Deciduous trees among evergreens – planted in the 1930s!

Clever. Nasty, but clever.

I've just finished reading the latest post from Heather Cox Richardson. Trump is getting hemmed in on all sides and sounds like he's about to explode. On top of everything else, the stink from Epstein files has not gone away.

From that HCR article:

Fox News hosts are urging Trump to increase U.S. military involvement in Iran, claiming that it will take only two weeks to win a decisive military victory.

Clearly the Fox News hosts are well aware of Trump's "two weeks" timeframe for everything.

But more importantly, US military strategy to be set by media show hosts?Angry Given Fox's influence over Trump it's a real possibility.

It already is, isn't it ? Wasn't Hegseth a TV anchor ?

Some would say I was a lost man in a lost world
You could say I lost my faith in the people on TV
You would say I lost my belief in our politicians
They all seem like game show hosts to me

Clearly they are still finding brain cells.

Water reserves shot ...

So, the retaliation will include water facilities in countries around ME....

Ours too. Same as we have attacks on communities here, we could have our water resources targetted.

What does this achieve? Because Iran is saying there is no deal.

How many specialists does it take to find a brain cell...

DuncinToffee · 12/06/2026 10:44

No real surprise here

CBS News to hire Sky News presenter Trevor Phillips as global correspondent

British journalist to become one of most prominent appointments made by embattled editor-in-chief Bari Weiss

How many specialists does it take to find a brain cell...

Well, the US does have 18 different intelligence agencies. One of them should be able to find it.

Roundup underway of anyone who has bought roundup.

Federal ban coming soon.

And salt. Gotta get rid of salt.

(Which is what I would probably use if I wanted to spell out a message on somebody's lawn; finding everyone who has bought salt in the past, say, six months would keep the feds busy and happy for quite a while. Though I believe writing what you want to say in the seeds of something fast-growing also works well.)

Salt ? I never knew that.

I had an image in my head of "great escape" style modified trousers. Pull a cord and a puddle of roundup flows out. Done by a team with GPS.

But salt... much easier with trousers idea.

Oh no.... now I am humming the tune..

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/06/2026 11:42

Serves you right!

I had envisioned a dance troupe all rehearsing like mad and carefully dropping salt out of something like maracas as they went. I freely admit that some of this idea might have come from Captain Vorpatril's Alliance by Lois McMaster Bujold.

Their main job seem to be infiltrating each other.

"Salting the earth" is a favourite tactic of conquering armies. The Romans wiped Carthage off the map doing it.

And William the Bastard scarred the North of England for generations with it.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/06/2026 11:58

Historically, cress has not been used much by conquering armies, or at least, if it has nobody has recorded it.

I have heard of salting the earth, and have read of the issues of salination of land due to well irrigation. But I never associated brown grass with salt.

I used to live by the sea, and the grass in the spray zone was fine.

Learn something every day .

REP22 · 12/06/2026 12:07

I used to work at a private boys' school. Every time an area of grass was re-seeded by the groundsmen, a large knob visible from upper windows would appear not long after, carefully trodden out among the newly-growing grass. The cricket pitches were rife with imagery every year. Some highly anatomically correct and inventive.

No need for that at the WH - the knob is clearly visible from any angle, no grass involved.

I remember the knob in the field when Trump visited the uk before :-)

Did your groundman ever get to the bottom of the knobs in your school ? Below is a clip from CNN on the DC story. And they appear to be really serious.

I am tempted to head out tonight with balaclava and a box of Saxa to a local park tonight. To experiment. But the grass is different. Where I am, it is not unknown to paint the grass.
