What’s the worst thing you’ve witnessed in a Teams/Zoom meeting?

purpleroses2 · 03/04/2026 18:20

I am ultra paranoid about online meetings, as I’ve witnessed a few mishaps:

  1. A woman took a personal phone call and didn’t realise a colleague had left their mic on. She started slagging the whole team off and we could hear every word.
  2. A man left his mic on and went to the toilet
  3. Not me personally - but a friend was in a meeting where a woman left her cam on by accident and she had just got out of the shower. She then got dressed in full view of everyone on the meeting.

I wouldn’t dare do any of those things even near my laptop, just incase of an accident occurring.

A stroke.

A colleague witnessed the same thing with another colleague.
It must have been bloody awful.

Read the standing orders! Read them and understand them!

Yes! The guy that shouted this was an absolute nutcase and in his rage he devolved into gollum noises at one point. The 18 minute version of the video is an absolute comedy goldmine.

People with babies on their laps . Beyond inappropriate and entitled in my opinion.

NeedWineNow · 04/04/2026 16:15

Zoom meeting whilst in lockdown. One of the attendees hadn’t blurred their background and we could clearly see one of their children feeding their pet snake mice. When someone pointed it out they blithely told us not to worry. Meeting then hurriedly cut short.

Did you read the bit where it was accidental? She didn’t “put it on speakerphone” the phone automatically connected to the car speaker via Bluetooth. She didn't anticipate or plan for it to happen.

I know, right? So dim. All this is is a learn from my mistake moment, if anything.

Loving this thread!! I don’t have anything other than ‘you’re on mute’ and the random cat bums/ dogs. Thankfully I now work in a sector where it is the norm to leave the camera off, so I can look like a sloth on WFH days

We have Teams meetings twice a week. Those who are WFH - there is no rule about what we wear. Had colleagues wearing Oodies. One of my team members has PJs specifically for Teams meetings. Usually the silk shirt ones with flowers, hearts, butterflies etc.

When I WFH, I wear hoodies, joggers. Probably shorts when it’s hot. Only WFH since Nov and properly since end Jan

Former job - boss on Teams and her partner strolled into the room she was in wearing pants and vest.

Nasty colleague left her mic on during a training session and told her family member in the background that she was on ‘some shit training.’ She didn’t stay in the job long after that.

It’s probably not the worst, but once I was in a training on zoom and I got bored (blergh, principles of project management II) and was messing around with settings and managed to put a top hat 🎩 on myself. 🤣 I panicked and in my panic couldn’t figure out how to remove it.

The presenter clearly saw me, wearing a top hat, freaking out, and completely lost his train of thought. So awkward. 🫣 Three more full days of project management and trying to pretend like that didn’t happen. 😬

Prince2 course?

Most cringeworthy. The CEO and senior leadership decided to host a Christmas morale booster during COVID, clearly put a lot of effort into planning it. The execution though - several thousand employees, all muted and cameras off, watching their most senior colleagues in Christmas jumpers and with faux fireplaces or Christmas trees as their backgrounds, make awkward small talk with each other.

Most jaw-dropping, a full departmental meeting with HR and unions in attendance. All attendees muted. Except the one woman who delivered an expletive ridden rant about the senior manager to the unknown person she was with. The awful silence dragged on for an uncomfortable length of time before the senior manager said "Linda, you appear to have unmuted yourself" and carried in with the meeting.

But was that during lockdown? Some people had no choice…

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 04/04/2026 18:21

I agree, @ruethewhirl. Covid wasn’t BAU WFH.

No it wasn’t during lockdown and the thing is where I work some people never put their cameras on and aren’t reprimanded for it or use excuses such as I have poor reception so have to leave my camera off and no one cares. So they could have just left the camera off and chose not to. So it was brazen if you ask me.

Similarly I was on a Teams group call when suddenly a man stood up and picked up a drink from across the room …
wearing a shirt , tie and some saggy y fronts 🤢

That Peter Mandelson eh? Eh?

foodlovefood · 04/04/2026 18:43

I teach adult on Teams. I have saw 2 people start having sex. They got kicked out quickly. Someone’s partner came into the room naked.

lots of people not going on mute and hearing life events. People forgetting on Teams and going shopping in Asda or driving. I do a housekeeping slide at the start and tell people I will remove them.

once my chair broke and people saw me fall to the ground.

I sm so thankful we are getting back to in person training b

TortoiseWhoLovesStrawberries · 04/04/2026 18:52

I was in a Zoom meeting with about 10-12 other people. A woman was late joining, and when she appeared I noticed she was driving her car, with her phone balanced down where the gearstick is, so we were all looking up at her chin and nose. Admittedly, she wasn’t looking at the screen, just listening, but still.

There was a sort of stunned silence, as the leader of the meeting also spotted her, but you could just tell that nobody could quite believe what we were seeing. Eventually, the group leader suggested she returned to the meeting when she got home as it was dangerous to be driving. She replied that she was just listening.

She continued in the meeting, parked up and carried her phone from her car to her house, along with all of us. Then she disappeared from view for a few minutes.

She soon reappeared. Trouble was, her back was against a sunlit window, so she was just a silhouette. She started pulling the curtains behind her, then opening again…. and so on. This went on for a couple of minutes as she tried to work out what was the best backdrop.

Eventually, she settled down at her screen but then we had a breakout meeting, with three people in each. I’m sure you can guess who one of the people in my group was. It didn’t get any better, but I can’t really say what happened, as it would identify her.

The whole episode was bizarre, yet weirdly mesmerising.

Very impressed that a 4 year old came out with “vulva flash”! 🤣🤣🤣

Edited

Clothes became optional for her during covid. I find myself saying, "would you please stop flashing your vulva" more giant i ever imagined. I guess that's where she got it from.... 😄

Bluegreenbird · 04/04/2026 19:06

Not terrible but funny. A bloke belched loudly in a Teams that was being transcribed in the side bar in the middle of the of a long piece by someone else so it was a huge block of script by ‘Kate’ then right in the middle it had converted his giant burp as ‘Raj’
‘Help’.

Makingmusicinmy50s · 04/04/2026 19:09

At Christmas, I joined in a teams meeting with a few other violin players to play some carols together, along with our tutor who had organised it. I was seated for comfort with my cat sat next to me. Just as we started to play Good King Wenceslas or something, my cat launched up and sunk her teeth and claws into my forearm (my bowing arm). I tried to carry on playing with my cat growling and swinging from my arm. Only the tutor noticed as the others were too busy reading their music. 😀

This has just about killed me off. The baby is asleep on me and I had to hold it together. 🎩

Being in a meeting with one of those 'wacky/I'm mad me' characters, who, in reality, had all the personality and charisma of a brick

There was meant to be a quiz, with voting options, so we couldn't switch off the mics or cameras.

Without any hint of irony, he put on a spangling cowboy hat, like you see on hen dos in big cities, an over sized pair of tacky Elton John type specs and put on a fake 'Yeehaw' accent to go through the questions

We were in Birmingham

Second hand cringing embarrassment had me squirming in my seat for nearly half an hour

It was excruiating

Wacky munters usually have the personality of a snowdrift.

But that's Brummies for you.
