Cadburys in Ireland - Original Recipe?

Irish lovely people,

Can you tell me if it’s true the Cadburys over there is the original recipe (before Kraft took over and pumped it full of palm oil)?

I’m coming to Dublin in a couple of weeks and if you have original Cadburys I plan on buying A LOT. Not all of it, I’ll leave some for you.

Thanks!

I grew up across the road from Cadburys in Coolock. My mum worked there for a while in the early 70s.

I had always heard that the Irish chocolate was better than the UK produced.chocolate but would assume it’s all similar now due to Mondelez and shitty palm oil.

I'm Irish - Cadburys today tastes completely different from when I was young. I remember letting the chocolate melt on my tongue - it doesn't do that now. And it would leave a lovely chocolatety taste afterwards in your mouth - it doesn't do that now.

I think that it looks the same but does NOT taste the same. It is made with palm oil and has a low cocoa content. Very disappointing.

Does anyone have a chocolate they would recommend that tastes like Cadbury used to taste like in the nineties?!

Whittakers in New Zealand does, but unfortunately slightly more travel required

Most of us are complaining on this thread about Cadbury’s and how their chocolate doesn’t taste as nice as it used to.
You know what.
They don’t care !
They are laughing all the way to the bank.
Sky News is reporting that they are the UK’s biggest brand.
It’s the brand UK shoppers spent the most on last year.
Up 4.1% from the previous year.
We’ll end up with that ghastly American style chocolate.
Hersheys anyone 🤢

Oh yeah Hersheys is terrible.

I was in Aldi yesterday and I was looking at their chocolate. The Mister Roth milk chocolate looks good. No palm oil or nasties. I didn’t buy any to try though as they only had the pack of individually wrapped 5 bars which worked out expensive. Next time I see a big bar I’ll try one out.

Butlers Cafe (chocolate shop too ) give you a chocolate when you buy a drink- you choose the one you want.
Their cappuccino is lovely.
They also do delicious toasties but I think they have sadly dropped their magnificent mushroom one.

Amazing thanks to you and @Catlady007007 There’s one right near to our hotel!

Glad you like Butlers @FlyingUnicornWings
Cadbury’s Twirls might still be nice. They were made in Ireland. Not sure if that is still the case. Check the packaging for OCO
Cadbury’s StarBars are lovely with a hot cup of coffee or cup of tea.

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 26/03/2026 17:26

Damn Brexit, used to order Butlers but shipping cost now ridiculous. Am looking forward to stocking up on a trip in April. bring on the Himalayan salted caramels …

Marmite27 · 26/03/2026 17:32

Irish Cadburys is much nicer, but it still has palm oil, so I doubt it’s the original recipe.

It's far from the original recipe.

Remember when the advert for Cadburys involved two glasses of milk being poured together into the chocolate? It would be two glasses of palm oil now!

Yes.
The ad went “……a glass and a half…….”
It was so delicious.
Did someone in Mondolez say
“I have a great idea.
Let’s buy a chocolate manufacturing business where they make delicious chocolate and we can then f*ck it up.”

I hate to disappoint you but i live in Ireland and of late it doesn’t taste like cadburys anymore and just tastes like sweet palm oil laden crap . They removed chocolate from the labelling ages ago and it tastes even worse recently. It’s a pity because it was always my favourite chocolate I don’t even like Lindt . I think chocolate orange is probably the best chocolate out there at the moment.
