Funfairs always make me feel on edge.

As for empty funfairs... 😱

Anywhere near pylons. They really freak me out!

2dogsandabudgie · 28/01/2026 16:45

Dark water that you can't see the bottom of so you don't know how deep it is. I went to a shopping centre that was built right by a dock and you could go outside and walk right next to where ships used to be moored. The sea was so dark almost black looking and that made me feel uneasy.

Furlane · 28/01/2026 16:46

Old theatres, large halls, etc that have been taken over by these massive religious groups. There is always a guy dressed in white on a poster outside promising to change your life, rid you of satan and your life savings, etc. It gives me the creeps to think about what actually goes on in there.

dailyconniptions · 28/01/2026 16:48

Empty swimming pools are just so scary!

Drongit · 28/01/2026 16:49

Wroxham in Norfolk. Every shop is Roys of Wroxham.

Letsnotargue · 28/01/2026 16:49

I 100% agree with the ship hulls and propellers, and the reservoir stuff. I love the sea and spend lots of time in and on it scuba diving. Even the underside of the boat I came from is scary. And when you go around the corner and unexpectedly find a jetty 😨

Strangely I’m ok with shipwrecks in person, but they’re thought of them freak
me out.

It’s called submechanophobia - the fear of big man made things underwater. I assume that it bothers lots of people if they’ve bothered to come up with a name for it!

BiggyJ · 28/01/2026 16:50

Agree with @DogsandFlowers re swimming pools at night, or any large expanse of deep water. Feels so sinister!
I have a vague recollection of a something I watched years (40 odd!) ago, every now and then I try to google it but never been successful.
It's set in a Victorian (or period setting anyway) swimming pool and there was a murder/murders.
That is literally the only thing I can remember! But it must be from the 80s.
Ring a bell with anyone?

Glastonbury - the town. I couldnt leave fast enough. Apologies to any residents, I’m sure it was just me.

2dogsandabudgie · 28/01/2026 16:53

Places with waxwork figures. I don't mind Madame Tussauds but if I go to historical buildings where they have scenes of what life was like in the 1800s the waxwork figures give me the creeps and I think I would never be able to work there.

Lorrymum · 28/01/2026 16:53

Graveyards! I walk past one everyday, no burials have taken place for at least a hundred years but I still find it unnerving.

HoobleDooble · 28/01/2026 16:58

Anything to do with trains below the level of the platform. I once had to drive past one on a trailer on the dual carriageway and nearly pooed myself!

BiggyJ · 28/01/2026 16:58

Strangely enough I don't mind graveyards.
The college I went to was opposite a graveyard, and I used to walk past one to take DC1 to playgroup.

I agree we often hike i the lakes so arrive in time for dawn I hate driving along the roads next to lakes.
Recently we went to Glencoe and drove next to Loch Lomond in the dark, the water looked like a black mirror it was so calm and eerie.

ninjaassassin · 28/01/2026 17:00

I used to work in some offices that were down a long dark country lane with an abandoned psych ward on the right hand side as you approached it on the drive. There were signs saying "keep out" and you could literally see into the building and the corridors with abandoned hospital beds and indeterminate scrawling on the walls. It was creepy AF at night when you had to pass it in total darkness and like something out of a horror film. I always wondered why they didnt just demolish it, it had such a feeling of foreboding and horror.

Weird shops. Where I live there are random weird shops that sell things like old doll's heads which stare out at you creepily from the shop window and battered old teddy bears that look they've witnessed various murders from the 1900s in their lifetimes.

Random staircases in the woods. Google this on reddit- creepy AF

MorphingintoMargo · 28/01/2026 17:07

Lands End. Seriously spooky. I felt myself being drawn to the cliff edge. A sort of sirens calling.

UnhappyHobbit · 28/01/2026 17:13

Stickytoffeetartt · 28/01/2026 16:22

Schools after dark (for parent evenings etc) Rumours say that my old school was haunted. I was convinced that I saw some creepy goings on there with my own eyes so it's probably psychological.

Edited

Yes I used to hate parents evenings for that reason. Also, I’d hate a swimming pool or water park at night. What do those slides do at night!? Freaky.

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 28/01/2026 17:15

Railways tunnels. Just seeing a picture of a portal gives me the heeby newbies. But no problem if I'm on the train. I know, weird.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 28/01/2026 17:19

The Fens or very flat places with no trees. I'm not sure why I feel so creeped out but I can't stand them. Maybe it's because the horizon is so far away.

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 28/01/2026 17:23

Anywhere that’s flat, it ignites primal fear in me and I can’t relax.

oohyoudevilyou · 28/01/2026 17:24

Farmyards - they're always deserted and have loads of rusty old machinery lying around

JohnTheRevelator · 28/01/2026 17:28

Agree that empty funfairs are decidedly creepy! Also abandoned holiday parks. I can remember looking online at a holiday camp in Great Yarmouth that I went to years ago with my family, when I was about 9 or 10 (must have been around 1972/73). It had closed down years before but was all still standing and even looking at photos of it made me feel creeped out!

BiggyJ · 28/01/2026 17:34

We drove past a couple of abandoned water parks and a nightclub in Majorca! But it was daytime - luckily, so I wasn't freaked out...

The elevated section of the M5 southbound just north of the Clevedon turning. Nothing will make me go into lane 3.
The Underground Hospital in Jersey.
Stapleton Road in Bristol. The number of men just standing on the street watching you walk by is unnerving.

Wolverine23 · 28/01/2026 17:34

Hellfire caves in West Wycombe, creepy but beautiful area at the same time.

Madamblueshoes · 28/01/2026 17:34

Weirdly it's churches for me. I can't be in one alone with the door closed. I just feel so ... scared!!
