How much is your shampoo?

Statsquestion1 · 24/02/2026 19:27

How much do you spend on your shampoo?
how often do you wash your hair?
how long does the bottle last.

I spent about 36 on my shampoo and conditioner 300ml bottles.
I wash my hair about twice a week
It lasted nearly 3 months.

I don’t think that’s too bad for good shampoo. What about you?

Alfaparf about €25. Lasts a few months. Wash hair every second day

campista · 25/02/2026 08:41

My hair is fine and greasy and a lot of shampoos make my scalp itch. Tried them all. Cheap and expensive. Stumbled on Pantene repair last summer and have never looked back. No conditioner and wash my hair daily.

voidcat · 25/02/2026 08:47

oh and wash my hair once or twice a week

I alway use Aveda shampure shampoo and conditioner, I always buy the 1 litre bottles and shop around to find an offer. Price can range from about £50-£70

Nottogetapenny · 25/02/2026 08:53

Last me months

We use the big bottles of tresseme aswell. About £3 on Amazon. Family of five, lasts us a couple of months, but I'm the only one with long hair.

We all use different shampoos 🤣 my dd13 uses kerastase (she has her own en suite so it’s in there). DS and DH use head and shoulders. And I use my own.

I use Superdrug avocado shampoo good for my thick hair. Used to buy Redken but too pricey now

CandiedPrincess · 25/02/2026 09:31

I used to buy super cheap but I realised as I was getting older that it's doing nothing for my hair whatsoever. I'd say about £10-15 a bottle and my hair thanks me for it!

MakeYourOwnSunshine · 25/02/2026 09:35

36 quid for something that's going to get washed down the drain?!! I wash my hair every day. If I spend £3.50 on a bottle of shampoo that's me splashing out!

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 25/02/2026 09:43

Will avoid at all costs Tresemme which gave me horrible dermatitis….

Isobel201 · 25/02/2026 10:14

I get a pack of two Clarify and Shine Apple cider vinegar shampoo from Amazon for £13 (can't get it locally from my supermarkets) and Aussie conditioner usually £10 from Tesco. I wash my hair twice a week and the conditioner and shampoo usually last over 6 weeks.

How much does an Essex Girl pay for her shampoo

Pantene :-)

youbizarrehorse · 25/02/2026 10:25

Garnier Ultimate Blends Coconut Hair Food, both the shampoo and conditioner. Normally about £6 for a 350ml bottle but can usually pick it up on offer for a third or half off. DS1 has same wavy frizz prone hair as me, so he uses it too. Lasts us maybe 4 weeks at a stretch. He uses far too much and washes his hair more often than me. I wash mine about twice a week, so would probably last me about 12 weeks on my own.

xogossipgirlxo · 25/02/2026 10:26

8 pounds aveeno and purple shampoo 7 pounds. I tried high end shampoos and many aren’t worth it.

That gave me a laugh this morning, thank you!

Isn’t hair you can see essentially dead? Vosene at around £2 and supermarket conditioner at £1. I am somewhat bemused by amounts people spend to coat dead hair.

If you had frizzy awful hair you’d pay anything in desperation 😆

AsimpleOstrich · 25/02/2026 13:12

I use Vichy Dercos shampoo at around £22. I have scalp dermatitis and it's the only one that clears it. I wash my hair twice a week and it lasts around 6 weeks.
I use Matrix detangling conditioner which is also around £22 for a litre. I only need to use a tiny amount and it lasts around 3 months, that includes my teenage twin daughters using it too. We all have long hair and I used to spend a fortune on conditioners bought from the supermarket, none of them were any good for my naturally curly hair.

It is ‘dead‘ but that doesn’t mean its appearance and quality can’t be improved. It’s still a porous material that responds to treatment. Same with fingernails.

Natural wood furniture is ‘dead’. A pair of leather boots are ‘dead’. But they both look a lot better, and remain stronger and more supple, if you clean them with the correct products and polish them the right polish/oil/balm which is absorbed into the wood / leather and keeps it flexible, shiny and less prone to cracking and flaking.

Exactly the same thing applies to hair and nails.

I’ve got short, straight hair in a blunt vintage style bob. If I wash my hair in something like Vosene and use a £1 conditioner it becomes weak, dull and brittle and I get awful flyaways and split, rough ends. If I wash it in a salon-brand strengthening shampoo and a decent silicon-free conditioner, it stays strong, shiny and sleek.

If Vosene works for you and your hair looks and feels its absolute best, then great! It’s clearly right for your hair. But it certainly isn’t right for all (or even most) hair.

A shampoo like Vosene also rips the colour out of dyed or toned hair very quickly.

BauhausOfEliott · 25/02/2026 13:45

I usually use one in the Schwarzkopf Bonacure range. It’s not usually sold in shops as it’s designed for salons and salons charge an extortionate price for it, but I buy it in a big 1 litre bottle online from wherever has the best deal. Currently about £20 on Amazon. It lasts me ages because I’ve got short hair and don’t need to use much.

Conditioner I’m pretty fickle about. Any strengthening or volumising formula that doesn’t contain silicone (silicone usually weighs my hair down and makes it greasy and dull) is usually OK. Currently using an Umberto Giannini one. No idea how much it cost.

Flannek · 25/02/2026 13:49

i use redken acidic bonding concentrate, which is £26 a bottle.
i wash mine every day doing a double wash and lasts me about 2 months

scabbyfanny · 25/02/2026 13:52

I use loreal pro shampoo which is about £19 for 500ml and will last me 3 months of washing 3 times a week.Conditioner wise I use loreal professional molecular mask which is about 30 quid for a 500ml tub and this lasts me about 6 weeks -I do probably use too much and use it every washing as my hair is over coloured, over straightened and generally a bit shit .

Morepositivemum · 25/02/2026 15:02

Another for herbal essences that I get on offer. Kids use that or head and shoulders. We buy about every three weeks I think

mondaytosunday · 25/02/2026 15:13

£1.90 for 400ml (Dove 2 in 1). I wash my hair about two/three times a week. I colour it every other month (should really do every six weeks), use L’Oreal and it’s £7-12/ pack depending if on offer. Hair cut four times a year £75.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 25/02/2026 15:18

I spent just under €70 on Aveda Blue Malva which only comes in 1 litre bottles (I transfer it into a smaller bottle for ease of use). It was in the January sale so it's usually closer to or possibly over €80. I wash my hair every 5 days and I only need a small amount compared to regular shampoo, perhaps a third or a quarter of what a regular shampoo would be. I last bought a bottle in 2019. I'm allergic to most supermarket shampoos, and my hair is quite dry and brittle so I'm careful about what I use.

I use OGX Biotin and Collagen conditioner which is about €6 and lasts five or six weeks.
