AI destroying the internet ?

Mum7644885 · 08/03/2026 16:37

Just me or does it seem like any source of social media now is totally flooded with fake AI rubbish, literally 80% of what I see now looks fake. It’s destroying the internet, I want to remove myself from everything but same time it’s hard to, for simple things like using Facebook market place, asking for recs for companies, looking at local pages to see what is happening. I want to just cut off everything else.

does anyone else feel like weve just entered this awful stage where you don’t know what to believe any more ?

My law firm has banned its use, unlike others. Hopefully it will continue to value its human workforce!

I keep getting emails about CoCounsel Legal at work via TR. Can't wait for the fuck up from this.... Some things simply need humans

Sarah2891 · 09/03/2026 09:22

Yep, social media is ruined. I hate second guessing everything I see.

Yep. We've had this discussion at work. Our specific job needs a human involved.

Might be smart business decision as well. I would personally ask now if the firm uses AI if I was looking for legal rep. There will be plenty of people who will go to "we use humans" firms over AI usage

Bristolandlazy · 09/03/2026 09:35

It's going to ruin more than just the internet, scary times.

I've been very pissed off with SPOTIFY serving me AI music - and I can't opt out of it!

I'd cancel my subscription but I've got rid of most of my CDs now!! Unless they provide an option to opt OUT of AI music, I'll stop in a couple of months though.

This is fine - doesn't bother me. It's the fact that AI music is now being served up in 'suggested for you' - as about 40% of the tracks!

HarryVanderspeigle · 09/03/2026 10:50

It is the seed buying time of year and every 3rd picture of the grown plant is clearly ai. Driving me nuts, it's so obvious that anything really grown won't look like that.

God, that annoys me!

Likewise buying products which need assembly. The picture of the 'assembled' item is so often AI. The ASA shouldn't allow that.

We really need to start considering the nature of technology and what it is for, and what uses it should have going forward. Get rid of this lazy arsed ‘you can’t stop progress’ crap, what is progress? Ordinary people have lost as much access to technology as we gained. Ecology has to be the first standard, what use is technology and wealth for the few if the economy dies because the environment has died? What is wealth anyway?

Agree. And some of it is so good, it’s going to make it hard to know what’s real and what isn’t. Especially in this climate, someone could make a very convincing bomb threat , make it look like a news agency reporting on it and people would believe it.

This ! It’s destroying reality

100%

I agree. And all the search functions have gone to hell as the AI is filtering for what it thinks I want, and not what I have typed in.

AWedgeOfLemonAndASmartAnswerForEverything · 09/03/2026 12:57

It is shite, but the upside is that it's making me even more bored of the internet than I already was (I mean, AI is only slop because it's training itself on the slop people had already filled the internet with). It wouldn't be the end of the world if people turned back to real life for mental sustenance.

It's not though, it's destroying the internet. Actual reality is still out there.

keepswimming38 · 09/03/2026 13:02

I’ve taken Facebook off my phone. It’s quite a relief and a release actually.

Runnersandtoms · 09/03/2026 13:09

Yes and whenever someone posts a photo of something actually interesting or amazing people jump in to say it's probably AI.

UnaOfStormhold · 09/03/2026 13:33

hmmnotreallysure · 08/03/2026 17:52

It’s absolute shit. I wish I could opt out of it when I Google something, now I just scroll right down so as not to read the AI answer. I think it’s dangerous. I think that anything that’s AI needs a watermark so that people are aware that it’s AI. I think the negatives of it far outweigh the positives of it.

Adding the tag "-ai" to your search will stop Ai on most browsers. That said I kept forgetting so have just switched to Vivaldi browser which is EU owned, has much better data protection and doesn't have the automatic AI answer at the top.

Yes I agree, but at this point that requires intelligence and some reflection to remain in the present, than to be wrapped up into a warped reality. By that I mean, removing yourself entirely from social media platforms.

Some people live through social media and therefore their (reality) will become completely warped.

It's so worrying. I have a brother living in Bahrain, working in Saudi Arabia. Obviously he's on high alert due to Iranian attacks on Bahrain (he lives in the capital), but he said there's so much AI generated "news" footage he doesn't know what to believe. He saw footage that showed the causeway being bombed, but it turned out to be AI. His last message to me concluded - I know it's real when the windows rattle.

TonTonMacoute · 09/03/2026 13:49

In an incredibly short time we have gone from having the world of knowledge at our fingertips, to not being able to believe anything we see or read online. As a positive I now waste far less time looking at my SM, and more time reading good, old-fashioned books.

Pricesandvices · 09/03/2026 13:52

Yep. It's total junk. The Google AI answer is almost always basic bollocks too.

KnickerlessParsons · 09/03/2026 13:54

I don't think it will put us ALL out of jobs, but it won't be long before AI us using it's own content to produce responses to new questions - so AI will be AI'ing itself, and then we'll truly need to check everthing it outputs.

I've found it useful for things like drafting a business plan. I couldn't use the output word for word, but it did give me a good structure to work from.
