It’s finally Friday. What’s for tea, dinner or supper at your house?

Whats on the menu?

It’s been a long week and I get the feeling that DTeens and DH all need a spot of TLC (whereas I’m absolutely fine having had a day off and actually wet myself laughing in a tennis match this morning.)

I’ve just put pulled chicken in the oven to have a good five hours. With (bought) flatbreads, a sort-of Middle Eastern salad and herby labneh. Then homemade lemon ice cream (time will tell…) with berries and toasted almonds. And cupcakes from the local bakery for those that want one. There’s also a bottle of Chablis I’d been saving for an emergency.

Can’t wait! Please humour me with your dinner plans.

DS and DIL have asked us round for a takeaway curry.

CalicoCaterina · 17/04/2026 18:49

Lamb shawarma kebabs, I don’t really like lamb much but it was in the freezer. New recipe so I hope it is nice, apparently you have to knead lamb to tenderise it, I put it in my kenwood chef with the various spices 🙏. Flatbreads, hummus and salad.

SkyLark79 · 17/04/2026 19:04

Haddock, new potatoes and tenderstem and a chilled glass of rose :)

Ryvita and hummus.
Very boring but it's my birthday in a couple of days so I'm banking calories!😄

stapletonsguitar · 17/04/2026 19:10

Curry - DS is making it so no recipe!

saveforthat · 17/04/2026 19:13

Paella, home made. We had it on Wednesday so quickly reheating leftovers now.

FairyBatman · 17/04/2026 19:15

Steak sandwich with the rosemary and sea salt focaccia from Lidl 😋

HolidayPlanningAgain · 17/04/2026 19:27

Wine and possibly some pistachios later.
DH isn’t hungry
DSD 18 has been told there is food in the freezer if she wants anything before she goes out, but says she’s okay as has had revision snacks all day.
DSD 17 getting food in town with friends
Result for me!

Sausage casserole that went in the slow cooker at lunch time. Serve with mash and cabbage

Thejugglestruggle · 17/04/2026 19:36

Husband just gone round to pick up 4 x fish & chips. Haven't had a takeaway in ages and can't wait!

WilfredsPies · 17/04/2026 20:09

He sounds like a piece of work.

Didn’t anyone ever tell you not all attention is good attention? You big silly billy.

DilemmaDelilah · 17/04/2026 20:15

A calorie counted ready-meal... Liver and bacon with mashed potato, and a HUGE amount of cabbage. Followed by a Danone Activia 0% fat 0% sugar peach yoghurt and a cup of decaf coffee.

It was food - that is probably the best I can say about it. The cabbage and the yoghurt were very nice though.

maddiemookins16mum · 17/04/2026 20:17

We had pan fried duck breast, noodles and 5 spice sautéed pak choi and broccoli.

Tiddlywinks63 · 18/04/2026 14:38

Well, you all put in far more effort than I did - cheese on toast and a cup of tea here!

GetOffTheCounter · 18/04/2026 15:48

Tonight Dcs are having steak hache and wedges and salad.

DH and I are having vegan pizza (White Rabbit range) and I am adding pineapple, mushrooms, sundried tomatos, black olives chilli and a drizzle of maple syrup.

I loved hearing about the Friday night meals. Lots of impressive homemade dishes, takeaway treats and comfort food.

The pulled chicken went down very well here. I think that might become a staple.

I clearly peaked early this weekend and DD17 is making supper tonight. It’s paneer korma with spinach dal, baked samosas and pilau rice. She’s been planning it all week. Cooking starts at 6, and I’ll be whetting my appetite with a g and t in the garden 😊

That’s sounds lovely! Love paneer. I’m making chicken tortilla soup with fried tortilla strips and guacamole and steak, onion and pepper quesadillas.

Wine. Sausage roll. Some Asian snack bits. Olives. And bed.

I genuinely have never made one authentically and my husband who does all the cooking often suggests a croque monsieur - do you happen to have a recipe you could share please? (yes I am a terrible terrible cook)

Sure thing, Winch! Below is a fab site but an overly complicated recipe. I leave out the mustard, the nutmeg and the frying step. So for me it's 2 slices of bread with bechamel, cheese, ham, and - important - mayo, on the bottom slice only facing the baking paper. It all goes in the oven at 180 (mine runs hot).

I usually have roux in the freezer so I defrost it, add hot milk and my bechamel is ready to go.

CM is such good comfort food. Add a fried egg on top and it's called Croque Madame.

Croque Monsieur - the ultimate ham & cheese sandwich!

Croque Monsieur is a hot ham and cheese sandwich, done the French way. Do not open this webpage if you're dieting!!!

Tonight I think we are having tofu shnitzel. It's DS1's favourite. Plus wedges and sweetcorn I think.
