Will it ever stop raining?

I moved from Manchester to London 30 years ago and have generally been pleased with how much drier it is down here. But it feels like it’s been raining forever now and it’s forecast to continue. It’s so boring having to take your umbrella everywhere. My memory’s not the best but I can’t remember when it’s last rained for so long.

I hope the summer is drier but who knows? ☔️

As someone who prefers it’s colder (not a fan of heat) I normally don’t mind the winter / rain. But I said this yesterday it seems to be raining more than normal and even I am getting a bit fed up so I feel for people aren’t a fan of winter and prefer summer.

JacknDiane · 08/02/2026 08:15

Im in west of Scotland and haven't even noticed the rain. Its just normal here.

And some rain has arrived! and for once presaged by the metallic smell that so characterised English rain, but you don't get it much here.

Will it ever stop raining? No, not here. I live in Cumbria and raining is what it does. I'm surprised I haven't developed webbed feet yet tbh.

That’s because we’ve had less rain than normal, unlike most of the country. It hasn’t been that bad here.

OneRealOchreHiker · 08/02/2026 08:23

I don’t think it is raining at the moment but sure it will start just as I leave the house to take the dog out. Not enjoying the muddy boots / muddy dog / muddy towels / washed towels / crazy hair and driving conditions that get your heart pumping.

You lot have actually had less rain than usual. I am in the east of the country and I can assure you it has been hellish. Do you have no friends or contacts in the north east? Surely you must have realised what a terrible time they are having.

Keepoffmyartichokes · 08/02/2026 08:24

Agree it's depressing. They were talking about it on the local news here yesterday and it's due to the just stream being blocked or something, so it's stuck over the UK and can't move. It's so depressing, poor DS comes home from school wet everyday (13 so won't consider an umbrella) his football was cancelled for the weekend, no matches or training allowed. Some of the teams in his league haven't played a match for 9 weeks!

We did have a very dry spring and summer last year though. So I assume that a dry winter would have been bad news (in terms of water levels etc).

This isbwhat l am trying to think about - hopefully no hosepipe bans in the summer.
But OP, l am sick of it, it is endless.

I work on a care farm. Outside all day, tending to animals and caring for people who are often quite sensitive to being cold, wet and uncomfortable. I love my job but these last few weeks have sucked the joy out of it. Knee deep in mud for 8 hours a day. Wearing layers of bulky Waterproofs and getting soaked through anyway. Wet straw getting everywhere. Grumpy sodden sheep. People having meltdowns left right and centre. Even the ducks are fed up and staying in their little house at this point.
on Friday we spent all day making paths of Woodchip to all the sheds and pens so we can get around without wading through slippery mud, and we will be doing that all this week I think as there are alot of paths to make on a 200 acre farm. Fed up.

Theunamedcat · 08/02/2026 10:40

It wasn't raining when I woke up its due to start soon what struck me was how wet everything was still the fences are sodden my garden is dripping is this a good argument for brick walls instead of wooden fences....maybe when I win the lottery 😂 everything is rotting at the moment French drains arnt cutting it

Playingvideogames · 18/02/2026 16:44

Still raining here. Hasn’t missed a day since I last posted

I feel like I’m trapped in the set of Wuthering Heights.

RainBow725 · 18/02/2026 18:01

Ironically it’s not been that wet in Manchester. I’ve been wondering what everyone is moaning about! 🤣

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 18/02/2026 21:36

It's still pissing it down in Cornwall and I've officially had enough. I've reached Writing to my MP/Handing in my Notice/Divorcing the Bastard point. Seriously on the brink of a mental breakdown. I don't think it will ever stop!!!! I would build an ark but wadayaknow, all the wood is sodden and the nails have rusted so that's the end of that plan...

Gnomer · 18/02/2026 21:41

BBC says raining nearly everyday for the next two weeks too, it's barely stopped since Christmas it seems. We're off on holiday next week and I can't wait.

Rabbitcar · 18/02/2026 22:00

It’s just so wet 😢 So bored of being welded to my umbrella when I leave the house. I don’t even think it means we’ll get a good summer.

We had gorgeous sunshine yesterday, sharp frost and cold all day. Cold and grey today and now it’s snowing.

Theunamedcat · 21/02/2026 15:33

It is once again raining today we also have an ice cream van going around where I live despite the freezing rain 😂

I'm in East Anglia, and it's much the same here. If anything I'd say there's been less rain than normal. The Met Office forecast always seems to be predicting rain which seldom materialises.

Rabbitcar · 25/02/2026 06:50

It’s been almost dry the last couple of days and is sunny today. Love it! Instant better mood and non frizzy hair. Don’t think it will last, but will
enjoy it today! ☀️Hope the weather is tolerable where you are.

That's one of my first considerations with the weather @Rabbitcar will my hair turn into a frizzy, wavy mess.

yesterday was glorious, lovely sunshine and about 12C, felt like a "good to be alive" day. Did a nice walk at lunchtime and felt overdressed for the first time in ages.

SideshowAuntSallyxx · 25/02/2026 07:37

We had a lovely spring day where I am yesterday, I sat outside watching the cats playing chase in the garden for the first time this year.

It was so nice to have some warmish sun on my face as well. The constant rain was getting really depressing.

HeadyLamarr · 25/02/2026 08:44

I sat outside for two hours yesterday afternoon and it was glorious
