How do you make your banana sandwich??

How do you do yours...? Do you slice/chop your banana or mash it up in the sandwich?

Me.
White bread, butter, mash it on.

Sometimes have it with other fillings - like peanut butter, Marmite, Nutella.

But always white bread.

I don't mind mixing sweet and savoury, but I know that's not for everyone!

Any other good ones I'm missing out on?

White bread, light scraping of butter, sliced banana, tiny pinch of sugar, slightly squish with a fork then add top slice of bread. Cut into triangles to avoid sticky banana cheeks!

Triangle?

Fancy.

Has to be mashed, no sugar, no butter, nothing but banana. Preferably in a crusty well fired roll.

YorkieTheRabbit · 05/07/2026 17:16

Don’t mind whether it’s white, wholemeal, sourdough bread, but it has to be decent bread, plenty of butter and sliced banana for a sandwich.
Mashed banana goes on toast, had that for lunch yesterday 😋

I haven't actually eaten one in years. But when last did, it would have been sliced banana and strawberry jam, no butter though.
I used to be a masher but I switched to slicing as nicer with the jam.

Top tip - never make one for a packed lunch. It will not go the distance and you will have a ball of goo instead of a sandwich!

Winefride · 05/07/2026 17:23

I did not know a banana sandwich existed. I have to now re-evaluate my education and lifestyle choices.

MabelAnderson · 05/07/2026 17:24

Any bread, the chunkier the better. Cold butter, banana sliced lengthwise. Peanut butter or nutella sometimes in place of butter. Yum .

GentleSheep · 05/07/2026 17:26

In the days when I was able to eat wheat, I'd have wholemeal bread, mash the banana and heavily sprinkle with cinnamon. Job done!

Ipsevenenabibas · 05/07/2026 17:28

I love bananas. I love bread (with or without butter). I love honey. I love sugar. But never, ever, would I combine them together. I didn't even know this was a thing. I can't decide if I'm disgusted or outraged or what 😫

Choconuttolata · 05/07/2026 17:29

Not banana but same family, so I think this still counts.

Hardo bread toasted with lots of butter, fried plantain, Encona hot pepper sauce.

longtompot · 05/07/2026 17:33

Sliced, either long strips or rounds when on peanut butter with a sprinkle of salt on the banana, or mashed onto the cold then buttered toast, sprinkle of salt then a slice of ham on top.

You must try one. White or wholemeal is fine with butter and the banana must be sliced. I don't know who these heathens are who mash their bananas or toast their bread but both of these things are very wrong.

JustLookAround · 05/07/2026 17:37

Sourdough or wholemeal bread, almond butter, sliced banana and chia seeds.

SwedishEdith · 05/07/2026 17:42

Wholemeal meal or seed bread or similar.
Butter one side, crunch peanut butter on the other.
Crushed the banana onto the buttered side.
Put together and eat.
Regular WFH lunch for me.
Toasted flaked almonds sound like a great addition though.

dogisadream · 05/07/2026 17:44

Any bread is fine if it is very fresh and very soft. Butter generously then add many slices of banana.
Mashing the banana is all sorts of wrong

The only time I've ever encountered banana sandwiches was when I was working in a care home kitchen, where many of the residents couldn't handle anything that involved a lot of chewing...!

😄

SwedishEdith · 05/07/2026 17:45

Sliced banana pennies are for having with custard.

AnonSugar · 05/07/2026 18:01

I’m alarmed by the number of people ruining it by mashing or adding other ingredients.

Bread, butter and sliced banana only.

ForkHandlesNotFourCandles · 05/07/2026 18:16

I’ve loved banana sandwiches since I was small

White bread
buttered
Slice the banana length ways
yummy

mightymam · 05/07/2026 20:27

Wholemeal bread toasted, lots of salted butter and sliced banana rings- eaten as an open single slice, not folded over! Yummm!

YerMasYerDa · 05/07/2026 20:37

Two thick slices of toasted, buttered wholemeal or multigrain bread. Banana sliced. I feel like one now!

I hate mashed banana because it reminds me of baby food🤢 But I do use it in porridge.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/07/2026 20:46

Toasted white bread. Thin slice banana one layer. Squish it. Triangles. We call them Ninny Toasties in our house 🍌

user293948849167 · 05/07/2026 20:54

I can’t stand it mashed

I do real butter, bread sometimes toasted), sliced banana and sometimes a sprinkle of cinnamon

MsGreying · 05/07/2026 21:10

Jam and peanut butter with thinly sliced banana.

On buttered white bread.

Husband has honey or white sugar on his.

MidnightMeltdown · 05/07/2026 21:23

It has never occurred to me to put banana in a sandwich. I have it on toast occasionally with honey.

ForkHandlesNotFourCandles · 05/07/2026 21:33

Think I might make a round of these for the England match later
I just can’t stop thinking about them now 😋
