How much is your shampoo?

Statsquestion1 · 24/02/2026 19:27

How much do you spend on your shampoo?
how often do you wash your hair?
how long does the bottle last.

I spent about 36 on my shampoo and conditioner 300ml bottles.
I wash my hair about twice a week
It lasted nearly 3 months.

I don’t think that’s too bad for good shampoo. What about you?

We buy Tresseme in big bottles (600ml?) from the supermarket. Cost about £5 each for shampoo and conditioner. I wash my hair once a week maybe.

No idea how long they last as 4 of us using them, but would probably last me 6 months if it was just me.

Rubberduck01 · 24/02/2026 20:48

I use whatever shampoo/ conditioner is on offer providing its leaping bunny certified. I spend approx £10 for the two. I was my hair everyday and it lasts about 1 month.

fruitypancake · 24/02/2026 20:53

£20 a bottle , I would say it lasts 3-4 months, wash hair every 2-3 days . Currently using a cheap conditioner but considering a better one

£57 per litre each but last ages.

ILiveForTheYadaYada · 24/02/2026 21:05

My hair is bleached and I use the same shampoo my hairdressers uses which is Keratase. I buy a 1 litre bottle for £68 from Amazon. I think it lasts 10 months and I do a second shampoo every time I wash my hair. I wash it twice a week maybe 3 times.

My conditioner is also Keratase £35 for 200ml and that lasts the same amount of time.

I have tried all sorts of shampoos, rice water ones, cheaper ones from the supermarket but always come back to the Keratase.

Aldi's Aussie Moisture dupes, £1.39 each - 300ml bottles.

fairycakesandtea7 · 24/02/2026 21:59

£14 a bottle (I have to spend this due to allergies) it lasts about 8 weeks. I wash my hair between once or twice a week

TheChosenTwo · 24/02/2026 22:10

At the moment I’m using Ouai shampoo and conditioner, about £30 a bottle I think? I use the shampoo in about 3 months washing twice a week but rarely condition my hair so it lasts for absolutely ages and it’s not a fair test as I do switch out if I feel my hair needs something elsewhere. sometimes I use Living Proof and sometimes Charlotte Mensah Manketti stuff.

£2 for shampoo and £2 conditioner herbal essences. Wash hair twice a week and it lasts about 3 months. I do think hard or soft water can make a big difference to how much you need to use

whatwasthatnoise · 24/02/2026 22:20

Gruum shampoo bar, £9 each, lasts me 4+ months. I wash my shoulder length hair twice a week.
I buy a 5L bottle of Faith In Nature conditioner, I keep a smaller bottle in the bathroom that I refill. This is the first big bottle I've bought, and it was on offer. I'm hoping it'll last most of the year.

canuckup · 24/02/2026 22:21

I buy cheap shampoo for greasy hair

I have about a million bottles in the cupboard

I'd say each bottle lasts twenty washes (I double wash each time)

Tulipvase · 24/02/2026 22:22

I wash my hair everyday. Currently using body shop ginger shampoo which is £18 for 3/400ml. Lasts a month maybe? Conditioner I don’t worry so much about and get what’s on offer. I also use nizoral shampoo sporadically.

PeonyBulb · 25/02/2026 03:51

I used my Aveda Shampure shampoo and conditioner tonight which I use every couple of months to clarify my hair. But my day to day shampoo and conditioner currently are Pantene which is working really well for my long fine hair

Nevermind17 · 25/02/2026 04:00

I buy whatever is on offer, usually around £4 a bottle. I wash my hair every day.

I used to spend a fortune on shampoo and conditioner. When I was made redundant 20 years ago I had to cut my cloth and began using cheap stuff. I realised that it made absolutely zero difference to my hair, and I’d wasted an absolute fortune being ‘marketed’ to. I swore that I’d never go back to wasting money, no matter how rich I became in future. I have had a fair bit of ‘lifestyle creep’ since then but I’m sticking with the cheapo shampoo!

Pretty much the same here. I used to use the salon brands Pureology, Kerastase, Newtrin, Matrix the list goes on.
I had a sample bottle of Pantene in the cupboard and used that.
My hair is so much better using the Pantene so I have stuck with that.

I do not want to think about how much money I have wasted over the years looking for the perfect one for me.

Conditioner similar. My dd left behind OGX so I tried that. Also so great for my hair so I will buy more when I've finished off this bottle.

ThePoshUns · 25/02/2026 05:07

I use Faith in Nature, about £5-6 a bottle? I wash and condition twice a week, so bottles last a few months. Like others I’ve tried more expensive brands and can’t see they’re worth the money.

EveryDayisFriday · 25/02/2026 05:21

I use Pantene or L'Oréal. If I change, I always regret it and end up going back.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 25/02/2026 05:36

I buy Aldi dupes of shampoo and conditioner. Couple of pounds a bottle and DH and DD1 use them too. I wash mine daily and DD does hers every other day.

Not been monitoring it but I’d guess the shampoo lasts about a month and conditioner about 2 weeks.

OneWorthyLemonCat · 25/02/2026 06:04

I've always bought Treseme because you get about a litre for £3! I'm now using a brand called Monday (similar price point), purely because the bottles are pink and attractive, and the shampoo and conditioner fit side by side really neatly in our shower caddy!
I used to wash my hair daily, but I'm now washing it around 3 times a week and using dry shampoo in between. And I try to only heat style it once a week.

Auburngal · 25/02/2026 06:19

I don’t know how can anyone wash their hair with the same shampoo wash after wash.

If I did that, my hair - which is thick, loses its body.

Have 6 shampoos on the go. A mix of branded shampoo and Lidl’s dupes. Their Aussie and Elvive are excellent.

Even on holiday I take 3 bottles.

I wash my hair every other day. Apart from when I come back from a womble group pick (litter picking) I wash my hair when I get home as properly got covered in stuff

Treacling · 25/02/2026 06:22

I too swap between Aussie, Alberto Balsam and currently an Aldi dupe of Alberto balsam. My hair seems to get used to the same product so I need to switch. All are cheap - 3.50 for Aussie approx.

OneWorthyLemonCat · 25/02/2026 06:40

I've never heard of switching between different shampoos, as stupid as that sounds!

Nomedshere · 25/02/2026 07:19

I buy 1 litre bottles of Goldwell shampoo/ conditioner. Last ages

This. Seems to do the job. I don’t know why anyone would spend more!

saltandvinegarpringles · 25/02/2026 07:26

I wash my hair everyday and spend around £6 a month.
