Preferring the weather relative to your birth month

Let me explain.
My mum has a theory that I'm a fan of hot weather due to being born in August.
My brother was born in December and he cannot tolerate any sort of high temperatures, therefore she believes you'll always have a preference for hot or cold weather depending on the season you were born in.
That's her anecdata based on a pool of two 😆

What's your take on my mum's theory?
Absolute bunkum or a grain of truth in it?

Yes I adore October and was born then and dh loves summer and was born in summer. I’ve always thought the same

almondflake · 23/06/2026 19:09

I love the summer and heat , I hate being cold . I was born in July 64 and my mum has always told me that it was the hottest day of the year so maybe there is a little truth in it .
my daughter and son were born in February and September and are not really very keen on the heat .

limetrees32 · 23/06/2026 19:09

January .
Hate hot weather.
Love cold murky days.

ifonly4 · 23/06/2026 19:12

I was born in May, DH in March, and DD in August. All of us prefer Spring, with Autumn a second. DD is particular can't cope with it.

darksided · 23/06/2026 19:13

I’m a Christmas baby and loathe the cold (not a fan of Christmas either truth be told) but I love the heat and sunshine!

WearyAuldWumman · 23/06/2026 19:13

I agree with your mum, @DebbieTheCat .

ifonly4 · 23/06/2026 19:14

Just read almondflake's comment and DD was actually born on the hottest day of the year as well, and like I said above as an adult she really struggles with it.

SpaceAngel1999 · 23/06/2026 19:15

I’m a December baby and I absolutely love the hot weather!

Samewrinklesnewname · 23/06/2026 19:15

I‘M July and totally solar powered-absolutely love and thrive in the heat, but dh is deep winter and also loves the heat

Yourhairbobblesarefantastic · 23/06/2026 19:15

My birthday is June. I hate the hot weather. Give me Spring or Autumn anyway. I'd even prefer Winter esp at the moment. Your mum needs more stats. She needs to go out with a clipboard, maybe not today though.......😂

tinyviolinforme · 23/06/2026 19:18

Oh I thought this said preferring the wealthier relative to your birth mum and it was going to be about the babies that were switched and the rich couple kept both.

TheIdlerReturns · 23/06/2026 19:24

Born in Autumn. Love Autumn. My favourite season.

user293948849167 · 23/06/2026 19:36

Nope definitely not, born in summer and hate the heat. DH born late October and loves when it’s warm

cramptramp · 23/06/2026 19:37

Bunkum. I’m a summer baby and can’t stand the heat.

Cetera · 23/06/2026 19:37

God no, early Feb birthday and I hate it. So depressing every year. I live for the sunny months!

Jk987 · 23/06/2026 19:38

February and love the warm weather!

MadisonAvenue · 23/06/2026 19:40

No. I was born in July and I hate heat. I’m counting the days until Autumn.

Anonymousical · 23/06/2026 19:40

Totally disproven with DH and I - I was born in the middle of summer but hate the heat, DH was born in deep winter but can't stand cold.

user5683926547 · 23/06/2026 19:49

I was born in the ‘76 heatwave and loathe any sort of cold so its true for me!

DebbieTheCat · 23/06/2026 19:51

Thanks for all the responses everyone.
I told mum about this thread and she thinks it's hilarious, especially @Yourhairbobblesarefantastic saying she needs to go out with a clipboard 😂
(She's 89)

@7238SM we ask her that EVERY time she brings this theory up, and she sort of gazes into the distance, and starts muttering about Auntie Joanie who emigrated to Australia "back in the 80s", and how she was always "an awkward bugger" - which makes zero sense and means nothing at all doesn't even answer our question 🤷‍♀️

(She, [and we!] knows it's all in jest, it's just something she always comes out with, whenever it's especially hot or cold)

I’m the opposite OP. Born in July and hate the heat and much prefer the cooler months. Though I do love the long daylight hours and bright summer days,

HazeyjaneIII · 23/06/2026 19:53

Sorry Op's mum...born at the end of June, hate Summer and hot weather and count down the days until I can wear cardigans and big boots❄️

Delatron · 23/06/2026 19:57

I was born at the beginning of the 1976 heatwave - I like warm and sunny weather but not over 30 in this country anymore. But maybe that is age and the fact I now have a dog.

Anything up to 30 is good though and I hate our winters here.

Hmmm... 🤔

<Goes off to check birth certificate...>

I’ve often thought the same, OP. I love autumn and winter (November baby), my summer friends love heat. Clearly not empirical evidence 😊
