@TooBigForMyBoots I do hope you and your family and neighbours are safe and the violence doesn't continue to escalate.

Belfast doesn't deserve more civilian casualties or conflict.

I'm so sorry that you are having to witness horrific scenes in your town. When these things are done by your neighbours, it can be a real shock because you don't know if they are people you know or have seen around.Flowers

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/06/2026 23:24

Thank you all. AFAIK, all my family are safe. Some of my friends are concerned about their workplaces.

Me too.🤞

From one photograph I saw houses were being burnt out can't imagine living in those areas.
I daresay it will achieve the sum of fuck all.

PickAChew · 10/06/2026 00:07

Not random houses, either. It's sick, racist abuse.

logicisall · 10/06/2026 00:16

Oh @TooBigForMyBoots No words, it's awful. Stay safe.

AcrossthePond55 · 10/06/2026 00:21

@TooBigForMyBoots

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. It makes you just despair for your town and some of the people who live in it.

Being in the US I only know a bit about the incident and that the so-called 'protests' are basically anti-immigrant.

You know, back a few years during the protests here, at the end of the day it turned out that almost all of the so-called 'agitators' weren't politically motivated. They just wanted to loot and burn. Made me so angry.

Indeed. My DD is not British. I am. She has a cert of entitlement so she can choose to be British if she wants to be.

But I am seeing images of a business of her nationality being rammed and set ablaze.

Sick racist fucks. That's all I can say.

Ohh, and that knob Musk needs to be sanctioned by the UK.

BustingBaoBun · 10/06/2026 06:52

I'm late to the party, love the title, thanks for new thread @Spandauer

logicisall · 10/06/2026 06:59

Glasgow seeing smaller anti-immigration protests too, which could easily spread given it's ethnic composition.

logicisall · 10/06/2026 07:01

US airforce base in Kuwait was attacked last night.

dapsnotplimsolls · 10/06/2026 07:03

Thank you for the new thread.

MushMonster · 10/06/2026 07:15

I hope things have calmed down in Belfast now.
The footage of this knife attack is trully horrifying. The Sudanese suspect was trying to decapitate this poor man, sitting on to of his chest with this knife and shouting something. He would not leave the victim alone, even when he knew he was been filmed and the police had been called, he continued attacking the victim. Three brave bystanders intervened just before the police made it to the scene. One hit the attacker with a stick and he had to hit him several times to get him off the victim. It is trully horrible.
UK does have a serious issue with knife crime, drugs and the integration of a fraction of immigrants. There is no point in denying it. We have to face it. And work at sorting it.
The attacker is an assylum seeker.
But then, everytime anything happens involving a foreigner, particularly assylum seekers, riots follow. Not only demonstrations with a few skirmish, but full on burn the place down. Since last year, burning the place down with people in seems to have become the thing.
I remember a groups of foreign nurses dragged out of their home in a previous riot.
It is terrifying. I am an immigrant here. It makes me streseed and anxious, the way Farage goes about indefinitive leave to remain (equivalent of the green visa) and I got a leaflet from our local Restore saying they will target dual nationals too!
But I do not want my family walking around streets where they can be attacked in this way by someone who we really even don't know who they are and what life they had before reaching UK shores.
Farage stirs a lot of shit on the daily, so it becomes difficult to assess if crimes commited by immigrants entering the country illegally on boats is rising or is just Farage media stirring it. Our police does not record race and immigration status; well did not. But they should. And is all a huge mess.
You can say that our police and Home Office lack of ability to properly differenciate between a law abiding citizen and a criminal, to the point that they recently handcuffed a victim of stabbing seconds after arriving to a scene where he was clearly losing consciousness.
It is bad. Farage and company keep blaming immigrants, including fully legal ones with full police records disclosures on their visas and perfectly law abiding. And the governments in power have and are struggling to get policies and actions to tackle this.

RonnieDysonLadyInRedNorthernsoul · 10/06/2026 07:47

Farage,Tommy twat, the mail highlight crimes for their own gains.

logicisall · 10/06/2026 08:03

I cannot help but think that there is a high possibility of mental health issues present in the perpetrator of the knife attack. I'm avoiding watching an sm videos of the attack. The thread about it on MN is pretty febrile.

Spandauer · 10/06/2026 08:21

Mid terms are coming together - Platner has won the Democratic Senate nomination for Maine so setting up a good chance of finally getting rid of Repug incumbent Susan 'Concerned' Collins. Platner's got a lot of baggage so will have to keep up the damage control. Hope there aren't any more skeletons in his dubious cupboard.

California governor election will be between Dem Xavier Becerra and Repug Steve Hilton.

Threads! Not sure why I ended up on them.

Ive said on other threads I went on a counter protest in my city last night (not Belfast nor anything like it) - not one thing about the event they were supposedly against - almost like they didn’t know and just rocked up to be offensive and fight. We saw them off here - it’s those inciting the overall protests that are at fault I know and it is just abhorrent using this poor attacked guy as today’s excuse.

MushMonster · 10/06/2026 08:39

I am positive there are mental health issueshere. He looks proper devil in the footage.
I think quite a big percentage of people want a further explanation. It makes sense that someone from Sudan is suffering with mental health issues; the country is going through hell. But, did the attacker show signs before this? What was done? Who was checking that this individual was fit to be in society? The whole story, where it fails and fix it. There are higher numbers of harrassment and assault to women including rape than weapons attack.

Then there is the minority who will blame the whole of that nationality or colour or whatever they deem "right" and burn buses and houses.

Where is the common sense ground between those in power telling us all is good and sound and those burning houses with people in? We need to figure the problem and solve it. Kicking it down the road will no longer do.

Let's see what Trump says about it. I am sure he has the solution. Possibly simikar to Musk's.
But we really do not want something like ICE here. I hope it goes away from US.

RonnieDysonLadyInRedNorthernsoul · 10/06/2026 08:46

@MushMonster This is a UK issue Musk,Trump can keep their nib out.
Any input from any of Trumpets administration will not be helpful only inflammatory.

RonnieDysonLadyInRedNorthernsoul · 10/06/2026 08:49

Getting back to the US ofA this WC is going to be a monumental fuck up.
The UFC fights on the WH lawn wtf is that about.

DuncinToffee · 10/06/2026 08:50

@MushMonster Support services, mental health services have been cut to the bone.

And the last thing we need is more interference from the US. Musk's incitement is dangerous enough

logicisall · 10/06/2026 08:56

@MsJinks I remember the days when football hooligans would rock up at anything for the kicks of causing destruction. Similar mindset in some of the 'protesters' in Belfast.

Anyway, not to derail the thread so it's back to Trump and his destruction of America while the rest of the world is collateral damage. With the latest selfdefense attacks

I'm wondering why Iran seems determined to force Jordan into the fray. It does produce a lot of food for the region, so leverage re Lebanon?
