It’s finally Friday. What’s for tea, dinner or supper at your house?

Whats on the menu?

It’s been a long week and I get the feeling that DTeens and DH all need a spot of TLC (whereas I’m absolutely fine having had a day off and actually wet myself laughing in a tennis match this morning.)

I’ve just put pulled chicken in the oven to have a good five hours. With (bought) flatbreads, a sort-of Middle Eastern salad and herby labneh. Then homemade lemon ice cream (time will tell…) with berries and toasted almonds. And cupcakes from the local bakery for those that want one. There’s also a bottle of Chablis I’d been saving for an emergency.

Can’t wait! Please humour me with your dinner plans.

choice of chicken tray bake or carbonara here which my 15yo said are “both good options” which made me happy.
carbonara has been chosen which is good because I’m going out for drinks tonight

We had croque monsieur. It was the easiest but by far the best dinner of the week! We used to live in France so it's a bit nostalgic for us.

I genuinely have never made one authentically and my husband who does all the cooking often suggests a croque monsieur - do you happen to have a recipe you could share please? (yes I am a terrible terrible cook)

I think Buddha bowls... quinoa (from a packet), falalalalafels, hummus, salad, beetroot, seeds, Greek yogurt with harissa.

GrueyTwoey · 17/04/2026 16:10

Scampi, chips and mushy peas, can't remember the last time I had it, definitely over a year ago.

Just me to feed and I am feeling extraordinarily lazy, so a kind of faux shakshuka (a pack of bombay potatoes with lentils, the kind that you are meant to microwave) in the frying pan, lid on and a couple of eggs broken in on top. Very quick, very easy, delicious and a shocking cheat.

Hartleyhare1206 · 17/04/2026 16:15

Ooh all of your meals are making me hungry!

flatbreads topped with salad and tatziki, halloumi and spiced roast potato’s here.

probably rounded off with an Easter egg!

Yes; I know it’s double carbs with the flatbread and potato, but I’m pretty sure the addition of salad means at least one of the carbs doesn’t count 🤣

Enjoy your meals!

WinchSparkle80 · 17/04/2026 16:20

Sausages, scrambled eggs and home made wedges- not healthy at all but needed today!

DinoLil · 17/04/2026 16:20

I've got some of the chilli baked beans so probably those on toast. Yum!

GetOffTheCounter · 17/04/2026 16:31

Breakfast for dinner is one of my favourites. Not done it for ages so next week....

PP is right- it feels different somehow having it for dinner. More indulgent somehow.

Rainbow1901 · 17/04/2026 16:37

Cheese pie - bought to have while at work yesterday but didn't get eaten. Shouldn't have bothered it wasn't very good but needed something before I go to work tonight.

Favouritefruits · 17/04/2026 16:38

Kids have a friend around for tea, so I’m going homemade pizza as a treat!

drspouse · 17/04/2026 16:40

We get a takeaway and watch a film most Fridays. Going to get a Nandos platter this week - a whole chicken plus some sides will do us nicely.

TheGriffle · 17/04/2026 16:42

Sausage roll (Greggs one’s from Iceland) chips and beans in our house, a proper British beige tea!

MotherofPearl · 17/04/2026 16:46

Thai red curry made with prawns and vegetables, served with rice. Not very exciting but fairly quick.

catipuss · 17/04/2026 16:50

Homemade fish pie, three sorts of fish plus prawns in sauce with a sliced potato topping. Remains will be fish cakes. We do push the boat out a bit on Fridays. And a glass or two of wine.

Some really lovely-sounding dinner!

My children have friends over, so there has sausages in buns, with a salad platter and some fries.

I’ve just put some chicken quarters and potatoes in the oven, cooked with lemon, cinnamon and black pepper. Will have with a lemony white cabbage and coriander salad.

Chocaholick · 17/04/2026 17:25

Salmon fillets, baby potatoes, broccoli and peas.

My 11 year old grandson has requested entrecôte steak, mushrooms, onions and homemade chips. He’s also requested that I test the interior temp of his medium rare steak with a cooks thermometer to get it just right, and In the event I couldn’t get out for the entrecote ingredients today he’s asked for pepper sauce instead.

He sounds like a piece of work.
