Funfairs always make me feel on edge.

As for empty funfairs... 😱

Concrete jungles from the 70's, places where there are not enough women around - I walk my dogs and if i see a man without a dog, and obviously not out hiking (rucksack etc), it makes me nervous.

AmazingGraced · 28/01/2026 19:01

Urban areas with a lot of high rise buildings, concrete and no green spaces.

MrsKeats · 28/01/2026 19:04

Both Berlin and Walsingham in Norfolk gave me the creeps.

Glastonbury - the town. I couldnt leave fast enough. Apologies to any residents, I’m sure it was just me.

No, it’s fairly common to feel strange in Glastonbury, it often comes up on this sort of threads. Glastonbury gave me a terrible headache, lifted as soon as I left, weird.

Whattheduck · 28/01/2026 19:22

Quarries theres a walk a few miles from me that is in a lovely wooded area but there’s a big area of water in the middle that’s fenced off that used to be a quarry.I have tried to walk around there a few times but it really gives me the heebie jeebies and I can’t wait to leave.

The hulls and propellers of ships underwater

Omg yes! I not a huge fan of any large rusty ship in general anyway, but there’s something about the underneath that gives me the collywobbles!

properlyproper · 28/01/2026 19:32

Has anyone ever been to Portsmouth historic dockyard? Some of the rooms at the bottom of the HMS victory are very unnerving and really make you imagine what it was like for people living and working on those ships, creepy!!

MaloryJones · 28/01/2026 19:32

Heights and looking down (Oddly I am fine looking straight across)
The Deep Sea
Deep Space
Swimming underwater with eyes open towards the Sea (its the dark of it I think)
Floatation tanks (though they interest Me immensely, there is something scary about it too imo)

A while ago I was in hospital. I woke up at 3am to find myself in a completely empty ward. Dim lighting, no nurse, no patients, nothing. Completely panicked. By the time a porter heard me screaming and came in, I was having a complete meltdown. Turned out I'd been moved whilst I was asleep. Thankfully I was moved back to a ward with people in it. I've always wondered why they did that. Spooky.

organisedadmin · 28/01/2026 19:40

Farms / houses in the middle of nowhere- I have to home visit people and these ones freak me out, keep expecting Leatherface to appear and hang me on a hook.

I don’t understand how people live in these houses!

organisedadmin · 28/01/2026 19:41

@WiggyClawsThe2nd thats terrifying!

Rubyupbeat · 28/01/2026 19:44

There was one road where I grew up, it has very large victorian houses in it, I always had bad dreams about it, always night time and very threatening. I had these dreams from a very small child. The weird thing is, talking to my Nan, when I was an adult, she said she had the same. Really strange.

Those staircases that go up and up multiple floors.
Like in a tenement, where you can look down right through to the ground floor.
Does anyone get what I mean?

Edited

Very often the gap in the middle is the same size and shape as a coffin, so if necessary, a coffin could easily be lowered from the upper floors to the ground floor.

Yes to the sea and space. Absolutely terrified of them. I can’t even look at the ocean on Google Maps. I have to zoom over it really quickly or I start to panic. And hell no to any kind of imagery or documentary footage of a spacewalk or the shipwrecked Titanic!

applebee33 · 28/01/2026 19:45

Swimming pools when they are empty and have that covering over them. Freaks me out

@WiggyClawsThe2nd thats terrifying!

Not just for me either. I still feel sorry for that poor man who didn't really know how to handle the situation! Not what he was expecting on his peaceful night shift. 🤣

Henry8thHoover · 28/01/2026 16:30

Weirs.
Also the workings of reservoirs, the pipes, channels and the plug hole things.

@Henry8thHoover

Aquamechanophobia!

I have submechanophobia - the fear of manmade machinery submerged in water. Really weirds me out if I just look at photos.

Poppy61 · 28/01/2026 20:22

Empty fair grounds, fenlands and Wisbeach. Very weird vibes in Wisbeach, but felt no weird vibes in Glastonbury.

SeriousFaffing · 28/01/2026 20:22

Nursery buildings that have pictures painted on the front windows. Oddly specific and weird, but it gives me a feeling of dread.

Apparently it unsettles loads of people.

Curious why this might be- what history does it have?

The elevated section of the M5 southbound just north of the Clevedon turning. Nothing will make me go into lane 3.
The Underground Hospital in Jersey.
Stapleton Road in Bristol. The number of men just standing on the street watching you walk by is unnerving.

Yes that bit of the M5 would shrivel my testicles, if I had any!

DH and I have a staple joke about Stapleton Road, because whenever we drove down it at night there would be blokes wearing black just walking out in front of the car without looking, kamikaze style - almost invisible.

TheDandyLion · 28/01/2026 20:33

Weatherspoons. Dizzy carpets, cutlery noises, whiff of fryer oil in the air, no music playing and an energy of dispair.

It looks like it should feel like you're in a pub but they all just feel off.

CreepingCrone · 28/01/2026 20:33

MorphingintoMargo · 28/01/2026 17:07

Lands End. Seriously spooky. I felt myself being drawn to the cliff edge. A sort of sirens calling.

It's known as the Call of the Void! The unwelcome thought about skipping or jumping off a high cliff, bridge, building. Apparently its a normal phenomenon, but it doesn't feel normal!

RaraRachael · 28/01/2026 20:35

The Tay rail bridge. It's so ong and my mother said the bits of wood sticking up (visible from the road bridge) are the remains of the old one that collapsed.

Every time we go over it I keep my eyes shut until OH says we've made it to the other side.
