FIFA WORLD CUP 2026 - DISCUSSION AND WATCHALONG THREAD ⚽️

Wasn't sure where to put this, so ive put it here for now, as its where I put the Arsenal Premier League win one.

I'm really looking forward to the World Cup, and want an England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 win (although I am of course behind Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿!)

I've got the BBC sport notifications turned on, and will likely watch with the BBC, rather than ITV.

I'll be watching my matches from home alongside my dd and cat, who are both uninterested!

Anyone fancy joining me? Will you stay up for the games of the country youre supporting?

Supporters of all countries welcome 🙂, expect football chat and banter, favourite goals/matches, fun facts about countries etc, what we're doing in celebration etc.

Happy viewing 🏆

Commiserations to England!

Knocked out on penalties again at the quarter/semi final stages!
Who would have thought it!

(Just posting this to prepare the England fans for the inevitable disappointment)

😄😄

Which country do you think will win it? Who do you want to win? 👀

I don't think a European country has ever won the world cup when it's been played in the Americas so probably Brazil or Argentina but Spain and France have a decent chance.

Tollington · 05/06/2026 17:22

I will keep one eye on England as we (Arsenal) have four players in the squad but I really struggle to get excited about international football

I’m not sure if Argentina and Portugal qualified, I’d guess they did. This will be the last chance we get to see Messi and Ronaldo at a World Cup I’d imagine so I’ll try and watch them. Two of the greatest ever

Fallulah · 05/06/2026 17:27

I’m very excited - it’s time for the men to do what the women keep doing (although I don’t really rate Tuchel so 🤷).

Secretly hoping we come second in group because the knock out games for that team are at a slightly more acceptable time!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 05/06/2026 18:14

@Tollington 👋👋

Did you go to the Arsenal parade in the end?

Yeah, looking forward to seeing the two greats play!

😄 agree @Fallulah re timing! Yeah, time for the men to catch up!

Judging by how theyre coping in the heat, England could be in trouble 😬

I suspect Brazil will do well 👀

I will be Team Uruguay for this World Cup. Watching as many of the matches as I can, and especially the games involving my club's four players who are involved.
I think Argentina will win, but would prefer Brazil.

Are you from Uruguay? - its likely to be Bielsa's last world cup isnt it

What was it like seeing them at Wembley?

I’m Irish but really looking forward to the World Cup. I’m supporting Germany.

ShesFootballCrazyShesFootballMad · 05/06/2026 19:38

I'll be here, twirling in my new name!!

Supporting ENGLAND, with hope rather than expectation!!

call me 'crazy' 😊

frozendaisy · 05/06/2026 19:48

Half this house is club football
Then the World Cup happens 😀
Last final we were all cheering Messi (just Messi basically)

Obviously would love an England win (in our lifetime) - failing that we have Spanish immediate family (not the worse second team sometimes) - failing that all bets are off and it’s a free for all - sometimes chosen on national anthem alone - or the happiest looking fans, anything really.

Will be cheering Scotland all their way

(added complication of some school exams and various other commitments youngster claiming he’s basically setting up camp in the lounge and will power nap his way to school) 🤔

Fucking hate the corruption that is FIFA mind and the fucking peace prize almost makes you want to boycott the whole thing (but we won’t obviously)

Grandma who is looking for reasons to spoil the grandchildren is on England top duty (I have barred the white so between goalkeeper and red - red was decided) she can throw in a ball as well if she likes

No, I am a Leeds fan. When Bielsa left Leeds, the fans never got the opportunity to say goodbye. I felt that I had to go to Wembley to say my own personal goodbye. There were lots of Leeds there, doing exactly the same thing

Germany won in 2014 in Brazil playing against Argentina!

Welcome welcome 🥰

Your ds has made me laugh 😄, no idea how i'll do the 3am games myself

Surely England can’t go 60 years without winning the World Cup

I said🤨

Hope Kane can translate his form in Germany to the England team. Tbh I’m not sure his performances in the past have been what we need when we need but let’s see. Perhaps luck will be on our side because, let’s face it, you need a big dose of that too.

Yes we went to the parade, what an absolutely brilliant day. Parked at Finchley and went to Angel, Red and White sea from Finchley onwards. A day I will never forget and so glad I was part of it. How was your experience?

So glad @Tollington - it looked like a really good vibe and crowd as well

It was a little disappointing here 😄, i think dd had had enough by that point and didnt want to watch on tv (we didnt go to the parade as she is autistic at 7, and it wouldve been a lot) - but she went out and about in her arsenal top and was part of the vibe so hopefully I did enough 🥺

Hard agree, we need luck

I am also not wholly convinced by Kane 😬! But lets see

Still sad about slabhead not going, but overall happy with the team

Not sure about this Tuchell but that could be as I loved Southgate

Yes me.
I enjoyed the first half, a good workout for England though it’s obviously very hot and humid.
Great goal and btw the kit looked really great- wish we would play in that one more often.
