How much is your shampoo?

Statsquestion1 · 24/02/2026 19:27

How much do you spend on your shampoo?
how often do you wash your hair?
how long does the bottle last.

I spent about 36 on my shampoo and conditioner 300ml bottles.
I wash my hair about twice a week
It lasted nearly 3 months.

I don’t think that’s too bad for good shampoo. What about you?

£25 for Amika which I think is 250mls.

falalalaa · 25/02/2026 07:26

I buy Aussie shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair. Leaves my hair so soft. I have long hair and wash it every day so don’t anticipate to spend loads. £10 for 3 usually.

somanychristmaslights · 25/02/2026 07:28

I use Wella, not sure how long it lasts but it feels ages!! It’s £20

I have about 40 different ones and swap them every few days. At one stage I had over 100 different bottles - I just get bored with the same shampoo and conditioner!

AwayADay · 25/02/2026 07:33

Think it was around £40 for both shampoo & conditioner . Neither does anything better than cheapy ones and infact gave the conditioner to a friend as it made my hair greasy .
Purchased as a special offers I was taken in by that . Brand was Phillip Kingsley and wouldn't buy again .

Statsquestion1 · 25/02/2026 07:34

I have just finished a redken one and loved it. Before that I had a kerastase one and it was nice too but I didn’t love it as such, I was gifted an alfaparf set at Christmas so I have just started on that one. It smells great and feels good so far. Most supermarket shampoos just left my hair dull and dry or greasy and clumpy tbh. Would love to get away with spending less!

I buy whatever is on offer, trying to avoid spending more than £3 a bottle.
If something I like is on offer I do stock up a bit - I like Pantene, Herbal Essences and the garnier honey one. If nothing is on offer I get Alberto Balsam, or supermarket own brand.

I wash my hair every day, but don’t have much sense of how long a bottle lasts - though I do get through conditioner slightly faster than shampoo.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 25/02/2026 07:37

Aveda shampure, £22 for 250ml. Wash daily, lasts ages but not timed it.

AlwaysTheRenegade · 25/02/2026 07:43

We use the big bottles of tresseme aswell. About £3 on Amazon. Family of five, lasts us a couple of months, but I'm the only one with long hair.

voidcat · 25/02/2026 07:46

I use Aldi tropical essence as my hair likes it, lots of protein in it. Clarify with bumble and bumble Sunday shampoo once a week

rockinrobins · 25/02/2026 07:49

I get an M&S own brand one - £4 for a 500ml bottle.

I can't tell the difference between it and some really expensive brands that I've tried.

I think a lot of expensive shampoos are a rip off.

SingAling · 25/02/2026 07:49

Aveeno oat milk blend which costs me £5.50 for 300ml. I comb it through with my fingers before rinsing and find I don’t need a conditioner even though my hair is long and dyed.

Auburngal · 25/02/2026 07:52

My DM buys the cheap stuff in supermarkets- 60p. Ok for her fine hair. Not for my hair. I had to buy my own shampoo as a teen as she didn’t believe that I needed decent shampoo

Needcoffeeimmediatley · 25/02/2026 07:52

I use Sallys wunderbar range, it’s £20 for 1000ml and lasts me about a year, wash my hair twice a week

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 25/02/2026 07:55

Use pantene smooth and silky. It's the only one that works on my hair.

Used to wash every day when I travelled in to London but now just once a week.

500 ml lasts more months.

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 25/02/2026 07:57

I have a £20ish bottle of pureology hydrating shampoo - last ages as the tiniest amount does. I double shampoo every time.

also Aveeno Apple Cider Vinegar for a first shampoo clarify approx every 3 washes - great stuff. About £6 I think…

TrashPanda · 25/02/2026 07:58

Head and Shoulders, the 1L pump bottles from Amazon. DS1 uses it too, lasts about 6 months now I've chopped my hair. Tresemme moisture conditioner 600ml also lasts about 6 months, but only I use that. I wash my hair twice a week at most.

How big is your shower shelf? Where do you keep them all to have them at hand for this rotation? Do you have a favourite or do you find they pretty much all do the same job?

I agree with the poster mentioned swapping. I get the same if I only use one brand continuously. It is as if my hair becomes a bit lifeless and limp.

I am yet to find a conditioner that actually does much but I find hair masks to add shine and smoothness and a healthy look to my hair.

To answer to OP’s question I barely spend anything. I am not fussed what I use. I get gifted large bottles of salon size shampoos and conditioners, plus I get smaller sets with various beauty purchases I make, I also have a big stock of Elemis travel minis which I won’t get to use in my lifetime. If I ever find myself without shampoo I just buy a cheap Alberto Balsam.

I do spend on hair masks though and also make my own once a week.

MiddleAgedDread · 25/02/2026 08:07

£1.29 from Aldi and better than any expensive brands I’ve tried! Wash my hair most days, no idea how long it lasts as I have multiple bottles in different bathrooms and at work etc.

tractorreadyonthefarm · 25/02/2026 08:14

my hair is down passed my bum, ridiculously thick and been bleaching it for the last 5 years (used to be much longer before the bleach). I spend about £36 every 6 weeks on shampoo and conditioner and then £10 every so often for hair mask on top. I have no choice with the bleach. If my hair was shorter and not as thick I could easily make it last 3 months

kel7f6g · 25/02/2026 08:16

I’m using Blake Lively’s range at the moment, I can’t remember how much I bought it for as it was in the US, mid range I would say. I alternate between the 2 different scents so about 800ml in total and still have some nearly a year later! (I wash my hair 3-4 times a week but regularly switch out one wash with a silver shampoo, currently Lush’s Daddio).

I’m amazed how much shampoo you get through on that many washes, are you letting your hair get wet enough before adding shampoo? Makes such a difference to the lather (I learned that on here!!)

Ineedanewsofa · 25/02/2026 08:17

I use the M&S coconut and lychee shampoo and the conditioner, it’s £1.50 a bottle and lasts a couple of months. Order it on Ocado. As per pp, I used to spend a fortune on hair products but have noticed no difference in ‘downgrading’.

kel7f6g · 25/02/2026 08:17

Although reading the pp I forgot hair length will make a difference 😂 mine is stubbornly short (and thin).

elliejjtiny · 25/02/2026 08:23

I use the tesco own brand shampoo and conditioner and wash my hair about 3 times a week. We go through loads of the stuff, especially when ds1 is home from uni because me, ds1 and ds2 have long thick hair.

bugalugs45 · 25/02/2026 08:30

I bought olaplex last year on back Friday deal as it’s usually £80 ish each for both shampoo and conditioner , huge 1 litre bottles but I wouldn’t pay full price .
Ive never spent that much but menopause & weight loss were Making my hair fall out and i was panicking .
im still using them so 3 ish months later , but conditioner is almost empty . I do vary my shampoo/ conditioner though and use OGX the purple biotin one & Aussie too , as my hairdresser told me it’s good to change .
I wash my hair every day .
