It makes sense for the US to take Kharg island because it's Iran's main export hub. After all, what is the sense of getting oil out of the ground if you can't store it or sell it.
However, there will be a cost to taking it that involves more than just $$$$$, pollution and marines returning home in coffins. China has a vested interest in keeping Iranian oil imports coming, so how will they react?
To neutralise Iran, Kharg island will also have to be taken simultaneously with gaining control over SoH. Can this be done with limited US casualties? Can the US guarantee that Iran won't be willing to sabotage KI itself? What about the Houtis in the Red Sea?
It's a can of worms just when the WH admin and Armed Forces has been hollowed out of experienced personnel. How on earth can Trump think any 2 minute video briefing can set out the complexity of the situation? No wonder he talks utter tripe all the time.
