How many times do you change clothes during a typical day?

Scintillating question right?! 😄

Friend is staying with me and remarked upon how many times I change my clothes over the course of the day.
So I wake up, shower, then put on my outfit depending on whether I am WFH, going out to work or have a day off. Outfit also changes if I am planning on exercising or gardening. She thinks I’m bonkers as she is of the ‘one outfit fits all’ concept (apart from gym wear, she allows for that 😁)
We are long time friends so only jokingly ribbing each other, just interested in which stance you take?

In office day - PJ’s, work outfit, gym wear, back into clean PJ’s

WFH day - fling a jumper over my PJ’s, if it is a gym day then gym kit and clean PJ’s.

Weekend. - PJ’s unless going out somewhere then I will get dressed but usually put my PJ’s back on when I get home then clean PJ’s at bed time.

I'm lucky enough to be retired, so its usually pyjamas into clothes that are not unlike pyjamas but are actually clothes, and then back into real pyjamas. I'm currently sat in a pair of joggers, a t shirt and a fleece I put on this morning, if I was going out I might change into a pair of jeans or cords, and a nicer t shirt and fleece or jumper.

When I was working and had my little kids, a horse, and a couple of dogs, it was not unusual to change 3 or 4 times a day.

We wfh part time, due to ill health and age (over pension age). We wear casual clothes all day, and go out to do gardening in them. DH does cardiac rehab once a week and he puts gym clothes on then. The only other time, we’d change was if we were going out on a special occasion, then we’d put smart casual on!

Doggymummar · 31/03/2026 19:41

Get up, get dressed, change when I go to bed. One outfit covers I all

FlatErica · 31/03/2026 19:42

Sleep naked
Get up and put on something like PJs to have breakfast in
Get dressed for work
Change into casual clothes when I get home
Bath then put on PJS
Sleep naked

so 4 times but if I go out in the evening, 5 times, because I don’t wear the same thing I wore to work.

if I go to the gym, you can add that on too. Likewise if I’m cleaning the house, I have old gym gear I keep specifically for cleaning.

DoomCup · 31/03/2026 19:43

One or two outfits usually

Put work uniform on in the morning then PJs/loungewear when I get home.

Weekends I will put on clothes for whatever I'm doing that day - usually just jeans/jumper for shopping, walking, visiting family. When I'm home and don't plan on leaving again it's back in to PJs/joggies.

LessOfThis · 31/03/2026 19:45

a max for me would be:
1 for dog walk
1 for morning shift (school)
1 for gym
1 for afternoon clients (home).
1 for relaxing
1 for bed (pyjamas)

but today I have worn 1 outfit since getting dressed as have not seen anyone.

Sproutling · 31/03/2026 20:10

Four or five depending on the day's activities

1.Get up and showered, change sleep tee for house clothes, potter/housework
2 Change to outdoor wear- shops/lunch /meet friends or allotment/country walking
3 get in and bathe, change in to bathrobe after
4 change into sleep tee for bed

5 if we go out in the evening (another change between 3 and 4 above)

stample · 31/03/2026 20:14

Gym clothes
work trousers and casual vest top
Just before leave put on work top
lazy clothes - often leggings and a Tshirt
if I go out even if just to the shop I’ll pop on trousers or jeans
pyjamas

in that exact order

NewYearNewMee · 31/03/2026 17:03

@binnibonnieboowell I can’t go walking in PJs and can’t work in my workout clothes 😂 so that’s automatically 3 outfits! Not counting the evening bits 😂 what do you do?

Dressing gown in the morning, no pyjamas. Gym clothes if going to gym. Whatever I put on for wfh I wear everywhere. Admittedly, if I go the office I'll change into something sloppy when I get home.

Sparkles1212 · 31/03/2026 20:49

I'd say around 4 times

QueenStevie · 31/03/2026 20:51

One outfit a day. Two max. If I have to get changed for an activity, it actively puts me off doing that activity. I actually think this is my main issue with going to the gym - all the getting changed. If I could just rock up and work out in my work clothes I think I would be more inclined to go. I wear my clothes all day until I go to bed. DH comes in and gets changed into his evening clothes and then undressed again for bed. That's just too much faffing for me.

QueenStevie · 31/03/2026 20:54

And if I'm in inappropriate clothes to leave the house e.g. pyjamas then I don't leave the house until I have summoned the energy to get dressed. I actually hate getting dressed. I have said for years that I need one of those machines like in the Jetsons cartoon that they go on one end and come out the other end all ready for the day.

Midlifecrisisaverted · 31/03/2026 20:55

Oh ten times a day! 🤣 Up - gym stuff. Home - shower, change into WFH comfies. Lunchtime get too hot, put a different top on. Afternoon dog walk - muddy pants and walking jumper, thick socks. Home - now hot, so change into cool stuff. Early evening, cook tea, smell of food so fresh PJ's. Bath and new set of PJ's. If going out in an evening that's another change. And always ALWAYS bra off as soon as the front door is closed and it's post 5pm 🤩

No wonder I'm always doing laundry 😂

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 31/03/2026 20:58

Change out of pyjamas and into work clothes. That's usually it. The last two times I went to the pub, I didn't bother to change or put make up on, but then, I was home before 9pm.

FoolOfShips · 31/03/2026 21:01

Most commonly just from nightwear to day clothes and back, unless I am going out somewhere I want to dress up, or I realise what I've originally put on is incompatible with the weather, or plans change.

hahabahbag · 31/03/2026 21:03

Mostly I wear an outfit for the day, I dress suitably for my plans. If I change plans I change my clothes

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 31/03/2026 21:04

Change if going out in the evening. Most of my day clothes are not really evening appropriate but would be if going round to a friend?
