Ritchie Anderson on radio 2

He's covering for Trevor Nelson and now has his own jingle. They're testing the waters for his own show I think now there's about to be a reshuffle.
There is something about him that really gets on my wick and he's ruined escape to the country now too.
I like Ellie who's been doing Sara's show, use her instead please BBC!

Makes a great deal of sense. Radio 2 is overly skewed towards presenters rather than DJs. Most of the former have no real interest in music at all. @Peakypolly This is exactly why I turn over at 9.30. Gary Davies reins her in but with Vernon, you get the feeling you are intruding on their lunchbreak or something.

Edited

I don’t think it’s too skewed with presenters. On a week day Vernon came from the TV but everyone else is a DJ aren’t they?

BCBird · 23/06/2026 19:39

Liked it when Vanessa was on radio 2 covering for Jeremy Vine.

Myblueclematis · 23/06/2026 19:56

I heard Richie yesterday for the first time presenting a show, he seemed ok to me but I only listened for a short while so maybe a whole show would be a step too far.

I love Trevor Nelson and Tony Blackburn 😀

I am getting so fed up with Vernon I hardly bother to put the radio on now, he's noisy, shouty and no one loves the sound of their own voice as much as he does.

I wish I could find another station but a lot obviously have adverts so I am at a loss as to where to go. I do listen to BBC6 sometimes but usually weekends.

I like Ritchie Anderson. I would prefer more female DJs on radio 2 and love Sara cox’s brand of silliness. I liked when Vanessa covered Jezza V too and miss claud and Zoe, they were excellent to listen to.

I think most newish ones have had TV careers first - Sara Cox came from the TV, as did Zoe, Rylan, Claudia, Graham N, Vernon, Paddy, and quite a few others.

I listen to STV in the morning (I mute the ads) and the morning presenters would be brilliant in the afternoon - great music and just the right amount of warmth and silliness. Shame they and other great DJs from local stations across the UK don't stand a chance - it's bound to be one of the big (and English) names already on there.

Sara and Zoe had been on the Radio 30 years though so don’t really class them in the presenter bracket. They’ve been doing radio much longer than TV.

Zoe has been doing TV along with radio for a long time though. I think many of them have TV presence rather than 'just' being DJs

No! No! No!
I can't do with Ellie although not sure why as I thought she was ok on Strictly and don't get me started on OJ...

I must admit Ritchie is warming on me although I'm not sure how I'd feel if he had his own show every day 😬

O.J. is my new Steve Wright, as soon as he comes on I change the station, DDog and I are enjoying Classic FM later at night.

Yellowshirt · 23/06/2026 21:20

Radio 2 has a bloke on from 5am to 7am called Owine.
He plays decent music but again he is boring and exceptionally rude. I've never heard anyone stop someone giving the thought for the day type thing mid sentence saying "lovely. Now we must move on"

Mumofthreeteenagers · 23/06/2026 21:58

Oj for drive time!
RA is sooooo pretentious and tedious. He ticks boxes for the BBC but I have to switch off. As I do for Vernon and Emma on Saturdays- just can't stomach them!
Phil Williamson gone too, he was better than Connor who now sits in for oj.
Honest, it's crap!
I listen to r1 ril 2, then switch over. But had to switch in greatest hits - lurve Ken Bruce but the adverts do my head in!

Think r2 have a dj shortage and wheeling out the part timers... but haven't sorted a pipeline except the r1 dj who sits in for spooney. (Melvin?)

Pistacheeo · 23/06/2026 22:06

Radio 1 wouldn't be struggling if Greg moved over to 2. It would open up breakfast for Katie or Sam & Danni and then Emile, James, Ore, the Lauren's Jerry and Milo & Rosie could slot in the other shows. They've got so many good "supply" presenters but Greg and to be honest RMC could all do with moving on.

MegMortimer · 22/06/2026 20:52

Well, I love Ritchie.

But why? What are the rest of us missing?

Bonsatater · 23/06/2026 22:10

Good point although we would loose Rylan on a Saturday with our Linda he would actually be brilliant in the week. I bet he'd be to busy though

PropertyGuy · 23/06/2026 22:43

Chris Hawkins on the pre-breakfast show on 6 Music is absolutely brilliant. Well worth a listen. Deserves a much bigger audience. "Names in Songs" on Wednesdays is a real highlight.

indigorising · 23/06/2026 23:04

RA - awful. R2 awful. I was a big fan of R2. Does no one decent want to work for R2 💁🏼

Northernladdette · 23/06/2026 23:05

Blimey, nearly everyone calling him Ritchie. It’s Richie!

BlackBeltInOrigami · 24/06/2026 00:00

Ritchie sounds like his mouth is full of marshmallows! Probably a lovely chap but I can’t listen to his voice.

StormGazing · 24/06/2026 08:25

Foughties · 22/06/2026 20:38

Sally Traffic is ruining everything. Surely everyone is bored of her interactions by now.

Is she the one that sounds drunk?!

I wouldn't call Sara Cox a DJ. She came from being a model in things like Nuts, Zoo and Loaded via the Girlie Show. No DJ credentials at all AFAIK even after 25 years on the radio. Presenters and DJs are entirely different things. Paddy is no DJ either. Neither are Ellie Taylor, Joel Dommett or Josh Widdecombe who are comedians. Emma Willis isn't either. I know she isn't on R2 (God forbid) but Amanda Holden isn't a DJ. These people are presenters in some form or other, but let's not pretend they're DJs. I have a local radio station on on Sunday mornings after R&M have finished on 6Music, and we get a mix of tracks, relevant chat and music knowledge which is excellent.

It's getting the balance right between being lectured and being spoken to like you are kids. Shaun Keaveny gets it right on Sunday afternoons. @ThisKhakiDog I find Sara unlistenable but @PropertyGuy Chris Hawkins is brilliant.

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 25/06/2026 11:53

Agree, the presenters seem to feel we have to be "entertained", missing the point that some (many) of us listen for the music - that is our enjoyment. Which is why I mourn the loss of genuine DJs like Johnnie Walker, and still find Tony Blackburn very listenable.

I love Tony now, wasn't so keen back in the 70s, I've even found his jokes pretty funny on occasion. I listen on Saturday sometimes if I'm awake then change to BBC 6 Music.

Radio 2 is absolutely awful at weekends during the day after Tony.

Jellylasagnafortwo · 25/06/2026 12:23

I like Richie. Not keen on Gary.

uptheposh · 25/06/2026 12:26

I cannot bear the man. From day one when he appeared on the travel he has grated on me.

Awful boring droning… now like PP said he’s ruined Escape to the Country which was my guilty iPlayer cheer me up show.

I just don’t get it!

Workisntworking · 25/06/2026 14:04

Im hoping OJ will get Drivetime.
Would have loved him to get breakfast.

But I assume he doesn't want a permanent daytime slot.

SirChenjins · 25/06/2026 16:00

OJ is so dull (imo obviously) - drivetime needs energy and enthusiasm, none of which he seems to have in abundance.
