How do you make your banana sandwich??

How do you do yours...? Do you slice/chop your banana or mash it up in the sandwich?

Me.
White bread, butter, mash it on.

Sometimes have it with other fillings - like peanut butter, Marmite, Nutella.

But always white bread.

I don't mind mixing sweet and savoury, but I know that's not for everyone!

Any other good ones I'm missing out on?

Two slices of lightly toasted but cooled wholemeal, butter, mashed banana and a couple of grinds of salt. Really want one now but trying not to eat bread

pavementpolice · 05/07/2026 22:58

Cheap white bread, salted butter thickly spread and banana sliced lengthways

Raisin bread, sliced banana. Buttered on outside, sprinkle with brown sugar. Toast in Breville toaster.

Crunchy toast - homemade bread (some sort of wholemeal base with rye, barley or oatbran). Butter or peanut butter. Banana cut in half and each half then cut lengthwise, sprinkled with cinnamon.

What @Chewbecca said.
I once had a banana sandwich every day for a year.
Now it’s more like once a week.

Plain bread, not pan, proper butter and sliced banana.

It has never occurred to me to put banana in a sandwich. I have it on toast occasionally with honey.

It's not exactly a million miles away from what you have.... Be daring try it one day :D

I love bananas. I love bread (with or without butter). I love honey. I love sugar. But never, ever, would I combine them together. I didn't even know this was a thing. I can't decide if I'm disgusted or outraged or what 😫

Well next time you have lunch....get yourself a couple slice of the bread you love, put some butter ion as you normally would.

Then grab a banana, slice a wee bit off, put it on the corner of the bread you were already going to have, top it to complete a sandwich, and try the bite sized bit.

If you like it, pull sandwich apart and put the rest of the banana in.... If you don't. Put something else in and eat the rest of the banana separately....

I used to work near a sandwich shop and my regular order was a ham and banana sandwich - proper thick cut ham, a just-ripe banana in one of their big wholemeal rolls. I always got a sideways look from the other side of the counter, but it was gorgeous!

JohnBullshit · 06/07/2026 12:00

Has to be toasted. A tiny amount of salted butter, mash the banana onto two slices and return the toast to the grill to warm the banana before putting together like a sandwich and cutting diagonally. I like it with tomato juice, but that might be a step too far for some.

Nice new white farmhouse bread spread with butter, strawberry jam, sliced banana. Yum.

Tonissister · 06/07/2026 13:38

Either mashed as an open sandwich on very crusty bread, white or brown, sometimes with butter or honey depending on mood. Or sliced white, sliced banana, real butter.

MadamWhippy · 06/07/2026 13:49

Toasted Wholemeal or multiseed bread. Banana can be sliced or mashed but key ingredient English mustard - sounds weird but really works

YetAnotherAlias62 · 06/07/2026 14:10

Brown or granary sliced bread
No butter but a thinnish smear of honey on both slices of bread
Banana sliced longwise
And - if I'm really hungry - I slice a few dates and squish them on top of the banana 😀

BobbysDazzler · 06/07/2026 14:12

White or a really nutty/seedy wholemeal. Proper salty butter and I slice the banana on but then mash it after I've sliced it.....

Know what I'm having for lunch now!

MinxyMew · 06/07/2026 15:59

Mashed banana with plain cottage cheese, in a white bread sandwich with lots of salty butter

trainedopossum · 06/07/2026 16:02

Sour, savoury bread (sourdough, pumpernickel, rye etc) toasted on one side, with thick, cold butter on the toasted side and ripe banana sliced lengthwise on top. Open sandwich, no extra bread.
I need to have one now but I’m lacking 2/3 of the ingredients.

White bread buttered on the outside. Peanut butter and sliced banana. Toasted in the airfryer.

I think you might have just changed my life forever. In a good way. Only in a good good way.

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 06/07/2026 16:06

I’m picky about what sandwich requires what bread (like a bacon one has to be Warburtons toastie). A banana one has to be homemade sourdough, generous salted butter, circles of banana and then drizzled with the squeezy peanut butter

edit to add the sourdough must be toasted

Friendlygingercat · 06/07/2026 17:01

Generously buttered, real pure butter, no oil mixed in.
Carefully select your banana, just ripe is perfect; it must not be mushy.
Slice into rounds a touch thicker than a £1 coin.
Arranged carefully in rows on the bread.
Squish the top slice down quite firmly.
Cut into 4 triangles.

This is how I like my banana sandwiches. No sugar just the taste of the banana.

Whoops75 · 06/07/2026 17:03

Sliced and with Taytos

CrushingOnRubies · 06/07/2026 18:17

Cheap white bread, butter. When mashing the banana add a little bit of white sugar ( a teaspoon or so) . Adds a little texture and it’s easier to mush the banana due to the friction involved. Love a banana sandwich
