Cars from your childhood

I love watching Celebrity Antiques Road Trip where they get to drive really cool classic cars.
Some cars really take me back to my childhood in the late 70s/80s.
My mum had Datsun Cherry and dad drove a beast of a BMW which resembled a tank.
My brother had a Ford Capri which I loved.

What cars were a part of your childhood?

My first car was an ancient Austin Allegro with the square steering wheel. 😁

It was white and I grabbed some cheap gloss paint and I painted pink and blue stripes down it.

I then had a series of 1960’s VW Beetles. They were great inc. a pretty blue Cabrio.

My dad’s best cars were the old Rovers. I remember a two tone Rover 90 and a later style Rover 110.

I started learning to drive in a Vauxhall Victor with no power steering and a very heavy clutch. It was a PIG to drive and I used to have a very sore left ankle after each lesson.

I then swapped instructors and went with one who had a cute 70’s mini and passed my test in that. It was wonderful to drive.

I’m the only one that drives, so I drive big family cars but once the family are grown up, I fancy getting something like a cute mini again as I have such fond memories of it.

My mother had a morris minor ( had to be double declutched ) which I was allowed to use. It had the turning circle of an ocean liner , & I drove it into the back of Dad's Triumph stag the first time I took it out myself.
