and hotel was £1200

We went to Vegas for 5 nights and got married just me and DH on the 2nd day. It was fabulous, we wanted to be married but had no desire for a wedding.

CormorantWings · 21/07/2026 22:55

My parents paid for mine so I don't know.

Didn’t you have a budget, kept an eye on the costs?

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 22/07/2026 00:51

2023 and about £3000. We got married in the registry office and then had a private room in a nice restaurant. 12 people total and then we all stayed in a nearby hotel and had champagne to end the night. We could have saved a big wedding but we just wanted to be married. We booked it 6 weeks before, I wouldn’t change a thing it was such a lovely day.

SowWhatNow · 22/07/2026 00:53

10yrs ago, about £24k.

Beautiful barn venue, homemade decor and favours (by me!), 100 day guests and 29 more evening. Open bar. 3 course meal. Canapés. Lawn games. Live band. Photo booth. Photographer. Sunshine, cloud and rain!

Only thing missing was a grandparent who was too ill to attend. Gave my bouquet to said grandparent when we visited them in hospital in our wedding attire a couple of days later. They died about a week later but such a lovely memory of their face seeing us arrive in gown and suit!

VerityUnreasonble · 22/07/2026 00:54

Maybe 3.5k ish, bit more than 15 years ago.

It was a perfect day. Most of the cost went on the venue which was very special to us. 20 people, stayed for the weekend. Included drinks reception and sit down meal. It was relaxed and good fun. It was November but gloriously sunny all weekend. Had a week abroad for our honeymoon (I can't remember if this was included in the cost). I'd love to do it all over again but I'm quite attached to DH.

junebirthdaygirl · 22/07/2026 01:54
  1. A church wedding followed by a sit down mmel in a hotel in lreland for 120 guests . The whole wedding cost about 3000. We had saved the money but at the last minute my parents surprised us and paid for everything which was totally unexpected and left us with a nice saving amount added to by some generous cash gifts alongside the saucepans, dinner sets and lamps! We honeymooned in an isolated cottage in very rural lreland, a spot that continues to be a favourite with us to this day. My dress, l remember cost 90 pounds. I did go to a hairdresser but did my own make up .
mondaytosunday · 22/07/2026 01:55

I got married in 2002. Central London in a historical venue. We had 120 guests and it was a child free black tie wedding. I think we spent £25-30k. My DH paid for most and my parents contributed £10k. I had a MOH (my sister) and two young attendants who’s grandmother took home after the drinks bit. I had a non traditional dress designed for me (£1250) and my DH had a tux custom made lined with a deep red to match our wedding colour. Me and my MOH had our hair and make up done professionally. We had a string quartet for the ceremony and a tribute band after the dinner. Open bar. All guests were there from ceremony to the end. It was fabulous! Our honeymoon probably cost another £10k. My husband was a very generous man and wanted me to have the wedding I wanted - it was his second so he would have been happy with a much smaller celebration.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/07/2026 02:28

00s £3000, not including honeymoon.

Wedding cake was a gift.
Flowers done at cost price.
Mates rates photography.

Church hall buffet, 100 guests, no evening reception.

We needed to buy a flat. Put money towards that. Flat lasted longer than the marriage.

OneLimePombear · 22/07/2026 02:45

Around 4.5k 30 years ago. Nice registry office, 40 for wedding breakfast in a hotel, another 35 in the evening for dancing and buffet.
I had a lovely dress which cost £500 including all the accessories.
Cake -£100
Flowers-£100
No bridesmaids or hen do (my choice)
My PIL’s paid 1k towards the wedding.
We went on a honeymoon which cost another £1500 and my sibling paid £500 towards it.

Ruthietuthie · 22/07/2026 03:18

Two weddings, same husband, 2012.
First, the "paperwork" wedding: a simple ceremony, just saying our vows, eight of our closest friends, then took everyone out for lunch. I had a nice bouquet and wore a deep pink silk dress. A good friend took photographs. Probably $3,000 all in as the lunch was nice and my dress was expensive.
Second, the party: a gigantic evening wedding in a beautiful Ottoman palace on the Bosphorus in Istanbul (Çırağan Palace Kempinski), around 1400 guests, more white flowers than you can imagine, a small string orchestra for dancing then Romany violinists and drummers playing traditional music. We arrived and left in a boat. It was AMAZING. I have no idea how much it cost as the tradition is that the man's family pay, which my fantastic in-laws kindly did.
I loved both days, although they couldn't have been more different.

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 22/07/2026 03:22

£12k. Early 2010s in London. Sit down meal for 90, with 120 in the evening. Biggest cost was venue, excellent sit down meal and band. Everything else was budget - handmade stationery / favours, cake, dress, photographer.

Vanillaicelatte · 22/07/2026 03:45

My son is getting married next month I think it’s cost around 20k ish
this is for 85 in the day and another 50 in the evening
Both set of parents gave 7.k.
It’s a hotel based wedding which is absolutely gorgeous
hotel threw in quite a few freebies as well

I’m also paying for their honeymoon which is around 4k

Crushed23 · 22/07/2026 03:51

Mine’s coming up!

Registry office, 2 guests/witnesses.

Dress. Jacket for DP. Hair and make up. Special jewellery. Wedding perfume.

Champagne afternoon tea afterwards.

We haven’t added it all up, but maybe around $4,000 altogether?

NoArmaniNoPunani · 22/07/2026 03:57

30k in 2013. Absolute waste of money

JackandVictor · 22/07/2026 04:04

£2700 in 2011. Church wedding, reception in church hall, asked family for help rather than gifts, MIL made the cake, friends made favours and another was the DJ. My mum paid for the alcohol and I bought my dress/bridesmaids etc from eBay. Was a good day, most of the money was spend on catering (£1k).
