Preferring the weather relative to your birth month

Let me explain.
My mum has a theory that I'm a fan of hot weather due to being born in August.
My brother was born in December and he cannot tolerate any sort of high temperatures, therefore she believes you'll always have a preference for hot or cold weather depending on the season you were born in.
That's her anecdata based on a pool of two 😆

What's your take on my mum's theory?
Absolute bunkum or a grain of truth in it?

No. I was born in December and much prefer Spring/early autumn weather.

342524u · 23/06/2026 17:02

Loool! Well I used to love summer, now, like a lot of older people I really don't like hot weather, so I think it's more to do with age.

However, I'm not dismissing all time-of-the-year influences, on, say, personality, cos it's possible temperature might affect you more when you're an baby or something. Or not.

SourdoughSally · 23/06/2026 17:04

Absolute bollocks. I hate the cold and was born in Winter

I totally believe in that, I was born in the harsh winter of 1962 - almost as bad as 1963 and there was heavy snow when I came back from the hospital in the February.
I love snow and cold weather.

Born January ‘62. Love the winter months.

Ihopeithinkiknow · 23/06/2026 17:08

Born in December and I hate the summer but love winter.
My daughter was also born in December and hates winter but loves summer.

No, I’m born in the winter and hate the cold. Warm, muggy weather is my favourite.

My birthday is late June and absolutely hate the heat and sun. I’d take -10°c, snow, rain, thunderstorms any day over the heat. My dream is to live in an arctic circle with 4 months of darkness and -30°c temperatures.

Ibi · 23/06/2026 17:17

Both my husband and I were born in winter. We both hate the winter and love the summer. This weather is perfect for me!

sharkstale · 23/06/2026 17:18

Not for me, early feb baby, but I get SAD in the winter. I love the sun... not so much these heatwaves though.

juldan · 23/06/2026 17:20

I am November born and absolutely hate the month and other cold months. Have always felt envious of the other family members who all have/had birthdays in nice months - March, April, June, September. I love the summer and hot weather.I wouldn’t mind a short winter (no more than a month) with proper crispy snow and sunny days but cannot stand the wet miserable “winter” we have in UK. My kids are March and September born and both dislike autumn and winter.

7238SM · 23/06/2026 17:21

OP- What is your mums theory on people born in a different hemisphere but living more than half their life in the other? 🤷‍♀️

Londonnight · 23/06/2026 17:26

I'm November born and I hate winter. Love the summer though

Tillow4ever · 23/06/2026 17:27

I’ve always said this - most people I’ve met confirm to this theory, but not everyone!

i am an October baby and love autumn.

SockQueen · 23/06/2026 17:28

Born in June, hate summer.

Tillow4ever · 23/06/2026 17:30

HurdyGurdy19 · 23/06/2026 16:50

Born middle of June. Loathe anything over 20⁰

So bang goes that theory 😄

To be fair, and someone else may have said this already, the average June temp in the UK is less t h an 20°c! We are currently around 16° higher than June averages.

ToniAndCalm · 23/06/2026 17:31

I’m winter born and love love love the winter! I don’t like UK sunshine (I like it on holiday!) and will be continuing to ‘pretend’ to enjoy the sunshine and to pretend be sad when it’s cloudy over the coming weeks - to be in line with social expectations. My joy returns in sept/Oct, I’m thrilled by November and then utterly content until march/April. I really love the quiet, dark calm.

OutOfApricots · 23/06/2026 17:41

My favourite time is mid autumn. I was not born in autumn.

Newsenmum · 23/06/2026 17:42

Disagree with pretty much everyone I can think of right now. Sorry!

smallchange · 23/06/2026 17:43

I was a high summer birthday and hot weather is not my favourite. I'm not built for it in any way. I love crisp Autumn days and winter when it's dry.

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 23/06/2026 17:45

Maybe!

I'm a late May birthday, I love the heat.
DH born in April, likes it but not as much as me.1
SD is an October birthday, she's not a fan.
DD is a February birthday, born on a snowy day, and HATES it to the point that it's like she's had an entire personality change.

I'm thinking of all my summer loving friends and they are mostly summer birthdays, and the ones who hibernate and wait for winter are winter birthdays!

chichi001 · 23/06/2026 17:50

Im an Halloween baby but this sort of weather is my favourite. I live the sun and heat, hate the rain and gloom and cold.

ExquisiteDressing · 23/06/2026 17:54

Middle of winter baby, May and Sept are my favourite months.

DelphiniumBlue · 23/06/2026 18:03

No, I don’t think that works for me. It doesn’t take account of the fact that many people’s preferences change as they get older. I used to love the summer, but now anything over 24 degrees makes me feel ill.
DH always used to prefer winter, but not anymore.

NerdyBird · 23/06/2026 18:13

Dd is a July baby and is not fond of the heat. I’m in February, born in Aus but grew up here and I prefer spring or autumn.

RampantIvy · 23/06/2026 18:15

What's your take on my mum's theory?

Complete and utter bollocks.

I was born in November. I love summer.

We have had 32 degrees here today and I'm fine with that.

StressyMcStressFace · 23/06/2026 18:57

I am an Irish redhead, December born and I despise the cold!!! Give me heat any day! Please 🙏
