How many times do you change clothes during a typical day?

Scintillating question right?! 😄

Friend is staying with me and remarked upon how many times I change my clothes over the course of the day.
So I wake up, shower, then put on my outfit depending on whether I am WFH, going out to work or have a day off. Outfit also changes if I am planning on exercising or gardening. She thinks I’m bonkers as she is of the ‘one outfit fits all’ concept (apart from gym wear, she allows for that 😁)
We are long time friends so only jokingly ribbing each other, just interested in which stance you take?

Typical day outfit 1- dog walk outfit 2 - WFH outfit 3 - swap shorts for trousers if going out eg shopping or cafe outfit 4 - back home into dog walk clothes outfit 5 - pyjamas.

It's worse on a gym day!

CeeJay81 · 31/03/2026 09:40

I have a uniform for work, so wear normal clothes before/after work. I work shifts, so it varies. Other than that, the only time id change is if i had an evening out(handful of times a year). I don't go to the gym, so dont do that. I might change my top if I've been doing something quite physical and am sweaty.

MsSmartShoes · 31/03/2026 09:11

I would change for gardening or cleaning
I would change for a muddy dog walk.
I would change if going out in the evening
i would change for the gym.

Same.

Rooroobear · 31/03/2026 09:41

Gym clothes on in the morning. Home from the gym then into work clothes and after work PJs unless I have to go out and then get changed into nicer clothes

franklymydearscarlett · 31/03/2026 09:44

Surely it depends on what your lifestyle is or what you do.
if I’m going to the office I would put on a work outfit. If I’m WFH I might put on a smart top but change out of it to something comfy once all calls done etc. then in the evening I might change for the gym or say I have a school event like DC concert or parents evening etc or meeting friends for dinner I would put on something smarter.

on weekends I change loads - comfy clothes for the house, gym clothes, going to the shops / DC activities / social stuff.

RottenApplesSpoilTheLot · 31/03/2026 09:45

I think the big divide is between those of us who have animal duties (dogs horses) and those that don’t. Winter muddy wet dog walks means compulsory change when I get home. Summer I would only change out of slobby dog walking gear if I was going out of the house.

I live in jeans - divided into paint splattered dog walking jeans and jeans smart enough to go out in. Top would change accordingly.

it would be very unusual for me to wear more than two separate outfits in a day.

definitely Bra on! What if someone came to the door 😱

Starlight1979 · 31/03/2026 09:45

Wake up - change out of PJs into dog walking clothes (leggings and jumper)
Back from dog walk and showered - change into workwear for office
Back from work - shower and change into "comfies" (usually joggers and hoody)
Bedtime - change into PJs

Occasionally there is another change between work and comfies if I'm going to the gym / yoga!

RoyalPenguin · 31/03/2026 09:48

I would only change my clothes to exercise or if I was going out in the evening, otherwise same clothes all day. I wear smarter clothes to go into work than to wfh, but either way I would stay in them all day (apart from the two circumstances above).

@RottenApplesSpoilTheLot exactly! Or a Zombie Apocalypse! 😅

The joke between us is, she is of the more endowed camp, whereas I am of the fried eggs variety so anyone would think it would be the other way round 😉

From pj's to day wear and back, plus changing if I'm doing exercise or significant cleaning/gardening.

bedfrog · 31/03/2026 10:39

Disabled and wfh. I change once into a casual outfit. That does for everything incl gardening and going for a local walk. I'll put something more smart on if I'm going to a shop or an appointment. So max on an average day is twice (pjs to clothes to pjs) but if I'm wfh then have an appointment it'll be pjs to casual to outside clothes back to casual and then back to pjs. Phew!

CharliesAngles · 31/03/2026 09:27

@Ihad2Strokes Yes, yes I did, is it so obvious? 🤭
I couldn't be bothered to come up with one, I'll try harder next time!

Other difference between us is, she is a bra off as soon as we're in person, whereas I'm firmly in the bra on unless I'm showering camp!
I think I am in the minority here, as I know
MN is fond of the bra off stance 😂

🤣🤣 I haven't tried one yet, but whatever they're using isn't great.

before the stroke I'd never found my bras uncomfortable so I'd shower, put one in & there it would stay until bedtime (or shower if I was going out in the evening) but since the stroke it is VERY difficult so I only put one on when I feel it's strictly necessary! (& when I 'feel it is necessary' is getting fewer tines/places 🤣🤣

At the moment way too often as my horse has strangles so is in strict biosecurity. I put tatty clothes on first thing to muck out. Those go in the laundry as soon as I get home. Shower and clothes for whatever I'm doing in the day. Then back to tatty clothes for evening stables. Those go in the aundry, shower and PJs for the evening. Yard clothes are the oldest of the old as all the washing is wrecking stuff.

Hope your horse gets better soon 💕

1000StrawberryLollies · 31/03/2026 11:08

On a work day, I change from pyjamas to work outfit in the morning, then back to pyjamas when I go to bed, except a couple of days when I go running or to a pilates class after work, so I change for those. At the weekend or during the holidays (I'm a teacher), I often go for a walk or a run or do some yoga, so I change out of my normal outfit for that.

countrygirl99 · 31/03/2026 12:19

Thanks @Ihad2Strokes it's taking ages but we are getting there slowly.

PizzaPowder · 31/03/2026 12:27

I just wear the same clothes all day. Seems like i'm in the minority 😀

Frequent clothes changes are definitely caused by animals. We have velcro cats, which means I can't wear anything nice in the house because it gets ruined by their claws.

I have lounging clothes that I wear when I get up. Then if I'm going out I get showered and changed. When I come home I get changed back into indoor cat destroyed clothes which may be the same or different to the ones I wore in the morning depending on whether I'm planning to do gardening so needs to be warmer. Then if I go out in the evening I will get changed again.

EasterDecoration · 31/03/2026 12:37

Ah, non-changer with a velcro cat here but she doesn't use her claws much and we have a good clothes brush for stray pet hair. I go straight out nearly every day so it's always straight into whatever suits the destination and usually stay in the same unless its exercise.

Emmz1510 · 31/03/2026 13:07

Usually once, in the morning. I don’t garden (or exercise enough!) but I can see why you
would change for those things. I would usually only change if there was an abrupt and unpredicted change in the weather, or if I was going out someplace nice in the evening.

Voneska · 31/03/2026 13:36

I did not realise but I do change my clothes during the day. I will change into my old clothes for gardening or DIY JOBS, I will change for visiting neighbour. Or going out shopping or for a Lunch appointment. I will change into church clothes, absolute BEST outfit. So ONE OUTFIT DOESN'T FIT ALL in my book....he he he but everyone's different...I even thought I spotted someone at church wearing JACKET over PJ BOTTOMS !!!!! L. O. L.

Solange23 · 31/03/2026 14:22

I change quite often. Already today have showered and put on house clothes, then changed to go out for quick lunch. Now changing into gardening clothes and, when finished back into house clothes again - jumper. Joggers etc. If at home all day, then only one change but otherwise many during the day to suit the different occasions. Thought this was pretty normal but maybe not! 🤔

mondaytosunday · 31/03/2026 14:34

I don’t change unless going to the gym, though more likely I’d dress for the gym and after I’ve been (even if later in the day) change after. If I’m out with the dog I just wear appropriate clothes for that, which is my usual clothes plus boots if muddy. I’m not traipsing through the wilderness. It doesn’t require a special dog walking outfit. So same clothes all day unless at the gym. Obviously if going out for a special night/celebration I’ll dress up but that’s like a once or twice a year event.

Iamdefinitelynamechangingforthis · 31/03/2026 14:37

Change for work
comfy indoor once home; outdoor if going out
jimjams around 8pm.

Judging by the amount of washing DD creates, she changes every hour, on the hour, including overnight. And her socks have a breeding programme.

itsgettingweird · 31/03/2026 14:41

Lots!

get up and out on gym kit. Take ds swim training and go to the gym.

shower and change into work clothes.

get home from work and put on clothes to take ds back to swim training.

If im at home I wear slobby clothes that I clean and garden in but would change to go out and back into slobs again when I’m home!

Then PJs for bed.

sometimes I get in from work and shower and put PJs straight on (rare but a bloody lovely treat when I can!!!!)

Ihaveaskedyouthrice · 31/03/2026 14:47

Oh god, multiple times
Get up and put on yesterday's clothes as have to get the kids ready for school. One with additional needs so can be messy getting him showered/fed etc.
Change into fresh exercise clothes when walking to school.
Home and into shower and into normal clothes.
Then once all school runs/activities etc done might change into slouchy/pjs. (If there's a long gap between coming home from school run and going out again I'll often change into slouchies for a few hours and then back onto my normal clothes 🤷)
