Kharg island seems a bit pointless to invade to me, because the production is not there. I tried to find a feeder pipe map ( but maps pretty much banned where I am). There is a pipe from inland about 160 km long, and offshore fields so far as I can see.

So Trump gets Kharg. What then ? Iran switches off the oil that feeds into Kharg then blows up the rest of the Gulf.

Trump is stood there like a right Herbert, surrounded by dead marines, dripping oil tap in his hand while all around burns.

“If a country wants to send some oil into Cuba right now, I have no problem. I prefer letting it in, whether it’s Russia or anybody else, because the people need heat and cooling and all of the other things that you need,”

Trump suggests US will allow Russian oil tanker to reach Cuba | CNN

The Russian tanker Anatoly Kolodkin, carrying 100,000 tons of oil for humanitarian purposes, has arrived in Cuba, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport.

whoTFismadelaine · 30/03/2026 09:37

The aim to Make Russia Palatable Again through a desperate global need for oil has worked then. Bravo Tango.

I predict a lot more civilian uprising in various countries opposed - vigilante's bombing US and Israeli companies/outposts. Wait for the costs to keep mounting for people's day to day living costs (already started) and you'll see that the world knows who to blame.

Sounds cool though, Kharg Island, expect he hasn't thought much further than that...

What do you mean by civilian uprisings in countries opposed ? Opposed to what/who ?

I mean opposed to this US/Israeli war. Russia, China and Africa could benefit from this but the rest of the world is going to pay the prices.

Ahh. So you think there will be uprisings against Governments ? In places such as the Philippines for example ? They have been hit hard.

logicisall · 30/03/2026 10:04

Going back to post upthread about Vance and the Pope, it is my firm belief that his late conversion to Catholicism was a purely political move. In the last US elections, solely for anti abortion reasons, the Catholic church TOLD congregrations to vote for Trump. This reason alone explains is why so many anti abortionists remain MAGAts.

whoTFismadelaine · 30/03/2026 10:05

I think there will be some civilians in many countries who will blame US and Israel and attack iconic companies/diplomatic buildings to make a point increasingly as the knock-on effects of this war escalate.

The recent firebombing of Jewish ambulances being one example.

New checkpoints put up in Kuwait and people now being stopped in the streets for phone checks.
In UAE, random people being hauled out of public transport for phone checks, and anyone outside during alerts will be arrested.
Even sharing photos of current flooding will result in arrest.

Unintended consequences sure, but how is all this fitting into Trump's unknown aims for his ME junket?
Answers on a postcard plse.

It makes sense for the US to take Kharg island because it's Iran's main export hub. After all, what is the sense of getting oil out of the ground if you can't store it or sell it.

However, there will be a cost to taking it that involves more than just $$$$$, pollution and marines returning home in coffins. China has a vested interest in keeping Iranian oil imports coming, so how will they react?

To neutralise Iran, Kharg island will also have to be taken simultaneously with gaining control over SoH. Can this be done with limited US casualties? Can the US guarantee that Iran won't be willing to sabotage KI itself? What about the Houtis in the Red Sea?

It's a can of worms just when the WH admin and Armed Forces has been hollowed out of experienced personnel. How on earth can Trump think any 2 minute video briefing can set out the complexity of the situation? No wonder he talks utter tripe all the time.

I can hear some equally crazy Iranian saying "f* this!". BOOM!

You are starting to realise why tactical nuclear weapons exist.

Ahh. So you think there will be uprisings against Governments ? In places such as the Philippines for example ? They have been hit hard.

I think general CoL increases as well as a lack of domestic cooking gas eg India, will foster civic disorder that their governments will have to deal with. In the UK for example, the gov't is looking at ways to help people who depend on oil heating. We are just starting the farming year, but with costs feeding through, by autumn we will be in recession, if not before.

MAD, innit.

That was more strategic - hence the SALT talks.

Of course Trump using a tactical nuke means it's OK for Putin to do the same. It would also drive a scramble for all countries that can to develop their own nuclear weapons and pretty much justify Irans actions in seeking to secure their own weapon.

Luckily for any countries who are looking to "go nuke" there will be a surfeit of scientists around to help them. Most from the US where they clearly are not welcome.

And Vance appears to have the Pope on his back. The first American Pope at that.

I admit, I am usually dismissive, without evidence. of politicians who proclaim faith. But I am thinking it might just be possible that Vance does take his Catholicism seriously.

I think Biden was more of a "cultural Catholic". Took it serious but not devout. If that makes sense. So he was able to grapple with the abortion issue being against his faith easier.

But Vance converted later in life (as did Blair), so maybe he really is grappling with the contradictions. Remember too, Trump sets records for the US death sentence on top of all this. And he is a warmonger, anti immigrant, a false prophet even ?

But hey, I am atheist. So come on Leo, get your Papal sharpie out and start signing some of the excommunication executive orders. And make sure you send Vance the sharpie you use to sign his.

( Disclaimer - I mean no offence to anyone of faith, apart from Vance, Goebbels Barbie, Kegsbreath etc)

I admit, I am usually dismissive, without evidence. of politicians who proclaim faith. But I am thinking it might just be possible that Vance does take his Catholicism seriously.

I think you must have much more faith in human nature than I do. I have yet to see anything in Vance's life up to this point that points to anything other than someone who should have a diagnosis code rather than the second most powerful position in the world (up to this point, that scale might be rapidly changing).

The man is an absolute sociopath. There is nothing morally consistent in his entire being. Excommunicate him and he won't give the smallest shit. He'll just weaponise it into yet another division. He positively and actively embraces the people and mindset that his wife and children are second class, if that.

Edited

I don't totally disagree. however, as a PP said there are possible benefits to this as the switch to green energy is accelerated. And just as Covid changed the workplace for many, this might change reliance on oil.

For example, some Australian states are making public transport free. And I think that in general terms, once a move like that is made, it can be difficult to undo it. And if people switch to busses and leave the car at home, services should improve.

I think it goes deeper than that. Reagan and his star wars for example. The Soviets protested because it changed the equilibrium of MAD.

And I think the same can be said of anti missile defences and the Iron Dome, and Trumps wanted Golden dome. That once a nation feels impervious to a conventional attack from outside, some folk in that nation will use that to attack the outside.

I don't think Israel would be bombing Iran if they did not have the Iron Dome.

But my thinking needs more work. India and China for example agreed to take guns away from their troops in the disputed border area. And they ended up clubbing each other to death. So there is that I suppose.

I bet Trump lays awake at night pondering these things :-)

Apparently the US Army has requested tenders for portable defensive structures that can be quickly erected to protect troops from artillery, drone and missile strikes.

The fact I know this doesn't bode well for the US. It's not impossible that the Iranians can read English.

Luckily for the US, it's ally - the UK - has a lot of experience in such materiel.

Pentagon asks for pre-made bunkers that can be quickly shipped to the Middle East

Interested contractors were asked to submit three options for different estimated time frames: 3 days, 15 days and 30 days.

I’m guessing Trumps plan is to try to drag everyone into his mess and then walk away figuring he has the Atlantic to protect him, probably try to swipe Greenland too to ‘protect it’

We have seen the US go from superpower to world power in 4 months.

I have to say it is deeply impressive.

I came here after a Quick Look at the BBC news online - one post re Iran having a type of toll booth on the Strait and the next about Trump saying there’s a deal and/or thinking he can just like have Kharg Island - or take it, wasn’t that clear.

I am confused - I had to accept watching it play out with no clue of next events or potential ending but the different sides messages get more disparate by the day. However, Trump’s ‘Will I, won’t I’ is beyond ridiculous now and so game like that I’m now more tempted to think he’s just letting himself and his mates play the markets - seemingly oblivious to the absolute devastating shitshow he unleashed - like it’s some sort of video game.

On the "other threads" some suggest he is really clever, and the real stuff is secret, and and and. I spent the weekend on "other threads". I was told I am like a flat earther, I was accused of harassment, and they said I was "smitten" by a poster. All because I asked for evidence that backed up a claim made. Evidence is a "gut feeling" apparently. Same thinking process as Scrotus I suppose.

I can imagine when the turd is holding court in Merde de Lardo. Surrounded by his sycophants as an intel team enter to give a briefing on Iran.

"Oi four eyes, when were you last laid, nerd"

No wait sorry. I think that is Lindsey Grahams chat up line :-)
