What’s the worst thing you’ve witnessed in a Teams/Zoom meeting?

I am ultra paranoid about online meetings, as I’ve witnessed a few mishaps:

  1. A woman took a personal phone call and didn’t realise a colleague had left their mic on. She started slagging the whole team off and we could hear every word.
  2. A man left his mic on and went to the toilet
  3. Not me personally - but a friend was in a meeting where a woman left her cam on by accident and she had just got out of the shower. She then got dressed in full view of everyone on the meeting.

I wouldn’t dare do any of those things even near my laptop, just incase of an accident occurring.

How unprofessional (if this is real). Edited to add, no-one with any sense would put a call like this on a speaker 🙄

Edited

Sorry but this is a no judgement zone.

Interviewing a young man and his mum kept hissing helpful points from behind the doorframe behind him. He was trying his best to ignore her, until her head popped out from behind the frame, in frustration, and I had to ask him to tell her it wasn’t allowed.

Poor bloke.

At Christmas, I joined in a teams meeting with a few other violin players to play some carols together, along with our tutor who had organised it. I was seated for comfort with my cat sat next to me. Just as we started to play Good King Wenceslas or something, my cat launched up and sunk her teeth and claws into my forearm (my bowing arm). I tried to carry on playing with my cat growling and swinging from my arm. Only the tutor noticed as the others were too busy reading their music. 😀

This is hilarious! Though I'm sure you didn't think so at the time

I heard a rumour of a colleague forgetting her camera was already off and turning it on when taking her laptop with her when she went for a wee in the middle of a very lengthy training input.

It makes me constantly paranoid to check my camera and mic are off … but apparently not sufficiently paranoid that I failed to notice my mic wasn’t muted whilst waiting for a Teams meeting to start. Fortunately only a handful of people heard me having a conversation with my cat!

On training with about 30 plus other people, many people with cameras off. Someone’s OH got their breasts out on camera and started rubbing his cock between them. Pretty sure she thought she was off camera or maybe not?!? Trainer ejected us all and training was cancelled for the afternoon. Never found out what happened.

Omg whhhaaaaaat?!? 😳

Does seem surprising that they didn’t leave their camera off, in that case!

I disagree I think why leave it on

DungareesTrombonesDinos · 06/04/2026 15:27

On a training course right at the beginning someone hadn't realised their mic was on and muttered

"God another day of this fucking shite"

I laughed my head off! He also used to eat boiled eggs with his face really close to the camera. Gross.

It all unfolded really quickly and they seemed to have no idea they were on camera. The trainer didn’t say anything, as it started to unfold, we were all ejected. Spoke to a couple of other colleagues who were on the same course. Nothing was said and the provider announced an issue with the tech and options to reschedule. Wish I could have been a fly on the wall. I would have died if that were me.

My line managers husband walked past her camera behind her in just his boxers. She was mortified. I thankfully have a sense of humour and don’t find other people’s bodies offensive so I was laughing.

My husband once had someone take a zoom call from his bed whilst drinking his coffee.

Several colleagues will call me while still in their housecoats. This does not bother me in the slightest.

We had a wider team meeting with people I don't know, someone joined the call from their car whilst driving, another person on the call was in law enforcement and read them the riot act.....I'm pleased they pulled them up, and made them pull over and end the call. Never met either person again so not sure of the outcome.

Saw a woman eating her breakfast last year which ended up unfortunately with her licking the plate in full view of about 120 delegates.

Think the training was recorded too 😂

That's hysterical 🤣

AlocasiaPolly · 06/04/2026 19:27

I described the people from the department we were meeting with to our new hire, not realising that we weren't on mute. It wasn't particularly complimentary. I could have died.

Dressassistance · 06/04/2026 19:32

Someone’s husband walked past naked

LlynTegid · 06/04/2026 19:47

Watch the film 'Colours of Time' when it is on general release in a couple of weeks' time. There's a good one which I won't spoil.

JoB1kenobi · 06/04/2026 20:02

Just a funny story. I’m a teacher with a local council email.
I was first on an FAQs Teams meeting hosted by local authority for children soon to start school - I was there as a parent, it was nothing to do with my job.

Soon realised host couldn’t do anything, weirdly it must’ve recognised my email address as an educator and made me the host and I hadn’t a clue how to pass the reins.

I was able to allow the actual host ‘sharing’ so she could do the PowerPoint but I had to admit everyone etc.

Annoyingly, my question was answered within minutes but I had to stay on until the meeting completely ended.

Okaylie · 06/04/2026 21:45

Best to only use your work email for work @JoB1kenobi.

HPD76 · 06/04/2026 22:54

I was on some zoom mandatory training that my company had paid a fortune for. I tried to call in sick with a vomiting bug, but was still made to virtually attend the training. Tried to be camera off and muted, but the trainer insisted on cameras on, so everyone involved was treated to the sight of me sweating a lot and hugging a bucket. Tried to keep the worst of it off camera, but the trainer was not arsed and kept coming to me for my contributions and insights. What a weird two days, not sure I learned a single thing either.

I am horrified at how they treated you @HPD76 That's really shocking!

That's terrible. I hope they normally treat their staff better, but even if so, there's no excuse for treating you like that.

you’re a teacher - that’s really unprofessional I’m afraid. If I’d seen that as a parent I would have complained to the school.

🤣 I bet you're fun at parties!

It was an accident, it was a whole new way of being and presumably the partner didn't get the message. He took his T shirt off not his pants 🙄

It wasn’t a bloody party, it was an online class.
