How many times do you change clothes during a typical day?

Scintillating question right?! 😄

Friend is staying with me and remarked upon how many times I change my clothes over the course of the day.
So I wake up, shower, then put on my outfit depending on whether I am WFH, going out to work or have a day off. Outfit also changes if I am planning on exercising or gardening. She thinks I’m bonkers as she is of the ‘one outfit fits all’ concept (apart from gym wear, she allows for that 😁)
We are long time friends so only jokingly ribbing each other, just interested in which stance you take?

So you get dressed for the day and then change if exercising, which your friend agrees with?

How many more times did you change?

Tryagain26 · 31/03/2026 14:51

I wear the same outfit all day normally.

NewYearNewMee · 31/03/2026 14:53

Wake up - put on PJs for coffee downstairs / breakfast. Get into outdoor clothes for a walk / gym session. Come home, change for WFH. After work, put on outdoor clothes if I’m going out (walk / shopping etc). Pop on evening lounge clothes if I am not leaving the house, possibly PJs later too. So maybe 5/6 😂

binnibonnieboo · 31/03/2026 15:09

Get up, get dressed. That's it unless I go to the. gym

I'm gobsmacked, so many changes

Oh god, multiple times
Get up and put on yesterday's clothes as have to get the kids ready for school. One with additional needs so can be messy getting him showered/fed etc.
Change into fresh exercise clothes when walking to school.
Home and into shower and into normal clothes.
Then once all school runs/activities etc done might change into slouchy/pjs. (If there's a long gap between coming home from school run and going out again I'll often change into slouchies for a few hours and then back onto my normal clothes 🤷)

I may be miss reading this, but why do you need special exercise clothes to walk kids to school?

begonefoulclutter · 31/03/2026 15:15

Weekdays
1 get up and change out of nightwear into work clothes
2 come home from work and change into normal clothes
3 put nightwear on and go to bed

Weekends
1 get up and change out of nightwear into normal clothes
2 reverse the above when I go to bed

Not very exciting, I'm sure you'll agree.

mamaduckbone · 31/03/2026 15:15

Get dressed for work, get dressed into comfies when home from work.
Or, at the weekend, get dressed for running then into normal clothes, or dress for gardening / walk then into nicer clothes.

stapletonsguitar · 31/03/2026 16:22

I tend to use yesterday’s top to go out for my walk in the morning, then shower when I get home and put on clean clothes. I’d change into gym clothes if I have a class, or put on different clothes for an evening out.

Once a day usually. Twice sometimes.

MinnieMountain · 31/03/2026 16:36

Generally I wear the same clothes all day because my main exercise is swimming. I've just started back at the local lido, so extra-warm clothes are necessary for straight afterwards.

canuckup · 31/03/2026 16:43

Hmm, interesting topic.
Perhaps 2?

I walk for an hour so like to wear leggings and runners.

BringBackCatsEyes · 31/03/2026 16:51

So your friend changes to exercise but thinks you’re crazy for changing your clothes to exercise?

RottenApplesSpoilTheLot · 31/03/2026 16:53

mondaytosunday · 31/03/2026 14:34

I don’t change unless going to the gym, though more likely I’d dress for the gym and after I’ve been (even if later in the day) change after. If I’m out with the dog I just wear appropriate clothes for that, which is my usual clothes plus boots if muddy. I’m not traipsing through the wilderness. It doesn’t require a special dog walking outfit. So same clothes all day unless at the gym. Obviously if going out for a special night/celebration I’ll dress up but that’s like a once or twice a year event.

but but but... where do you put the dog treats? soggy balls? poo bags?

I do admit to occasionally find a roll of poo bags in my "good" coat - but that's usually because I've had to take a dog to the vet and have actually remembered to pick them up.

I've the tried the belts and bags for treats, but too fiddly to give instant rewards, so they go in the left hand pocket. Soggy balls go in the right hand pocket along with the roll of poo bags.

old trousers are definitely needed where I live - you can guarantee that if I'm in a rush and wearing good trousers someones dog will put a mucky paw on them - sods law.

Goldfsh · 31/03/2026 16:54

I suspect outfit changes may correlate with how clumsy you are.

I am spectacularly clumsy so change for gardening, decorating, baking or anything likely to be dropped down my front.

DanaScullysLegoHair · 31/03/2026 16:58

I put something comfy on if not going out but always get changed into my 'cooking' clothes to make dinner. It makes my around the house clothes last longer and I don't walk around smelling of whatever I've made. I get changed again after dinner, into PJ's after a bath or when I've tidied up.

I'd get changed into joggers and a jumper to nip to the corner shop, something like jeans and a better top/jacket to go further afield.

Listlostlast · 31/03/2026 16:59

Get up, shower etc and get dressed for the day, then get undressed for bed in the evening, although will chuck on my waterproof overalls for when I’m around the yard and farm and I wear an apron for cooking and baking. I’m one of those people who’s happy to sit and watch tv in jeans with my bra still on though so 🤷‍♀️ I’m a SAHM, effectively.

Catcatcatcatcat · 31/03/2026 17:00

One outfit a day here unless I am going out for dinner or something.

NewYearNewMee · 31/03/2026 17:03

@binnibonnieboowell I can’t go walking in PJs and can’t work in my workout clothes 😂 so that’s automatically 3 outfits! Not counting the evening bits 😂 what do you do?

henlake7 · 31/03/2026 17:19

About 4/5 times.

Dog walking outfit
then gym gear
then everyday outfit
sometimes loungewear for the evening
then pjs.

steppemum · 31/03/2026 17:33

get up and put on dog walking clothes. (muddy fields, sweaty from going up the hill and gritty pocket full of dog treats)
walk dog
come home and change into regular clothes for the rest of the day

If gardening (or doing a dirty job like clearing out the garage) will switch back to dog jeans as they are already muddy

If painting, will switch to old painty clothes.

But I have never done the thing where you wear work clothes and then change when you get home, or wear 'house' clothes and change to go out to the shops, and I am happy to sit in regular clothes in front of TV in the evening as my clothes are perfectly comfortable!

So a bit of both

ErrolTheDragon · 31/03/2026 17:43

Depends what I’m doing - usually put on something comfortable like leggings (shorts in hot weather) and tshirt for bumbling around the house, then change into either jeans, walking trousers or smarter ones if I go out (or dress/skirt in summer) and may or may not put a better top on. For gardening I change trousers in the utility room and add old fleece/ancient walking coat as apt as I’m incapable of doing more than light deadheading without ending up muddy.

steppemum · 31/03/2026 19:12

Oh and definitely bra on!
I find it really uncomfortable to be flopping around.
I think bra off people need to find more comfortable bras!

PeriPrime · 31/03/2026 19:15

Working day: work clothes. Come home and change into non-work casual clothes. Then pyjamas.

non-working day: work out clothes. Day clothes for leaving the house. Come home and change into casual clothes. Then Pyjamas.
