What automatically makes you think people are idiots?

For me it’s:

people who think that Michael Jackson isn’t a pedophile.

people who say things like “Londanistan” “Bradfordistan”

People who say “If the Holocaust is real, why do the tattoo numbers only go up to 5 digits”

OP posts:
ShiftingSand · 05/02/2026 19:36

People who say they aren’t racists because they have a friend with dreadlocks but later make stereotypical comments about people from other cultures.
People who can’t be bothered to proof read their posts.
On fb and similar, the repetitive posts about dog poo found outside their houses - the culprits will definitely not be reading your rants (I’m shouting this).
People out in public with their mouths hanging open - definitely says gormless to me.

People who use words with “er” or “est” on the end. Such as cleverer or cleverest. Those postfixes are for words that end in the letter y only.

and sentences like “I can confirm that “ are somewhat irksome because they add no substance to anything. Just waffle

Words like big, small, fat, thin, tall, short, black, white, dark, pale, rich, poor, sharp, blunt, high, low, near, high, low, wide, narrow, long, clean, hard, soft, mean, kind, fast and slow, you mean?

MargaretThursday · 05/02/2026 19:38

People who don't recognise that other people's opinions or conclusions may be correct and try to shut them down by making a derisive comment about their opinion without any attempt to discuss it.

Limehawkmoth · 05/02/2026 19:40

For me really idiotic/stupid people by default are:
those who assert and believe they’re highly intelligent with massive confidence of it.

very intelligent people are characterised by, imhe

  1. curiosity
  2. the realisation of just how much they don’t know, and can’t do.
  3. are the least likely people to claim how exceptionally intelligent they are as they’re self aware of their limitations.

trump is the epitome of a true idiot. He absolutely believes he is massively intelligent, the mostest intelligent person in the world. And so he never questions himself, or shows curiosity, or extends his wisdom

Many quotes and studies on this inc Charles Darwin, Socrates or more recently part of the dunning-Kruger effect hypothesis.

AmazingGraced · 05/02/2026 19:42

People who think a good time equals a lot of alcohol and can’t conceive of having a good time without it
People who can’t spell
People who don’t read
People who get their news from the Daily Mail
Those who shove their religious views on others
Misogynistic men
Fake nails, fake tan and lip fillers
People who think their sexuality is of fascinating interest to others
People who ask questions and then don’t listen to the answer and talk about themselves to the point where you lose the will to live .

Zov · 05/02/2026 19:43

Thought of a few more.

People who use BOOMER as an insult, and blame them for anything and everything that is wrong in their life. (I'm GenX, so have no skin in the game.)

People who park on the road, when they have a driveway. (People who do this are a special kind of entitled thoughtless gonk.)

Anyone who calls God the Sky Fairy, or an 'imaginary friend.' (Always the sort of person to avoid, and ignore.)

Anyone who questions why anyone in the UK says MOM, instead of MUM. (Ignorant as fuck, and ignoring millions of people in the midlands.)

People who have SUVs/off road vehicles when they live in a city or town or suburb, and rarely even go near country roads.

People who put passive aggressive snarky posts on Facebook clearly aimed at someone, making their argument public. 'Sick of not being able to trust people I thought of as a friend.' Cue someone saying 'oh what's up hun?' .....and the person posting says 'can't say on here....' 🙄

People who have he/him or she/her in their bio online.

Anyone who has lip filler, BBL, or turkey teeth.

People who smoke cannabis. Vile habit. I can't believe they can't see how bad the stench is, and they're in total denial of what it's doing to their brain, their lungs and respiritatory system, and their I.Q. They are rarely bright people, and usually not well educated.

Anyone who dates anyone young enough to be their child (or old enough to be their parent!)

As another poster said ... atheists who get their children christened.

Also, people who have not put foot in a church more than 5 times in their life who get married in church. Hypocrisy overload!

I aso agree with the poster who said people who 'blend families' after being together about 6 months.

JurgenKloppsTeeth · 05/02/2026 19:43

People who pay for personalised number plates, or the 3D ones.

If your second-hand car came with them, fine. But to actually pay money for barely legible ‘words’ or to advertise your initials to the world in an age of identity theft? A fool and their money are soon parted.

Younger, faster, smarter? It's about the number of syllables, not whether the word ends with y!

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 05/02/2026 19:45

Anyone who says that they attended the University of Life or the School of Hard Knocks.

AmazingGraced · 05/02/2026 19:45

People who speak in Estuary English . There seem to be an increasing number presenting programmes now .

I don't think class and intelligence are the same thing at all.

Ladamesansmerci · 05/02/2026 19:46

Voting MAGA. Or especially people who think Trump is some kind of saviour of trafficked children, wtf.
Reformers.
Anti-vaxxers.
Die hard religious people (I don't mean your average UK church goer; I'm thinking more about some of the kinds of people from the bible belt in the US).
'I've done my own research'.

IcantFeelMyFaceNow · 05/02/2026 19:46

Infantile behaviour in adults.

WibbleyPie · 05/02/2026 19:48

People who automatically treat me like I'm stupid, because I work in a restaurant/bar, it's my second job, however even if it wasn't, judging me for earning money is pretty shit really, especially when you're there using the service being delivered 🤷🏼‍♀️.

People who don't train or pick up after their dogs.

People who drive aggressively in built up residential areas or car parks etc, heavy acceleration followed by heavy braking, flinging around corners etc.

People who drop litter.

I'm sure there's more!

Pigtailsandall · 05/02/2026 19:50

People who are unable to change their minds or opinions even when presented with differing facts. Having a very fixed mindset.

People who are cruel for no reason

ridl14 · 05/02/2026 19:50

People who treat mid sized but still actual roundabouts like mini roundabouts and go round them indicating in the wrong direction and wasting my time

Makingadecision · 05/02/2026 19:51

Conspiracy theorists

BitOutOfPractice · 05/02/2026 19:52

HonoraBridge · 05/02/2026 18:48

People who;

  • get information from the TV/MSM
  • are fully jabbed
  • believe there is real democracy in the UK
  • think that the Labour Party cares about working people
  • believe in the climate change scam and net zero
  • declare their pronouns
  • believe that women can become men and vice versa
  • think that drag queen story time for children is all innocent and lovely
  • think that Biden and Obama were great presidents and that Harris would have been super

The lists goes on and on. You get the idea.

This person.

JJkate · 05/02/2026 19:53

PhantomG · 05/02/2026 17:42

The recent trend of leaving words out of a sentence, e.g. "I'm going gym"

You're going to the gym (FFS...)

@PhantomG glottal stop.

AmazingGraced · 05/02/2026 19:53

Nasty or spiteful people. People who put others down.

AnAudacityofinlaws · 05/02/2026 19:56

People who respond to any local FB group post about planning or development matters, contentious or not, with comments about “brown envelopes” and “backhanders” to councillors and planning officers.

Darls3000 · 05/02/2026 19:56

Anti vaxxers.
Disney Adults.
Those who start sentences with I’m not being racist/homophobic/bitchy but…….
big confession - those who have to always be in company and can’t do alone time for even and hour. Like toddlers always wanting be entertained. I think it makes me think they’re not terribly bright and can’t either chill for a bit or give others a break. I always think something’s missing there.

AmazingGraced · 05/02/2026 19:58

I don't think class and intelligence are the same thing at all.

True. Forget that one.

Purplebunnie · 05/02/2026 19:58

People who say 24/7. I just hate it. It's not hard to say 24 hours a day, it's just one extra syllable

Anyone who takes recreational drugs

HotChocCreamAndMarshmallows · 05/02/2026 20:00

Anyone who voted for Brexit.

Anyone who calls anyone a ‘sheep’.

Anyone who says with faux naivety “I didn’t think anyone tested for covid anymore”.

Anyone who thinks they’re clever on any about post about a crime saying “another doctor or engineer”.

Anyone who says brought when they mean bought.

Antivaxxers.
